At one point during the scene in which the injured Daryl, played by Norman Reedus, is lying on the ground hallucinating a conversation with his brother Merle, a pained expression crosses Daryl's face. Actor Michael Rooker (Merle) later explained that while filming, a large carpenter ant bit Reedus on the neck at that moment and he simply incorporated the pain into the scene.
This was the first time the Dixon brothers shared a scene.
The sign in Dale's RV ("How about a nice cup of shut the hell up?") is a nod to the Dawn of the Dead (2004) character 'CJ' ("The plan is you drink a nice tall glass of Shut The F*ck Up!")
The scene where Daryl falls into the water and later "sees" his brother Merle, was filmed at the Cochran Mill Nature Center in Palmetto, Georgia.
