We've covered quite a few actors and actresses here at TV Fanatic, and while some of them have fallen into the "familiar face in the background" roles, none have snuck up on audiences like Olivia Munn.
One of her first acting gigs was that of "Claw Hostess" in the Steve Carell and Tina Fey comedy Date Night.
Although her part was small, the actress was one of the most memorable experiences of that movie—besides Mark Wahlberg shirtless, that is.
Though she looks like a model, Munn's career has focused solely on the small and big screen and live and scripted appearances.
In many ways, she's like that actor you notice when you rewatch movies from years ago, making you go, "Wait, isn't that what's her name from that thing?"
It's an extremely common occurrence with actors who turn into big names later in their careers. Don't believe me?...

Olivia Munn announced on Instagram that she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 43-year-old actor wrote in a message to fans: “I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey.”
“I wouldn’t have found my cancer for another year – at my next scheduled mammogram – except that my Obgyn, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, decided to calculate my Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score. The fact that she did saved my life,” Munn added in a statement. “Dr. Aliabadi looked at factors like my age, familial breast cancer history, and the fact that I had my first child after the age of 30. She discovered my lifetime risk was at 37%. Because of that score I was sent to get an Mri, which led to an ultrasound, which then led to a biopsy. Da’Vine Joy Randolph only broke out in 2019, but she’s already one of the most talented actors in the business.
Born in 1986 to a Philadelphia family, Randolph has her roots in the theater; at Temple University, she initially studied classical vocal performance and opera, switching her major to musical theater. After graduation, she attended the Yale School of Drama, graduating in 2011 with a Master’s. Immediately out of school, she was cast in the Broadway musical adaptation of “Ghost: The Musical,” and her performance as medium Oda Mae Brown netted her a Tony Award nomination.
From there, Randolph became a regular face on TV and film, frequently playing bit roles in films and shows like “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “Office Christmas Party,” “This Is Us,” “Veep,” “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” and “Empire.” A main part in the short-lived 2014 series “Selfie” aside, none of these parts were particularly meaty.

Social media users recently marveled that last month marked 20 years since three modern Christmas favorites — New Line’s Elf, Universal’s Love Actually and Miramax’s Bad Santa — all hit theaters within weeks of each other. Two decades later, you don’t need to feel like a cotton-headed ninny-muggins if you’re among those wondering why studios don’t release holiday theatrical offerings in the way they once did.
Although most Christmas films don’t tend to follow the path of, say, 1990’s Home Alone, which topped the domestic box office for a whopping 12 straight weeks, they had typically been a staple of the release calendar, with a handful of titles hitting theaters annually, as recently as the late 2010s. That list includes such 2016 theatrical offerings as Almost Christmas, Bad Santa 2, Office Christmas Party and Why Him?, followed by 2017’s Daddy’s Home 2, A Bad Moms Christmas and animated...

With Christmas just one week (and one day) away, we wanted to ask you, the people, what your favorite Christmas Movie is? It doesn’t have to be the movie you think is the best, just the one that you eagerly anticipate watching every year. Is it the timeless tale of an angel getting its wings in It’s A Wonderful Life? or perhaps the under-appreciated (and genuinely hilarious) R rated The Night Before is how you kick off your holiday season?
Do you look forward to seeing Jack Skellington discover the true meaning of Christmas in the Christmas Movie Classic The Nightmare Before Christmas or watching Kevin McCallister take down the Wet/ Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 1&2 or perhaps seeing Clark W. It seems streaming services have realised in the last few years that a good Christmas film is worth putting some money behind. Amazon Prime have got in experienced director Reginald Hudlin, and leading (and legendary) actor Eddie Murphy to headline Candy Cane Lane.

Oh Marvel Cinematic Universe, how times have changed. In just four years you’ve seen your movies open to over $357 million (Avengers: Endgame) to this weekend where The Marvels became your lowest opening ever with just $47 million, about $8 million shy of where we predicted it on Thursday. So what went wrong? First, you seem to have over-saturated your brand. Going to the movies to see these big tent pole films was always an enjoyable experience, but when you branched out into the Disney+ shows that people had to keep up with, it watered down those theatrical experiences. Would I truly enjoy The Marvels if I never saw an episode of Ms. Marvel? That seems to be the big problem as Ms. Marvel is currently the lowest watched Marvel show on Disney+ with just 780,000 viewers compared to something like She-Hulk which drew 1.5 million viewers or Loki which has pulled 2.5 million viewers...

