A sweet episode.

Mr. Dithers is a gun collector whose wife does NOT want him buying yet another gun. But his heart is set on buying an antique Derringer pistol....so he concocts a plan. He'll give Dagwood the money to buy the gun and Dagwood will then 'give' the gun to Dithers as a present....and Mrs. Dithers wouldn't object to this, would she? Well, despite being a nice plan, it doesn't come off as smoothly as anticipated because the salesman is a jerk and wants to charge Dagwood more than the asking price. What's next and why does Mr. Dithers want to strangle Dagwood? Watch and see.

This is a decent episode of the series and a HUGE improvement over the prior two shows...which were incredibly poor. The family, unlike the previous two, works as a family and their love for Dagwood is sweet.

Dagwood and the Derringer
JordanThomasHall5 November 2018
Mr. Dithers is eyeing a Derringer from Dow Miller's sport shop to "round out" his prize collection of firearms. Mrs. Dither's won't allow the expense, however. Mr. Dither's schemes to give the money to Dagwood to buy it and present it to him as a gift when he returns the next evening. Meanwhile, Blondie and the kids are out shopping for Dagwood's upcoming birthday. They overhear Dagwood talking with Miller (Frank Nelson) at his shop about the pistol. Miller holds out for a higher price and Dagwood is forced to walk away to gather more funds. Blondie and the kids walk into the shop and promise to buy the gun after they scrape up the money. Dagwood goes to his insurance agent O.A. Bates (Walter Woolf King) to unsuccessfully borrow money against his policy. Cookie goes door-to-door selling their puppies. Blondie explains the situation to Harriet who arranges to have her friends join them in strong-arming Miller to sell the gun to Blondie for $50. Dagwood returns to the shop to find the gun has been sold. An irate Mr. Dithers suspects Dagwood has it to get a higher price. Wait until he finds what Dagwood got for his birthday!
