Director: Kôji Shiraishi. Writers: Takashi Shimizu, Kôji Suzuki. Cast: Mizuki Yamamoto, Tina Tamashiro and Aimi Satsukawa. There have been a combined total of twenty plus films, set in the Ringu and Ju-on film universes. Spanning eighteen years, these villains have killed untold numbers victims. Now, both cursed spirits face each other in Sadako v Kayako! Shot in Japan, the film was put together after an April Fool's Joke went viral. And, this outing is lighter in tone, compared to the earlier, more horrifying titles. This film fan was reminded of Hong-jin Na's The Wailing (2015), while watching this title. In both films, shamans are powerless to fight the supernatural. Still, the outcome of Sadako v Kayako can be predicted from a mile away. There is no way these iconic, money-making characters can take a final sleep. Sadako v Kayako is a bit predictable, but it is also an entertaining film.

In the battle of horror film icons, it is fair to say that the dream match-up was of course Freddy vs. Jason. A fun film, it could never live up to the expectation created around it, which could be a problem faced with Sadako vs. Kayako. Pitting The Ring against The Grudge is something of a dream match, but can it live up to expectation?
When the cursed video tape is once again watched, two friends find themselves on a race against time to stop the curse. With the help of spiritual medium Kyozo (Masanobu Andô) their may be a chance, by pitting Sadako against Kayako the known ghost who haunts a nearby house. The first trailer for Sadako vs. Kayako has been released. J-horror fans will remember Kayako from The Grudge series of horror films, with the first debuting in 2004. Sadako debuted in the 1998 film Ringu, from director Hideo Nakata. Director Takashi Shimizu, from The Grudge, has co-written this horror movie mash-up; Kôji Suzuki is the other co-writer. Developed from an April Fool's joke and faux trailer, Sadako vs. Kayako is being produced by Kadokawa and NBC Universal Entertainment Japan. The film's first exciting trailer is showing here. Plot details remain sparse. However, from the trailer, promotional material and title, it is obvious that these two horror icons will compete for bodies, both onscreen and in theatre seats. As well, Sadako vs. Kayako will be presented in 4-d, in Japan. The release date is scheduled for this summer, June 2016. For those unfamiliar (like this film fan), 4-d introduces physical effects such as strobe lights,...

I've got some good news for all you Attack on Titan fans out there! Last week director Shinji Higuchi announced that the live-action adaptation he's working on will be split into two feature films! He also revealed that with the help of manga creator Hajime Isayama, they will introduce some new characters and new, more dangerous villains. As a fan of the franchise, I'm completely okay with new characters being added to the story. I'm sure the movie will end up being just as badass as the anime.
23 year-old actor Haruma Miura was previously announced as the film’s star, and he is taking on role of Eren Jaeger. We now have a list of actors who will be Joining Miura in Attack on Titan, and they consist of Hiroki Hasegawa (Jellyfish Princess), Kiko Mizuhara (Norwegian Wood), Kanata Hongō (Prince of Tennis), Takahiro Miura (Space Battleship Yamato), Nanami Sakuraba (Twin...

I'm still kind of spitting up the bad taste left in my mouth by Sadako 3D. I mean, holy shit! Hopefully the third film in the American Ring franchise will help me purge myself of it once and for all. Read on for your first details on The Ring 3.
According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has tapped F. Javier Gutierrez to direct the next installment in The Ring franchise. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are on board as producers, and it is unknown at this time if Naomi Watts will return to star.
Based on a Japanese cult success, the first U.S. film went on to gross $249 million at the worldwide box office. That was enough to justify a sequel, which didn’t match the first one’s B.O. power but still grossed $160 million worldwide despite sucking CG deer dick.

Everyone’s favourite television crawling ghoul is back in “Sadako 2”, the second in the new “Ringu” franchise, director Hanabusa Tsutomu following up his 2012 reboot with more of the same. Again shot in 3D, the film draws from rather than being actually based upon Suzuki Kôji’s original novels, taking the cursed video concept in a different direction and attempting to expand the mythology behind its long haired villainess. The film is set five years after the events of its predecessor, with Akane (Ishihara Satomi) now expecting a child with her boyfriend Takenori (Seti Koji). Unfortunately, she dies giving birth, and the task of caring for her daughter Nagi falls to Takenori’s 24-year-old sister Fuko (Takimoto Miori, “Higanjima”) after he finds himself blaming the child for her death. With Nagi now aged four, strange things start to happen and people start dying in mysterious circumstances, leading Fuko to suspect a...

