'When the wind blows right, you can pick up a lot of things.' 'Mr. Pleasant' covers one weekend in the life of Red, a college student in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan in the early 1980s. Red, a working-class kid from Detroit, goes to an out-of-town party with his housemates and has a disastrous one-night stand with Robin, the party's host. Stranded by this friends, he must rely on a ride home the next morning from Mary Jean, a gay friend of Robin's. During the ride, he confronts his own prejudices and simplistic worldview and thinks about the aimless, self-destructive life he's been living. As a child, he misread a map and thought 'Mt. Pleasant' was 'Mr. Pleasant.' He'll never make that mistake again.
