Sky has released the official trailer and announced the UK broadcast date of ‘Domina’ Season II with new episodes dropping weekly as double bills on Sky Atlantic and Now from 13th September 2023.
The historical drama series takes place during one of the most provocative and turbulent periods in Roman history. The series follows the extraordinary rise of Gaius Octavius, who became the first Emperor of Rome as Caesar Augustus, and his third wife, Livia Drusilla.
‘Domina’ chronicles the struggle for control of the Roman Empire, and of Rome’s Imperial Family, from a rare female perspective. In its first season, Livia Drusilla (Kasia Smutniak), the golden girl of the prominent Claudii family, returned to Rome after 10 years in exile, determined to regain everything that was stolen from her. When she married Gaius – Caesar Augustus (Matthew McNulty) – she was seated at the top of a fractious empire and a dysfunctional dynasty.

Debut feature Silent Roar, ‘a teenage tale of surfing, sex and hellfire’ takes the gala slot, marking a remarkable turnaround for the festival which appeared doomed to closure last October
The Edinburgh international film festival has announced the opening film for its 2023 edition, months after the shock news that the long-running event’s existence was in doubt after its organisers, Centre for the Moving Image (Cmi), shut down abruptly in October and called in administrators.
The festival’s high-profile opening gala slot has been handed to Silent Roar, the debut feature from director Johnny Barrington, produced by The Inbetweeners Movie’s Christopher Young. Described by the festival as “a teenage tale of surfing, sex and hellfire”, Silent Roar was filmed on the remote community of Uig, on Lewis in Scotland’s Western Isles and stars Louis McCartney and Ella Lily Hyland.

Earl Cave and Monica Dolan are a delight in this charming comedy directed by The Inbetweeners’ Simon Bird
Here’s a movie that tells us that the days of summer, like the boys of summer in Don Henley’s song, are going to get outlived by the love they inspire. It’s what happens in this thoroughly sweet-natured, charming and unassuming British film, adapted by screenwriter Lisa Owens from the 2012 graphic novel by Joff Winterhart, with a creamy soundtrack by Belle and Sebastian. Simon Bird (best known for playing Will in TV’s The Inbetweeners) makes his directorial debut.
Earl Cave and Monica Dolan play metalhead teenager Daniel Bagnold and his gentle, sad, divorced mum, Sue Bagnold, failing to get on with each other over an interminable summer in the epically boring British suburbs. Daniel is crucified with disappointment when a summer holiday with his dad in Florida is cancelled...

When you’ve had a big hit, it’s often all anybody wants from you. To artists, that level of success can feel like a trap. Fearful that the breadth of their creative genius may go unacknowledged, a singer might spend years trying to shake off a number one single, turning their back on requests for the old stuff and attempting to captivate fans with their Fresh New Sound. In such instances, results vary.
A saner alternative is to embrace what made that success happen, and try to repeat it. That’s what The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have done in new BBC sitcom The First Team. Bar the cast, they’ve got the old band back together – the same writer-directors uniting with the same script editor and executive producer under the same comedy controller. Instead of breaking the mould and wasting energy simply to demonstrate versatility,...

Two magpies are fighting to the death outside Damon Beesley’s window. The violence is distracting him from the task in hand. “It’s just too much to ignore,” he tells Den of Geek, breaking off from an anecdote about the filming of new BBC football sitcom The First Team.
“Very Partridge that, by the way,” says his writing partner Iain Morris. “Super Partridge.”
Joining us on the call from La, Morris doesn’t have to contend with magpies; he’s dealing with a more existential struggle. The idea for The First Team arrived in 2009. “A decade ago – oh God, I’m so old.” Back then, the pair were pondering their next move after the second season of The Inbetweeners, the E4 schoolboy comedy that grew into a massive hit and two successful movies.
Beesley and Morris had found a groove, they realised, “writing about male insecurity. That’s what...