We all know that the makers of Ringu went to the well once too often, but that hasn't stopped the series from making shed loads of money. So here we are, for better or for worse, anticipating the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Sadako 3D 2. After reviving the franchise using 3D technology in 2012, director Hanabusa Tsutomu is back to give audiences another dose of one of Japan's most famous ghosts in 3D! Set five years after the events of Sadako 3D, Sadako 3D 2 offers a new tale of terror involving Sadako, the vengeful ghost that comes with a cursed video. Once again, Hanabusa uses the 3D effects to his advantage, immersing the audience into the world of the film and forcing them to confront the terror face-to-face. We're yet to watch the original 3D entry at 24Fps but we're big fans of the original trilogy, but fans of...

The Japanese are seriously obsessed with the supernatural. They're also obsessed with used panties, but that's another story altogether. In any event, another live action adaptation of a popular manga is on its way.

On this day in 1995 the first film in the Ringu franchise Ringu Kanzenban was released in Japan. A madeforTV movie with low production values it sticks closer to the 1991 Koji Suzuki novel then any film since (by most accounts). Unlike the theatrical remake released to instant acclaim in 1998 the protagonist in Ringu Kanzenban is a male reporter with a pregnant wife. Sadako (freaky demonic girl) is also portrayed as having an incestuous infatuation with her father.

It’s hard to believe that Sadako has been horrifying moviegoers in one medium or another for over 20 years. Although she disappeared for a brief period during the 2000s, the little girl from the well is back in full swing. Tsutomu Hanabusa’s follow-up to last year’s “Sadako 3D” is getting ready to invade theaters across Japan next month. Judging from the trailer, the sequel isn’t deviating too far from the stuff audiences encountered in the reboot. Is that a bad thing? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for in a horror movie. If long black hair, the internet, and jump scares amuse you, then “Sadako 3D 2″ will probably fit the bill. The franchise only bears a passing resemblance to Hideo Nakata’s 1998 classic, but I guess the series is trying to appeal to a new generation. For better or for worse. Here’s what...

A new trailer is here for the sequel to the insipid Sadako 3D (review), and it's filled with little girls, long black hair, and really cheesy pop music. Remember when Ring was scary? Sadako 3D 2 opens in Japanese theatres on August 30th.
Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, Sadako 3D 2 -- set five years after Sadako 3D -- stars Miori Takimoto as a clinical psychologist raising her four-year-old niece, whose mother died in childbirth. The cursed online video clip reappears, and strange things begin to occur around the young girl.
Ring author Kôji Suzuki tackled the writing duties on this latest entry and is the only reason we're even moderately interested in this could-be abomination.
Synopsis

For many people in the Us, the American remake of Hideo Nakata's Ringu by Gore Verbinski, simply titled The Ring (starring Naomi Watts), was their introduction into the weird, bizarre, and often creepy genre of J-Horror (Japanese Horror). It did well enough that it triggered an American remake of Takashi Shimizu's Ju-on into the Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle The Grudge, and a slew of others. Meanwhile, back in Japan, what Ringu started continued to evolve - but not necessarily into something better. Tsutomu Hanabusa's latest entry in the Ringu franchise, Sadako 3D, takes it to a place that at first feels like a necessary update from the old fashioned videotape to web video, but it quickly descends into a territory that's far too cheesy and obnoxious.

Hot on the heels of me being completely offended by Sadako 3D (review), word has come that a sequel is not only on its way, but it's hitting Japanese theatres on August 30th. There is, however, one bright spot to this debacle.
We've got some good news and some bad news for you, kids. Let's start with the bad... Tsutomu Hanabusa (Sadako 3D) is once again directing. Yeah, that hurts. It hurts a lot. However, original Ring author Kôji Suzuki. That's something, right? Miori Takimoto stars.
We'll bring you more on this one as soon as we get it, if only because we're hoping that the involvement of Suzuki can finally steer this ship back on course. Well, that and we are gluttons for punishment. Stay tuned.

