I previously profiled this new still-in-the-works documentary film from Chicago-based Kartemquin Films ("Hoop Dreams," "The Interrupters," "The Trials of Muhammad Ali"), titled "'63 Boycott," two years ago; they still need your help to complete it. Directed by Gordon Quinn ("A Good Man" documentary on choreographer Bill T. Jones), the film is about the 1963 Chicago school boycott, called “Freedom Day,” during which some 200,000 people, mostly school students, protested and marched over the school system's racist segregationist policies by then Cps Superintendent Benjamin Willis. The film...

You'd think that there would have already been a documentary about the amazing life and career of Maya Angelou. But surprisingly there hasn’t been one. That is until now...Chicago based filmmaker Bob Hercules - who previously directed documentaries about the controversial Catholic priest and community activist Father Michael Pfleger (Radical Disciple), the Bill T Jones documentary, A Good Man, and Perseverance: The Story of Dr. Billy Taylor - through his production company Media Process Group, is now well into making the first feature length film documentary about Dr. Angelou, to be called Maya Angelou: The People’s Poet.In addition, the film has just received two major...

Back in January, I wrote about Kartemquin Films’ new documentary in production, directed by Gordon Quinn, about the 1963 Chicago school boycott during which some 200,000 people, mostly school students, protested and marched over the school system's racist segregationist policies by then Cps Superintendent Benjamin Willis. Could you imagine something like that happening today? A different time, a different mindset. Now it's been announced that on Tuesday October 22, the Chicago based documentary film production company, with many films to their credit, including Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters, A Good Man and No Crossover: The Trails of Allen Iverson, is going to have a special...

Kartemquin Films, the Chicago based documentary film production company, with many films to their credits, including Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters, A Good Man (about choreographer Bill T. Jones) and No Crossover: The Trails of Allen Iverson, is currently working on their latest project about the 1963 Chicago Public School Boycott. 50 years ago on October 1963, over 200,000 people, mostly school students, protested and marched over the school system's racist segregationist policies by then Cps Superintendent Benjamin Willis. So naturally, Kartemquin is currently looking for anyone anywhere who was invloved in the boycott, in any capacity, whether as a student...

On TV this Friday: Chuck battles his Bff’s frosted tips, Nikita smells a (pretty) rat, Dean Winchester takes on a new partner, and more. As a supplement to TVLine’s original feature stories and reporting, here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

A Good Man
Directed by: Bob Hercules, Gordon Quinn
Cast: Bill T. Jones
Running Time: 1 hr 25 mins
Rating: Nr
Release Date: September 23, 2011 (Chicago)
Plot: A documentary that dives into the process of revered choreographer Bill T. Jones as he tries to make a piece that will forever change the way people think about Abraham Lincoln.
Who’S It For? Those who are particularly interested in dance-theater will likely enjoy the chance to dive deep into one of the style’s most popular minds. Even those with little experience or knowledge of dance-theater will at least be able to get something out of this unique character study.
Overall
Featuring remarkable footage of his earlier performances and the free-reign to let the man constantly speak for himself, A Good Man creates a very thorough picture of Bill T. Jones, the creator. Bill T. Jones the man, not as much.

Hollywoodnews.com: Los Angeles has Hollywood. Durham, N.C. has Realitywood.
Every spring, Durham plays host to the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, a four-day binge of the industries top documentary filmmakers who bring anticipated titles to a reality-craving audience.
This year’s lineup boasts the world premieres of Nancy Buirski’s “The Loving Story” and “A Good Man,” by Bob Hercules and Gordon Quinn. Full Frame also will host the U.S. premiere of “Guilty Pleasures,” the festival’s opening night film about romance novels and the folks who’ve grown obsessed by their flowery prose.
I, myself, am more excited about a few festival favorites that played Sundance or SXSW that I’ve yet to catch up with, from “Page One: Inside the New York Times” to “Buck” and “Being Elmo.” In addition, award-winning documentary filmmakers Annie Sundberg and Ricki Stern are receiving this year’s Career Award,...

A Full Frame Film Festival selection for 2011, A Good Man follows acclaimed director/choreographer Bill T. Jones (Fela!, most recently, and is currently working on a Broadway musical based on Super Fly) as he and his company develop their most ambitious work – an original dance-theater piece in honor of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial.
The film follows them through two tumultuous years, capturing every raw moment of struggle and exhilaration, as Jones struggles to communicate his vision to his dancers and collaborators, as the team comes face to face with America’s unresolved contradictions about race, equality and the legacy of its 16th President.
Premiering on the heels of Jones’s Tony Award for Fela! and 2010 Kennedy Center Honor, A Good Man is a window into the creative process of an enduring, provocative artist.
The film, funded partly via Itvs, will also be a 2011 PBS American Masters selection.