The Inbetweeners was a revelation, on the small screen and the big one, and even now, to this very day, every time we walk past a bus stop we think ‘w***ers’. We can’t help (sorry commuters!) Needles to say we’ve been patiently anticipating what creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley would conjure up next, and finally, coming to BBC2 this week, we have The First Team.
We had the pleasure of only speaking to the two writers/directors but also to the three leading cast-members, Shaquille Ali-Yebuah, Jack McMullen and Jake Short. The series, which is set behind the scenes at a fictional football club, we watch on as these promising youngsters navigate their way around the dressing room, and how they balance being famous with, you know, wiping your arse. We discuss the character with the three young lads, who all impress heavily in the show.

If you were anywhere in or around the United Kingdom during the last stretch of the noughties–or anywhere else with easy access to Channel 4’s streaming platform, for that matter–chances are you witnessed the pandemonium stirred up by a cult TV comedy series, The Inbetweeners. From the minds of creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris came a show that chronicled the banter, mess, joys, and sorrows of four high school students stranded in an unidentified stretch of British suburbia–an endlessly watchable, endlessly quotable sitcom that later birthed two spinoff features and crystallized the show’s acting quartet as household names.

James Corden and co bring nothing to the carrot patch in this crass take on the Beatrix Potter classic
Beatrix Potter’s children’s books may have been out of copyright since 2014, but that’s no excuse for this manure-scented take on her best-known tale. Using a crass mix of CGI and live action, this version bastardises her trickster bunny, reimagining him as a smirking “young rabbit in a blue coat, with no pants”.
Peter (James Corden) seems to take his cues from The Inbetweeners Movie, shoving a carrot into Old Mr McGregor’s bum and staging a vegetable garden heist set to Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup’s We No Speak Americano.

Even by ladling on the gore a mansion-set horror comedy struggles to cover up its failings
A pair of lairy lads looking to pull get more than they bargained for when gorgeous sisters Kitty (Kelly Wenham) and Lulu (Georgia Groome) offer to take them home to their family mansion. Crude, unsophisticated but enthusiastically bloody, this British comedy horror feels a bit like The Inbetweeners Movie with multiple stab wounds and cranial trauma.

Dancing in movies is nothing new, since the early days of cinema dancing has been a great way to perform a scene. However, most of these routines, as you’d expect, are in musicals. Yet there are a few non-musical films that throw in the odd surprising dance scene to great effect. Here are 6 unexpected yet awesome dance scenes.
6. Club Cringe – The Inbetweeners Movie (2011)
For some dancing isn’t easy, but in this case these guys make it look almost impossible. With the juxtaposition of Neil (Blake Harrison) flailing his limbs with some sort of rhythm next to Simon (Joe Thomas) jittering nervously and Will (Simon Bird) galloping his way to sheer embarrassment, this one hits the list for cringe factor alone. The final stage in this act results in Simon and Will choosing to copy Neil and if you ever think that Neil is the one to follow, you’re in the shit.

Last week we got to hear from feature-film newcomer Isabela Moner on her role as Izabella in the latest movie in the Transformers franchise and today it’s the turn of fellow Brit Laura Haddock. Laura has previously appeared in numerous TV shows including The Level, Da Vinci’s Demons and Luther on stage and had parts in The Inbetweeners movie and Guardians of the Galaxy. By her own admission the level has increased somewhat as she takes on the role of Oxford university professor Vivian Wembley in the Michael Bay film.
During the preview footage we got to see (see our full explanation video below), we got to see the introduction of Haddock’s character as she’s thrown out of an Autobot and brought to see Anthony Hopkins at his mansion alongside Mark Wahlberg. We also found out what it’s like to be introduced in such a physical manor,...