Oh, Sadako 3D. How unfulfilled I was left after watching you. I waited many months for a proper U.S. release and Well Go USA fulfilled my want. Unfortunately, my excitement was drowned out by an offensive mish mash of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and The Exorcist: The Version You've never Seen.
A high school teacher named Akane (Satomi Ishihara) hears rumors of a cursed video clip circulating online. The clip is said to show a man, Kashiwada (Yûsuke Yamamoto), commiting suicide. Supposedly, anyone who watches the video is driven to commit suicide themselves. Akane refuses to believe the rumors until one of her students mysteriously dies after viewing it.
Akane soon discovers that Kashiwada intends to use the clip to cause chaos and death, which will help the spirit of Sadako (Ai Hashimoto) find a host body for her to possess.

You can’t keep a ghost down. Especially a pissed off ghost girl. Hell hath no fury, and all of that. Sadako, thought dead in, er, the 50 other movies about her, is back. Again. She stalked the Internets in last year’s “Sadako 3D” (read our review of that film here), and is back once again in “Sadako 3D 2″. Hey, it’s not like the Japanese film industry is any different from Hollywood, you know. If it makes money, they’ll keep doing it. “Sadako 3D 2″ is directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, who also helmed last year’s reboot of the franchise. The two films have some good pedigree behind them, though. Kôji Suzuki, who wrote the book that was turned into the “Ring” movies, is back to write the “Sadako” films. So if nothing else, there are those very solid ties to the original characters here. The first...

Around these parts we are big fans of the Japanese Ring films. Hell, even the American version of The Ring was pretty good. Sure, the Japanese TV show sucked and the American The Ring 2 left Lots to be desired, so we're hoping Sadako 3D can right some wrongs.

Cinema Today is reporting that some screenings of the hugely successful horror film Sadako 3D will soon be adding a whole new dimension to the movie-going experience which Kadokawa is calling “4D”.
Last September, several theaters in Japan screened Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D” with a few additional “4Dx” features such as specific smells wafting through the theater or vibrations at certain points during the movie. However, Sadako 4D will apparently take things to a whole new level.
In keeping with the suspense/horror theme, moviegoers will have their legs grabbed, large clouds of white smoke will be pumped into the theater, and seats will even be fitted with velcro to bind people’s arms. Also, the theater will suddenly be invaded by a horde of real-life Sadakos who will come out of a large well.

I should, in theory, be asleep right, songs from the latest Dead Milkmen album dancing through my head. I’m pretty tired, yet here I am, buzzed from the revelation that “Confessions” star Ai Hashimoto will portray the iconic Sadako in director Tsutomu Hanabusa’s “Sadako 3D”. Filmmakers have been tight-lipped about who would tackle the villain in the upcoming chiller. In fact, they’ve waited until just two days before the film’s Japanese release to make her identify known. Craziness. So, before you go to bed, be sure to gawk at the image you see below. That way I can justify my bloodshot eyes and surly demeanor in the morning. “Sadako 3D” opens in Japan on May 12th, 2012. South Korean audiences will get a chance to see what all the fuss is about on June 14, 2012. Remember: Look at the picture...

Say what you will about how tightly controlled Japanese movie publicity is, but they sure know how to keep a secret. Just one day from the theatrical release of Tsutomu Hanabusa’s Sadako 3D in Japan, the young actress playing the latest incarnation of Sadako has finally been revealed: Ai Hashimoto.
There was actually a preview screening held back in April, but the 12 minutes of end footage that would have revealed her identity was left out.
The casting puts her in good company. Although the first Sadako was played by kabuki actress Rie Inoo for her ability to move creepily, subsequent Sadakos were played by famous actresses such as Yukie Nakama and Tae Kimura.
Anyone who follows mainstream Japanese films should be pretty familiar with Hashimoto at this point. She’s appeared in a slew of movies since her debut in 2009. Most notably, her performance in Tetsuya Nakashima’s critically-adored...

