Quotes

  • Robert Robinson : I don't think Points of View is all that much to do with television. It was supposed to be about television, of course. But what we hadn't realised - silly of us, really - was that television is for watching, not writing about. And when we started getting the letters it became plain that television was simply an excuse. People weren't writing about television. They were writing about themselves. Television was simply the light which our correspondents used to illuminate their own prejudices. Sex, football, soap opera, bad language, censorship, the moon landings... all these were treated by the people who wrote to us as, at best, deliberate inconveniences engineered by the BBC to annoy them personally... or at worst, a Communist conspiracy.