Here’s a shiny nice new poster for Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight. which suggested that we need to re-think our heroes as Optimus Prime looks mean and menacing with his giant sword. The poster follows the first full trailer that was released for the movie earlier this week.
Michael Bay helms this fifth film which sees Mark Wahlberg returns as Cade Yeager alongside acting royalty Sir Anthony Hopkins who appears in this rather lovely video and The Inbetweeners Movie star and fellow Brit Laura Haddock. Stanley Tucci joins them with John Goodman, and Sir Anthony Hopkins. We also see the return of Josh Duhamel and fan favourite John Turturro as Agent Simmons.
Check out the poster below which you can click to enlarge.

Film London, global film streaming platform We Are Colony and Edge Hill University have announced the latest phase of an innovative research project which explores ways to capitalize on digital film releases, empower filmmakers and satisfy audiences’ appetite for exclusive content. Don't you wish you were British so you could partake in this project with your film?
Made possible by the Digital R&D fund for the Arts, the project examines the rapidly-evolving world of video on demand, and how the We Are Colony platform can engage fans who are keen to unlock exciting additional content such as deleted scenes, interviews, scripts and trailers. The seven titles selected for the year-long research project are the critically-acclaimed "Appropriate Behavior," Benedict Cumberbatch road movie "Third Star," feted Alternative Miss World documentary "The British Guide To Showing Off," Agyness Deyn’s breakout performance in "Electricity," uncompromising British drama "We Are Monster," high-concept thriller "Containment," and award-winning short film "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World."
Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London and the British Film Commission , said: “Film London exists to help connect ideas, finance and talent at every stage of the filmmaking process, so a project which helps our industry capitalize on new technologies while exploring innovative ways to engage audiences is a perfect fit for us. By bringing together industry nous, entrepreneurial instincts and academic excellence this partnership is proving to be extremely exciting, and I’m looking forward to see how it develops and benefits the seven films we have selected.”
Sarah Tierney, founder of We Are Colony, comments: “We are pleased to be working with a group of forward-thinking and innovative producers, distributors and sales agents, keen to interrogate the potential of new digital models to engage an audience early and through additional content. In addition, with content being delivered to registered account holders in over 100 countries, We Are Colony is looking forward to sharing data from the beta launch, and the results of a significant user survey looking at viewing behaviors and attitudes to content.”
Working with a range of budgets and varying international appeal, the slate aims to reflect the reality of independent production in the UK. As Leeshon Alexander, writer, producer and star of "We Are Monster," comments: “'We Are Monster' is a truly independent film. As such, we feel it’s not only important to be a part of such a study, but a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a progressive screen agency such as Film London and a sector innovator such as We Are Colony.”
Cecilia Frugiuele of Parkville Pictures, producer of "Appropriate Behavior" and short film "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World" also comments: “The international reach of the platform is also a way for producers and Sales Agents to be in control of their film’s destiny offering new ways to exploit a title without a traditional distributor.”
Core to We Are Colony’s unique place in the VOD market is the release of ‘special edition bundles,' releasing quality films with a range of (often exclusive) additional and behind-the-scenes content. Franki Goodwin of Western Edge Pictures, who produced "Third Star," adds: “For us, the opportunity to partner with We Are Colony to bring additional content to our fans, and in turn to support a fantastic new VOD platform, was a no-brainer. This is a huge opportunity for film makers to offer their audiences more than just a movie.”
In addition, the platform works hands-on with licensors in a marketing role, delivering content and creative, plus organic and paid marketing. Cecilia Frugiuele states: “We Are Colony is an empowering tool for filmmakers. It encourages them to think of audience engagement earlier in production, helping them shape their future distribution strategy.”
Lastly, as part of the research phase, the We Are Colony platform will be trialing new windows, including an innovative pre-sale model where users pay early in exchange for instant fulfillment on extra content, ahead of general release. One title currently in pre-sales in the UK is Containment, and producer Christine Hartland states: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with We Are Colony for the release of 'Containment.' We will be able to offer audiences a deeper experience of the film and a chance to engage in its world in innovative ways. As independent filmmakers we’re very aware of the crowded marketplace for indie British thrillers, and are excited about the possibilities of offering our audience more than just a conventional cinema experience. By connecting with audiences early and building their investment in the film, we intend to build a fanbase even ahead of release”.
The report, lead by Prof. Philip Drake of Edge Hill University and researcher Michael Franklin, co-authored by the project partners, is due to release in Q4 2015.
About the seven films selected for the project:
"Appropriate Behavior," the sexually-frank romantic comedy written, directed and starring Desiree Akhavan ("Girls"), produced by Cecilia Frugiuele, nominated in the Independent Spirit Awards 2014. The film was licensed from Peccadillo Pictures (UK), Gravitas Ventures (North America) and Transmission Films (Australia and New Zealand).
"The British Guide To Showing Off," the critically-acclaimed documentary which pays homage to the eccentric universe of the Alternative Miss World Show, directed by Jes Benstock and produced by Dorigen Hammond.
"Third Star," the critically-acclaimed British road movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch ("The Imitation Game," "Sherlock"), Tom Burke ( The Musketeers"), Jj Feild ("Captain America"), Adam Robertson and Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey"), re-released internationally through the We Are Colony platform. The film was licensed from Independent Film Sales.
"Electricity," the startling 'Alice in Wonderland' tale with a breakout performance by Agyness Deyn, directed by Bryn Higgins and produced by Clare Duggan. Licensed from Soda Pictures (UK).
"We Are Monster," the critically-acclaimed, uncompromising British drama written, produced and starring Leeshon Alexander, directed by Antony Petrou, with producers including Noel Clarke ("Adulthood, Kidulthood"). The film was licensed from Metrodome Distribution (UK).
"Containment," the high-concept British thriller with an ensemble cast including Lee Ross ("The English Patient," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") and Louise Brealey ("Sherlock"), directed by Neil Mcenery-West and produced by Christine Hartland, Casey Herbert and Pete Smyth. The film was licensed by Vision Films (international sales).
And "Some Candid Observations on the Eve of the End of the World," the award-winning short film starring Theo Barklem-Biggs ("KIngsman: The Secret Service," "The Inbetweeners Movie") and Adrian Scarborough ("The King’s Speech," "Les Misérables").

