Between shows like “Halston,” “The New Look,” “The Collection,” and Ridley Scott’s movie “House Of Gucci,” stories about the fashion empire seem to be on the neverending rise. And in the era of Peak TV—which hasn’t really subsided despite reports to the contrary—it seems like almost anyone is worthy of their own mini-series. To that end, one of the most famous icons of modern fashion, eccentric German designer Karl Lagerfeld, is getting the biopic treatment, or rather, origin story in the new Hulu mini-series, “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld.”

How many millions of records have you sold? If you're Jessica Simpson, that number is well over 20 million. If you're not Jessica Simpson — and you're not, like, Elton John or one of those guys from Aerosmith — that number is probably a heck of a lot less. At the turn of the century, thanks to hit singles like "I Wanna Love You Forever" and her reality TV series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," Jessica Simpson was one of the most famous human beings in the entire world. And she's still really darned famous.
And like most singers who break into the popular zeitgeist, Simpson has also tried her hand at acting. She's probably best known on the big screen for playing the role of Daisy Duke in the 2005 "Dukes of Hazzard" movie, or at least for her cover of "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" from the soundtrack. She also did a...

There's no disappointment quite as confusing as when a film gets canceled. It might happen suddenly, or become inevitable as a passion project suffers delay after delay. Then, when it does happen, it's usually because of shrouded problems behind the scenes or other powers beyond our control, like luck and timing. Suddenly, an exciting project ceases to exist. For hard-working artists and eager cinephiles alike, it's like a rug getting pulled.
Horror films are a unique breed, often made with tiny budgets and by the skin of their teeth. Not all of them are exceptional, but the genre is so boundless in its creative possibilities that any shelved project represents a lost vision. These 11 films, from binned sequels to scrappy original stories, represent films that have all come close to glory but, for a variety of reasons, were kept from audiences' eyes. Rock music in the 1980s was full of debauchery and excess, and like many of their fellow Sunset Strip peers, Guns N’ Roses notoriously lived it up during their prime.
In a new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment (watch below), Slash admitted that the band’s antics probably wouldn’t sit well by today’s standards and that a young Gn’R would be “canceled” nowadays.
“I haven’t actually… thought about it in that context,” Slash said. “To be honest, I haven’t really thought about all that [scandalous stuff] that much recently. But now that you mention it, most of everything that [Guns N’ Roses] did would’ve gotten us canceled in this day and age.”
He added: “We would not have fared well in this environment, for sure… on so many different levels. But I mean, a lot of things from back then would not be what you consider acceptable at this moment in time.

With October firmly in the rearview mirror, it’s bizarre to reflect on what a wild month it turned out to be. Not only did Trace and I celebrate our 200th Main Feed episode with Karyn Kusama’s perfect film, The Invitation (2015), we revisited David Gordon Green’s divisive Halloween Kills, and even managed to get Don Mancini and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon on as guests.
We’re kicking off November with a decidedly quieter and more obscure film: Jennifer Reeder‘s Knives and Skin (2019). I reviewed the film upon its initial release, so I was happy to revisit it with fresh eyes, helped in no small part by our great guest, Princess Weekes.

In-person festival runs January 19-29 with online component.
Sundance has announced the first two films in the 2023 festival’s From The Collection section – the 25th anniversary digital restoration of Slam and the uncensored director’s cut and restoration of The Doom Generation.
Marc Levin directed Slam, which premiered in U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 1998 festival and won the grand jury prize. The film exposes the structural inequity of the criminal justice system through the story of a young Black performance poet imprisoned for a petty crime who finds salvation in his rhymes. Bonz Malone, Beau Sia, Sonja Sohn, and Saul Williams star.

From September 15th until October 30th, I’ll be watching at least one new to me horror film every day, and providing collections of capsule reviews week by week. On Halloween itself, as ever, I’m planning an all day marathon of some of my favourite horror films.
I hope you’ll find it interesting following as I dig further into a genre I’ve always loved, and maybe find some hidden gems along the way yourselves.
Week 1’s film can be found here
Week 2’s films are here.
The perils of Week 3 are just a click away.
Now… Prepare yourself for Horrorthon 4
The Collector (2009) Dir: Marcus Dunstan
Apparently, this was originally conceived as a prequel to Saw, but when the screenplay was rejected for that idea, it was re-jigged as a standalone, which has now received its own sequel, if not one that has birthed a franchise on the level of Saw.

