A Realistic Movie with a Tragedy Overdose
azeemkhansmak15 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Angadi Theru is one of the better Tamil movies, it has the right dosage of realism, portrayal of love, good screenplay and overall a good story line. The story progresses with Jothilingam (Mahesh) joining Senthil Murugan Stores as a Sales boy after losing his father to a tragic accident.

Jothilingam meets Kani (Anjali), a strong minded independent and mischievous girl in the store. In a battle of wits both start to put the other down, which progresses into each setting up traps for the other ending in Kani getting beaten up by the store supervisor, who further goes on to misbehave with Kani. Jothilingam upon knowing about the misbehavior feels guilty. Jothilingam's guilt makes him avenge Kani by intentionally throwing a big box on the supervisor resulting in injury to the supervisor and subsequent hospitalization.

The trials and tribulations bring Jothilingam and Kani together and they fall in love. The story captures the innocence of teens in their first job, the way love blooms due to people reacting to adverse circumstances, instead of just good looks and sweet talk.

All in all a very good movie, barring the accident in which Kani loses her legs, which imho was an overkill. The challenges which the couple go through were sufficient to bring out tears in the audience. The actors and actresses do justice to their roles, Anjali as Kani stands out with her natural acting ability and girl next door looks.

A must watch Tamil film of all time
arkb-rgrk24 August 2011
even a small kid from T.N. knows that the busiest part of Chennai is "T.Nagar",mainly 'Ranganathan Street' its the plot for this movie.Anjali as a sales girl,Mahesh as a sales boy are apt for their respective roles.Director Vasanthabalan once again reaches deep into the hearts of Tamil Cinema Lovers with his Jubilant Screenplay and emotion filled duologue's.One can easily feel the pain of poverty in the lives of such sales boys & girls. After Perannmai this is another good production by Ayngaran Production house. Many of Tamil viewers anticipated a national award for this film but unfortunately the jury didn't make a great decision for awards. After a longtime i can sense tears flowing out from my eyes while watching a movie.yes, "Angadi Theru" is such an emotion trapped film.this film throws light on the unnoticed lives of sales boys & girls. At last i guarantee u that "Angadi Theru" is not just a movie to watch & forget but a movie to remember & cherish for a lifetime. Thanks to the movie crew for an everlasting emotional documentation............

One of the best Tamil movie
drajeshmail14 April 2014
One of the few Tamil films with great quality and screen play . Love, emotions, poverty, happiness, music, cinematography are top notch . This movie is completely original work of the director, not even a single scene can be linked to a different movie . Directors scores great while portraying life of common man in Chennai, no one could have done it better . Climax could have been less suffering to the couple, it was little bit extreme . Anyway beautiful love story on the back drop of T Nagar Chennai, exactly showcasing the unique culture of the city . But the movie can reach only to limited audience due to its culture-biased story and screen play . Overall one of brilliant movie of all time .

A Musical Rendition of Cinematic Reality
rangaraj-vignesh7 May 2016
Probably one of the best Indian movies all time: what I loved about this movie is how they had proved small budget movies do not decide on the cinematic experience at all. I just finished watching the movie and I have a very heavy heart. It was not an easy movie to watch--every frame was painful, gross, and pathetic. Sometimes I wished they were over-exaggerating the living conditions of those workers, but a little bit of search online, you would know that everything that had happened in the movie was true.

Alright the acting was top-notch. The female lead was really good at portraying a winsome young adult with sorrows lurking behind. The male lead wasn't really that great, but it doesn't matter: he does things the way he knows best. The music was lovely; the background rendition could have been more organized, but like I said none of those matter. It was funny at times--you will laugh and you will cry. A screenplay with right kind of elements placed at right places: a tear-jerker.

I repeat: this movie is not easy to watch. Be warned. Every element was a juxtaposing touch: amidst movies that take songs abroad in snow-clad mountains, dreams here were made of villages that the leading roles were longing to go back. The modern theme of feminism was rightly handled.

This movie isn't that beautiful, but that is not a problem at all! :) (Aval appadi ondrum azhagillai; anal adhu ondrum kurai illai)