Very British Problems, the 1 million follower-plus @soverybritish Twitter feed turned best-selling book of Britons' daily woes, hits our small screens tonight (August 13).
Starring Jonathan Ross, James Corden and a variety of famous funny Brits moaning creatively in a Grumpy Old Men stylee, the Channel 4 series looks to bottle the retweet phenomenon for a non-social audience.
I meet its London-based creator Rob Temple to find out how that's going to work and, to be honest, exactly how it all got this far. Over a beer, not an under-heated cup of tea ("I don't even like tea," laughs Temple), I ask how the idea started. "Well, it started it in 2012, cause you told me to."
Now, this is sort of true. Full disclosure: I used to work with Rob. And I did implore him to start a Twitter feed, as despite having never seen it himself, his dry, pithy humour was clearly a good fit.

Elliot Hegarty is directing, with Whitehall and Freddy Syborn penning the script. Here's the first trailer...
The Bad Education Movie arrives on Friday August 21st.

If you like this crude teen comedy, you’ll love this bleak holocaust drama! Netflix is suggesting The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas to Inbetweeners fans – so what’s the oddest suggestion you’ve had online?
Given the sheer exhaustive quantity of titles available to watch on Netflix, a helping hand with what to watch is a welcome innovation. One would assume, with the size and capabilities of the platform growing by the week, that any recommendation algorithm would be a slick, reliable tool.
But this week has shown that might not be so true. According to The Mirror, two teenagers were looking for a film to watch in the vein of gross-out teen comedy The Inbetweeners Movie. Netflix’s suggestion? Harrowing holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