With the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the MCU has been in a bit of a downward spiral in terms of their creative output. Stories that once felt fresh and were heralded for their connectivity, have now fallen flat and become mundane. It appears that decline hit a head this weekend as The Marvels is pacing to become the lowest opening ever for an MCU film with a take between $47-$52 million (per Deadline), beating out the previous lowest: $55.4 million earned by the Edward Norton fronted The Incredible Hulk.
So where did this one go wrong? Many will blame the actors strike for its failure with the actors unable to promote their film until just last night when Brie Larson appeared on The Tonight Show. That argument doesn’t hold much weight as films such as Five Nights at Freddy’s have been able to overcome the lack of promotion.

The cast of Friends used collective bargaining to level out their salaries. As an ensemble cast, they wanted to be treated as equals as their wages grew from $22K per episode to $1M. Each cast member of Friends earned around $90 million in base salary alone from the show before the addition of any backend bonuses and ongoing royalties from syndication, racking each actor up an impressive net worth. ‘7 Days,’ Written and Directed by a Doctor, Is a Touching Pandemic Rom-Com That Actually Shows Covid
Most movies about the pandemic have not directly addressed the actual illness of Covid-19, but most movies aren’t written and directed by real-life doctors. Over the last two years, independent filmmakers have risen to the challenges presented by smaller crews and daily testing, producing inventive takes on remote learning like “Language Lessons,” or provocative livestream thrillers like “Deadstream” and “Dashcam.”
But few have managed to show a character suffering from the effects of Covid, much less in a romantic comedy. Shot in a single location with a two-person cast and set during the first week of the pandemic, “7 Days” is a snappy and scrappy rom-com that doesn’t shy away from the human cost of Covid.
That’s entirely due to director and co-writer Roshan Sethi, who moonlights as an oncologist at one of the country’s top hospitals for nine weeks out of the year.

The first week of December saw a lot of people watching holiday films at home. Makes sense; ’tis the season, even in this dreadful year. There’s also little in the way of new titles as competition — and the one major film to debut, timed to the awards season, failed to gain traction.
“Mank,” David Fincher’s Netflix biopic of screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz, is considered a leading Oscar contender but debuted to very little initial response. Available on Friday, it showed up at #10 Saturday (the first day it could chart), and has not reappeared since. The black-and-white film starring Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried didn’t gain the attention of other high-profile originals like “Da 5 Bloods,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and “Hillbilly Elegy,” all of which debuted at first or second. Bumping “Mank” from 10th place was the 2000 Adam Sandler comedy “Little Nicky.”

Exclusive: Sam Richardson is about to feel the effects of a full moon. The Veep alum is set to star in the forthcoming horror-comedy Werewolves Within directed by Josh Ruben. The project will be based on the virtual reality video game by Ubisoft and adapted by screenwriter and bestselling author Mishna Wolff.
Similar to the “Assassins” party game, the Werewolves Within fantasy video game is set in a fictitious medieval town where a werewolf is attacking the townspeople. In a Mafia-style format, the players of the game must guess who among them is the werewolf in disguise.
Werewolves Within is being produced by Jason Altman, Margaret Boykin, Andrew Lieberman for Ubisoft Film & Television; Matt Miller, Natalie Metzger, and Benjamin Wiessner for Vanishing Angle; and Sam Richardson. The project originated from Ubisoft Film & Television’s inaugural Women’s Film and Television Fellowship where Wolff secured a script deal for her Werewolves Within film pitch.

‘Tis the season to be jolly… and what better way to start things off with a smile than to point out some truly unattractive holiday wardrobe choices? Here are a handful of the ugliest Christmas sweater to be found on TV and in films.
“Office Christmas Party” (2016): Kate McKinnon’s human resources rep in this ensemble comedy should have been ticketed by the fashion police.
“How I Met Your Mother”: Being a moose’s caboose to Marhsall’s front end was certainly a proof of Lily’s love.
“Hot in Cleveland”: Betty White’s Elka would never let an opportunity pass to tease her besties.
“Bridget Jones’ Diary” (2001): Bridget thought Mark Darcy might be Mr. Right… and then she saw this sweater.
“Real Housewives of Orange County”: Danielle hosted an “Ugly Sweater” party, all in the name of charity. And, no, these outfits are not couture,...

Showtime has picked up to pilot Big Deal, a half-hour single-camera comedy co-created by and starring Emmy-nominated Saturday Night Live alumna Vanessa Bayer. The Big Sick helmer Michael Showalter will direct the pilot for the project, from Annapurna TV, which had been in development at Showtime for a year.
Emmy-winning former Inside Amy Schumer head writer Jessi Klein serves as showrunner on Big Deal, which Bayer co-created with former SNL writer Jeremy Beiler.
Big Deal is a grounded comedy in which a woman (Bayer) overcomes childhood leukemia to achieve her lifelong dream of landing a job as a QVC host.
Bayer’s character is inspired by the comedy actress’ own personal story as a survivor of childhood leukemia, which she was diagnosed with in her freshman year of high school.