"What is it with you shut-ins and these zombie fantasies?" Blumhouse + Paramount have revealed the main trailer for Unhuman, a horror comedy from Blumhouse Television that is coming to VOD next month. A new film from the filmmaker behind The Collector and The Collection, though this feels much different. A group of misfit high school students must band together to survive when their school bus crashes on a field trip. Relationships are tested once they realize they are being stalked by strange attackers. They must take down the murderous zombie-creatures... before they end up killing each other first. This stars Brianne Tju, Benjamin Wadsworth, Uriah Shelton, Ali Gallo, and Peter Giles. This definitely looks made-for-tv, with a limited budget and derivative ideas, even the "undead" after them aren't that scary. Worth skipping? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Marcus Dunstan's Unhuman, direct from YouTube: The dead will have this club for breakfast.

Right from the title director Gia Elliot and co-writer Emma Fitzpatrick make it clear that Take Back the Night isn’t just another monster movie. By using the slogan of many marches and movements protesting violence against women as their title they signal their intention to make this about more than simple scares.
The challenge with that is not letting the message overwhelm the actual plot and the film’s entertainment value. Or worse become heavy-handed and preachy. The Hunting, which I recently reviewed, is an example, its message about veterans and Ptsd taking over what was supposed to be a werewolf film. Can the makers of Take Back the Night succeed where many have failed before?...

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. Marc Pilcher, the Emmy Award-winning hair and makeup designer for “Bridgerton,” has died of Covid-19, his agency Curtis Brown confirmed to Variety.
He was 53 years old.
The news comes just three weeks after the U.K.-based stylist — who was double vaccinated and had no underlying health conditions — picked up a Creative Emmy statuette in Los Angeles for his work on the Netflix series.
Pilcher took and tested negative on multiple Covid-19 tests to make the trip across the Atlantic and back again for the ceremony. Not long after his return he took ill and his condition deteriorated over the weekend. He died on Sunday.
As well as “Bridgerton,” Pilcher was known for his work across a variety of West End shows, television programs and films. In 2018 he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “Mary Queen of Scots” with Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie.

For as long as there have been guitars, there have been guitar lessons. There’s something uniquely soulful about a master teacher passing down lessons to an eager novice. Those first chords create an inextricable bond between student and instrument, and instill a lifelong connection to how music is made, shaped, refined, and mastered.
Covid-19 shattered that traditionally intimate process. Instead of sitting in a room strumming along with a teacher who could help you find the right fret and pluck the right string, many students were forced to take their lessons online.

Fresh off the long-awaited arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (a.k.a. the fabled Snyder Cut), HBO Max has no need to appease fandom culture in April 2021. But the streaming service is gonna do it anyway!
The most notable new release for HBO Max this month is the HBO series The Nevers. This show, created by Joss Whedon, is set in a 19th century steampunk London and finds a sizable portion of the population (predominantly women) having been “Touched” by mysterious paranormal powers. There’s an interesting bit of irony at play here, as HBO Max is following up the Snyder Cut with a show created by his original Justice League replacement. Or at least there could have been an interesting bit of irony here, if Whedon had not bowed out from the show and been enthusiastically left out of the marketing material by HBO.

If there are two things many horror fans love, they’re elaborate violence and horrific suffering. Both of these can be expected from The Collected, for which the first few images have now been released.
Despite lacking any numerical designation, The Collected is actually the third in a series that began with The Collector in 2009 and continued with The Collection in 2012. Written by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan and directed by the latter, the movie titles refer to the actions of a masked madman who is a collector of people, taking one person from each place he invades and killing the rest.
The first film follows a handyman who attempts to steal a valuable ruby from his rich employers to pay off a debt to loan sharks, only to discover the family have been imprisoned and their house littered with traps preventing them from leaving and horrifically killing or mutilating the unwary.

Thomopoulos and Albrecht are reuniting after a successful run together at HBO, where Albrecht served as chairman and CEO and Thomopoulos created and oversaw the network’s dramatic series department.