Producer Brian Grazer admits that Cowboys & Aliens wasn't one of his finest projects. "I don't get this at all", he recalls saying...
Jon Favreau's 2011 blockbuster Cowboys & Aliens came hot on the heels of his previous film, Iron Man 2, and picked up a less-than-expected box office take of just over $170m worldwide (its release in the UK clashed with that of The Inbetweeners Movie, which proved to be a gigantic box office hit). It's continued to generate cash on home formats of course, but even so, we don't know too many people who put it near their favourite films of 2011 list.
Brian Grazer certainly didn't. And he produced it.
At the Aspen Ideas Festival over the weekend, Grazer admitted he wasn't really that fond of the film. When asked if there were projects he'd regretted. "I agreed to be part of a movie called Cowboys & Aliens", he recalled. "I don't like cowboys,...

Recently, the so-called demise of the romantic comedy has been well-documented. Aside from a few outliers and indie gems, it’s been a long time since there was a big romantic comedy hit of the kind that were commonplace in the 1990s and early 00s, and even longer since there was one that could sit with “When Harry Met Sally,” “Four Weddings And A Funeral” and the other films at the top of the genre. Thank god then for “Man Up." The film, directed by “The Inbetweeners Movie” helmer Ben Palmer, stars Lake Bell as Nancy, thirtysomething and single, who is mistaken for the blind date of fortysomething divorcé Jack (Simon Pegg), and decides to roll with it, leading to an evening of drunkenness, dancing and possibly more. As our review from Tribeca revealed, it’s one of the best films of its kind in years, funny, sweet and refreshing,...

Pegg and Bell share an accidental blind date and then a sometimes combative romance in this romcom from Inbetweeners Movie director Ben Palmer
Related: Simon Pegg: ‘I find it very hard to write for women’
Romcoms and blind dates have much in common: there’s no real telling what’s going to work, and what looks good on paper often turns out to be a disaster. There is nothing particularly promising about this set-up – middle-class 30- to 40-year-old Brits, one of whom is actually American – but where a dozen other Bridget Jones imitators have failed, Simon Pegg and Lake Bell really hit it off. They’re fine partners in quick-witted repartee and goofy dance steps, yet both sympathetically fallible underneath. A blind date is involved: his rebounding divorcee mistakes her frustrated singleton for his rendezvous; she decides to play along, despite not being a high-flying, 24-year-old triathlete. They have a lot in common,...

Cupid's arrow takes a circuitous route before finding its mark in Man Up, a truly rib-tickling rom-com that delivers the heady buzz of a great first date. But it's American actress Lake Bell (doing a fine English accent, here) who looks set to win viewers' hearts, more so than leading man Simon Pegg who generously acts as her 'straight man' - albeit slightly dizzied by the whirlwind of weird that Bell creates around him.
Bell, who also impressed with her 2013 writing/directing debut In a World..., stars as Nancy, vaguely depressed at still being single and incorrigibly goofy at 34 years old. However, judging by the way she tucks into a baguette on a crowded train, simultaneously complaining about her love life, she's not overly self-consciousness either. Sharon Horgan (recently seen in...

Lake Bell proved she's a pro at accents in her directorial debut "In a World...," which won her the Screenwriting Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and made her one of the most promising new filmmakers on the scene. In that winning comedy, Bell played an aspiring voiceover artist struggling to make a name for herself in a male-dominated industry. She's back showing off her impressive vocal range in the Tribeca Film Festival world premiere "Man Up," a romantic comedy in which she's tasked with playing a British lass who thinks she's done with dating until she meets a man (Simon Pegg) who mistakes her for his blind date. The film is directed by Ben Palmer, who made "The Inbetweeners Movie," and written by first-time screenwriter Tess Morris. Indiewire sat down...

