Leave it to coach Pharrell Williams to make a decision that had everyone's jaws on the floor.
The dynamic new coach stunned his fellow coaches – and just about everyone else watching – when he made a surprise choice to close out the second night of The Voice's knockout rounds.
Williams pitted California-based Elyjuh René, 18, against Ricky Manning, a 19-year-old Florida native who now sings in New York City subway stations. The duo received coaching from special advisor Taylor Swift, and initially all signs pointed to Manning for the win.
"You look like a star," Williams told Manning, while pointing out his Twilight vibe.

The Voice knockouts continued Tuesday, with Gwen Stefani using up her steal to grab Ricky Manning from Team Pharrell Williams.
Team Gwen: Taylor John Williams vs. Troy Ritchie
Troy Ritchie walked into rehearsal with Taylor Swift and coach Gwen and brought out his guitar to cover Outkast’s “Hey Ya!” After his first run through, both Gwen and Taylor advised him to distance himself a bit more from the original by performing the first verse and chorus acoustically before launching into the full blown dance track.
Taylor John Williams chose to sing “Mad World,” clearly surprising Taylor Swift – or ‘Swifty’ as she declared herself during rehearsals. Taylor had trouble connecting to the audience and controlling his nervous movements on stage during rehearsal, but he turned it around for the performance.
Troy won over the crowd, and the coaches, with his slow beginning and his fancy footwork when he broke out...

“Whatever happened to Fun?” rages Kristen Johnston’s Lexi Featherston in one of the most shocking (and hilarious) scenes in the history of Sex and the City.
That exact same question popped into my head during tonight’s episode of The Voice, where Gwen Stefani harajuku’d Season 7’s most ebullient contestant in favor of yet another plaintive balladeer complete with sad-puppy expressions and a hipster hat.
Ok, so maybe Troy Richie’s vocal on “Hey Ya!” suffered a tiny bit at the expense of his Hammertime side-shuffle and his crowd-baiting callouts. But couldn’t the world of reality singing...

Gwen Stefani was the only coach left with a steal on Tuesday night’s The Voice final battle rounds, using it to snatch up Team Adam's Beth Spangler.
Team Pharrell: Brittany Butler vs. Ricky Manning
Pharrell Williams paired Brittany Butler and Ricky Manning with a jazzy take on “On Broadway,” and, while they did put a jazz spin on the song, neither Brittany nor Ricky were particularly at ease with the song. In rehearsals, Pharrell advised both Brittany and Ricky to try to find a way to be themselves with the song. “You’re, like, trying out for the X-men. There’s no reason to hold back,” Pharrell said.
Gwen loved both Brittany and Ricky, commending them for their stage presence, but Adam Levine gave the battle to Ricky because of his improvement from the blind auditions. Pharrell was torn, but in the end he declared Ricky the winner.

The Apocalypse
Written and Directed by Andrew Zuchero
Many filmmakers attempt to do too much with a low-budget, short film. Worse yet, some will often make their short too long. While short films in theory are far more easy to produce than feature films, they do present an artist with one major roadblock: Trying to cram a clever story into so little time isn’t an easy task. While many shorts use the same structure and story telling techniques as longer films, the film’s turning points come at a much quicker pace. Therefore, a five minute film, should have less than a minute worth of exposition. The most successful shorts are those that concentrate on a simple idea. In The Apocalypse, written and directed by Andrew Zuchero, an idea can be deadly, and the beauty of the film is how Zuchero spins a very simple idea into something far more twisted.
