- Padmé visits her old mentor Mina Bonteri, who has chosen the side of the Separatists but is urging for peace talks. But the Banking Clan and several corrupt senators conspire against this initiative.
- The Senate is debating a bill to de-regulate banks and open new lines of credit to secure funding for additional Clone Troopers. The senators focus mainly on Republic monetary and fiscal policy, when Padmé Amidala interrupts and reminds everyone to focus on why they are fighting the war in the first place, arguing that negotiation would be a better policy. Ahsoka Tano, who was observing the Senate, agrees with Padmé, which prompts Anakin Skywalker to encourage Padmé to teach Ahsoka about politics. Padmé accepts, and Ahsoka gives her the idea of sneaking past security on a civilian transport to visit Raxus (the capital of the Confederacy of Independent Systems) and meet with Separatist senator Mina Bonteri, who was Padmé's mentor prior to her service as Queen of Naboo. Meanwhile, the Republic senators from the Trade Federation, Techno Union, and Banking Clan request Count Dooku's help in passing the bill. They come up with a plan to attack Coruscant, which has a false sense of security.
Padmé and Ahsoka travel to Raxus, where Padmé and Mina discuss politics while Ahsoka talks with Mina's son Lux Bonteri. Ahsoka learns how everyone allied with the Separatists views the Jedi as bad, and vice versa, but that the two sides have more in common than they think; this leads to Ahsoka and Lux becoming close friends. Later, at the Separatist Parliament, Mina proposes the opening of peace negotiations with the Republic, which is agreed to by the Parliament. Meanwhile, on Coruscant, General Grievous prepares a squad of droids for the attack on the power generators which power the Senate building.
After the Separatists' requests for peace are received, Padmé strongly advocates for accepting them, and her remarks are received well by the Senate. As the Senate is voting, Grievous's droids (disguised as cleaning droids) break into the generator, kill all of the workers, and then explode, destroying the generator. This prompts the Senate to reconsider the motion for peace, which ends up failing. Padmé then returns Ahsoka to Anakin, who scolds Ahsoka for sneaking onto Raxus. Ahsoka then replies by stating that the politics of the war are less clear-cut than she previously thought.