Simon Pegg’s new romantic-comedy, Man Up, eschews all the modern dating paraphernalia – Tinder, Happn, etc – and takes the more old-fashioned route to romance: a blind date and a case of mistaken identity. The movie, which pairs him up with the equally winning Lake Bell, has a new poster to share with the world. Click on the image to blow it up at least three times bigger. It's not a poster for ants. Written by Tess Morris and directed by The Inbetweeners Movie's Ben Palmer, Man Up follows Bell’s Nancy, sick of the frustrations of dating and the endless pointless set ups provided by her friends. But in a weird circumstance, she meets divorcee Jack (Pegg), who mistakes her for his blind date. Deciding to take a chance, Nancy goes along with it, and what follows is a chaotic night of drinking, dancing, bowling and what both of...

“Childrens Hospital” star Lake Bell affects a British accent to pose as Simon Pegg’s blind date in the first trailer for “Man Up,” a romantic comedy that debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 19 in advance of its UK premiere. Ben Palmer (“The InBetweeners Movie”) directed from a Brit List script by Tess Morris. Bell plays Nancy, a cynical single woman who has sworn off dating until she meets Jack (Simon Pegg), a charming romantic who mistakes her for his 24-year-old blind date. Will Nancy “man up” and come clean, and if she does, can Jack “man up” and.

The first day of Spring usually ushers in thoughts of flowers, sunny days and romance. What better way to celebrate the day than with this great first trailer for the feel-good British comedy Man Up.
Directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie), written by Tess Morris (The Love Punch) and starring Lake Bell & Simon Pegg, the film will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 19.
Nancy (Lake Bell), is done with dating. 10 times bitten, 100 times shy, she’s exhausted by the circus. So when Jack (Simon Pegg) blindly mistakes her for his date, no one is more surprised than her when she does the unthinkable and just —- goes with it.
It’s going to take a night of pretending to be someone else for Nancy to finally Man Up and be her painfully honest, awesomely unconventional self… but will Jack also Man Up, and be...

Even though Simon Pegg will return to the final frontier for Star Trek 3 next year, for which he's also co-writing the script, this year he's heading back to romantic comedy territory. Man Up is a new romantic comedy slated to hit the United Kingdom this summer which sees Pegg starring opposite Lake Bell (In a World) in the story of two people who mistakenly come together on a blind date that never should have been. It looks like standard romantic comedy fare, but the presence of Bell and Pegg certainly elevates it a bit, and it might be a good one to see. At the very least, it's fun to see Pegg outside of sci-fi and fantasy fare. Here's the first UK trailer for Ben Palmer's Man Up, originally from Yahoo UK: Man Up is directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie) and written by Tess Morris (the...

Luther Season 3 BBC America
Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Inbetweeners Movie), and Darren Boyd (Fortitude, Spy) are among the guest stars in what the BBC are billing as Luther’s darkest season yet. Filming has just begun on the two-part murder mystery featuring Idris Elba as the troubled British detective. Written by Neil Cross, the new adventure sees Luther trying to move on from the death of Justin (Warren Brown) while being confronted by a nefarious new foe.
Executive producer Elizabeth Kilgarriff said: “It’s very exciting to have Idris Elba back as Dci John Luther and to be in East London shooting the show’s fourth installment. Neil Cross has pulled out all the stops to make this the biggest, scariest story yet and it’s a privilege to welcome such a glittering array of acting talent to our already stellar cast.

For many actors, Downton Abbey was their first big break in television.
But not everyone can be a Lord Grantham or a Carson. For many - whether they chose to leave or were written out - their fortunes changed after exiting the ITV drama.
So after the news that Dan Stevens has joined Beauty and the Beast, Digital Spy looks at the careers (so far!) of 9 actors who have bowed out of Highclere Castle...
1. Ed Speleers
After starring in series three, four and five of Downton, Ed Speleers left Jimmy Kent behind for another role in a big budget British TV drama.
We most recently saw him in the part of Edward Seymour in Wolf Hall, and he will also star in upcoming films Remainder and Howl. Most prominently, he's been cast alongside Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter in Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