At this point, if you’re not already excited about director Tsutomu Hanabusa’s “Sadako 3D”, then there’s very little chance that the latest batch of images will change your mind. Not that the pictures are particularly weak, mind you — they’re actually the strongest batch released thus far — but it appears that “Sadako” isn’t going to deviate too far from the conventions set forth by its acclaimed predecessor. And while there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, I highly doubt the film will draw in those who have burned themselves out on Asian ghost stories. On a more positive note, here’s what the film is about: 13 years after the original Ring movie, Sadako returns to the big screen in 3D! Akane is a high school teacher who hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone’s suicide. The...

Last month saw the debut of the first teaser trailer for the newest installment of Japan's Ring series, and today we've got the full trailer for Sadako 3D. The new installment in the series is directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa and based on the forthcoming novel S (Esu) by original creator Koji Suzuki (and hopefully, an english translated release is not far behind that) and hits theaters in Japan on May 12th. No word on any international release dates yet.

The official website for Tsutomu Hanabusa’s Sadako 3D has been updated with a a new trailer.
The movie is a continuation of the blockbuster Ring franchise, which is based on a series of popular horror novels by Koji Suzuki. Director Hideo Nakata adapted the first novel in 1998, helping to spark a J-horror “boom” (okay, bubble) that dramatically boosted interest in Asian horror movies all over the world for a few years afterward. In 2002, Gore Verbinski directed a Hollywood adaptation that brought the story further into the mainstream.
Of course, being that it’s been over 14 years since the first movie, a few details had to change with the times. VHS is long-dead, so—like everything else—Sadako’s curse has been digitized and uploaded to the internet. Also, making it 3D is almost definitely all about recreating the iconic scene with Sadako slowly crawling out of a screen toward the viewer.

Today we have a trailer for the new film, which contains such horrors as the dreaded 404 Error. Check it out below. Like it or not, spooky little girl Sadako is preparing to thrust her audio/visual evil directly into the third dimension with director Tsutomu Hanabusa’s “Sadako 3D”. Judging from the teaser you see embedded just below these poorly-constructed ramblings, the filmmakers are hoping to make great use of the technology by shoving all sorts of horrifying images into the screaming mugs of its audience. Whether or not they sacrifice story for gimmick remains to be seen. Need a plot synopsis? I just happened to scare one up: 13 years after the original Ring movie, Sadako returns to the big screen in 3D! Akane is a high school teacher who hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone’s suicide. The footage is said to drive anyone who sees it to also commit suicide. Akane does not believe the rumor at first, but...

Am I currently in the market for another movie set within Koji Suzuki’s creepy little universe, a world where peculiar VHS video art can spell certain doom for those who watch it? Oddly enough, I am. However, I’m not entirely sure where Tsutomu Hanabusa’s upcoming “Sadako 3D” is headed. The person you see above is the film’s green-eyed villain, one Kiyoshi Kashiwada, portrayed by Japanese heartthrob Yusuke Yamamoto. His mission: Resurrect Sadako by any means necessary. It will be interesting to see which direction this one’s headed. Colorf me chin-scratchingly intrigued. Here’s a handy synopsis from Asian Media Wiki: At a high school where Akana Aikawa works as a teacher, a rumor exists of a video. The video is purported to show someone committing suicide. Then Akane Aikawa’s student Noriko kills herself. During that time, more suspicious deaths occur one after another. The...

Taking place exactly 13 years after the original Ring movie, creator Koji Suzuki has come up with a brand new storyline for our favorite long, black haired ghoul Sadako Yamamura. Here’s an extremely novel idea: Take an exceptionally well-worn concept, get the original author to pen a brand new story, and then present the final product in the third dimension. What am I talking about, you ask? Why, it’s “Sadako 3D”, the latest installment in the neverending “Ring” saga. This particular tale was written by Koji Suzuki, the individual responsible creating one of the most chilling horror villains in history. In my opinion, anyway. I’ve always had a soft spot for poor Sadako and her deranged little video. Here’s the official synopsis for the aforementioned title: At a high school where Akana Aikawa works as a teacher, a rumor exists of a video. The video is purported to show someone committing suicide. Then Akane Aikawa’s student Noriko kills herself. During that time, more suspicious deaths occur one after another. The police concludes that the deaths are suicides.
