Of the three segments featured in Neo Tokyo, Labyrinth Labyrinthos was definitely my favorite one . I also consider this the best animation Rintaro has ever directed, having a beautiful, timeless feel.
It has a very stylish animation, feeling like a very surreal, Japanese take in the classical tale of Alice in Wonderland, but with a more nightmarish touch, taking some visual cues from Kabuki theatre, shadow puppetry and the Cirque du Soleil.
This story in particular had enough potential to be expanded into a full feature lenght movie, which I personally would have loved to see. Shame such thing never happened, because it would have been simply wonderful.
