The (Extra Hot) Cannes Hot List: Nic Cage, Kristen Stewart and Paul Rudd Films to Heat up the Market
The Cannes Film Festival is bracing for what could be its most disruptive edition in decades, with freelance festival employees threatening strike action that could derail the opening night ceremony, and the entire French industry on tenterhooks ahead of an expected new wave of #MeToo allegations against some of the country’s biggest stars, including a few with films in competition this year.
Well, at least the market looks promising. Judging by the number and quality of projects pitching at the 2024 Cannes film market (May 14-22), this could be a banner year for the Marché du Film.
“The pre-sales market is back in a big way,” notes Janina Vilsmaier, senior vp of sales and distribution at Protagonist Pictures, whose Cannes slate includes Simon Curtis’ best-agers comedy Encore starring Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons, Henry Winkler, and Don Johnson, and Jimpa, the upcoming feature from Good Luck to You, Leo Grande director...

Jesse Eisenberg has made a career out of playing socially awkward characters who find themselves in an extraordinary situation. The actor hit the peak of this trope when he was cast as Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s The Social Network. The film was universally acclaimed and was nominated in eight categories at the Oscars, winning three.
Amidst screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who adapted the first film from the book The Accidental Billionaires, talking about working on a sequel to the film, actor Jesse Eisenberg had expressed his enthusiasm at getting another stab at playing the billionaire long ago. However, he was not that hopeful about playing another billionaire he had played before – Lex Luthor.

Induce Gagging
As his trial over illegally trying to hush up any scandals that might have derailed his 2016 run for President continues, Donald Trump continues to violate his own gag order. Whether it’s via his all-caps broadsides on social media or his prop-heavy pre- and post-proceedings press conferences, Trump persists in attacking jurors, the judge, the prosecutors, the legal system, and any reporters who publish accounts of him napping and passing copious gas in the courtroom.
In fact, on this second trial day proper, Trump stormed out of a morning session to determine whether he’d violated the gag order and… immediately violated the gag order, putting out a Truth Social rant attacking Judge Juan Merchan and the New York Da’s office. And while Merchan...

Since the dawn of man, there have been anthropomorphic recreations of the lives of primates. The beginning of Exists echoes those many other horror films set in the deep woods. Hapless folks encounter an unusual threat, likely after trespassing or offending the locals. And as this well-used formula commands, the characters then die in gruesome fashion. Eduardo Sánchez’s 2014 film is, admittedly, derivative of most body-count horrors with rural backdrops, yet it contains at least one novelty to set it apart: a Bigfoot. Hardly five minutes into this film and the young cast hits something on the road. As they assess the damage to their car and figure out what they struck, the characters get the sinking feeling that they are being watched from the nearby woods. Someone finally states the obvious: “That wasn’t no deer, bro.”
On average, found-footage horror films delay their strangeness in an effort to establish a semblance of normalcy. Make everything hypernormal and deliberately tedious so that the bizarre bits are more persuasive.

Last night, millions tuned into the 2024 Super Bowl. As has become a capitalist tradition, even people who aren't football fans watched the big game just to see all of the big new commercials, man of which feature some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In addition to new trailers for upcoming blockbusters like "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Twisters," there were also some hilarious commercials with Ben Affleck forming a hip-hop group with Matt Damon for Dunkin and Arnold Schwarzenegger reuniting with his "Twins" co-star Danny DeVito for State Farm insurance. But none of those ads were the most watched on YouTube during Super Bowl Sunday.
You might be asking yourself, if everyone is watching the Super Bowl, how do you determine the most watched commercial? Well, according to Variety, this is based on YouTube's own viewing stats that it measured worldwide on gameday, starting February 11 from 12:00am Et until...

Sasquatch is a funny word, the sounding out of it likely to prompt a smile even before you consider the mythical beast that lies behind it. And the idea of comedy is only bolstered by the suggestion of a dialogue-free film featuring actors in Bigfoot outfits. But filmmaking brothers David and Craig Zellner aren’t just here to make us laugh - although they certainly achieve that - they’re also in the business of building a detailed and delicate world around a year in the life of their creatures that proves surprisingly poignant.
It starts with the exquisitely rendered costume design from Steve Newburn, which the Zellners have judiciously chosen to only include a distant glimpse of in the pre-publicity still for the film. The sasquatches are most certainly hirsuit, but there’s a soulfulness to the face design that achieves the sort of connection that Planet Of The Apes once did.

On the fifth day of Nicki Minaj’s intense fixation on Megan Thee Stallion following a jab the “Savage” rapper likely threw Minaj’s way on her latest track, Minaj invoked Rihanna to claim that Megan tried to force sympathy for herself as a victim of violence. She also refuted that she has encouraged her fans to approach or desecrate the gravesite of Megan’s late mother. The Texas cemetery where she’s buried has reportedly enhanced security and informed local police of the risk it faces as Nicki Minaj...

Rapper Nicki Minaj has dismissed rumours of her latest track titled ‘Big Foot’ being a “diss track” at rival Megan Thee Stallion.
The new track was thought to be taking aim at the artist amid the pair’s long-standing spat, reports ‘Mirror.co.uk’.
Nicki had already played a part of the track during an Instagram Live video on Friday, seemingly making subtle digs at Megan.
In the song’s lyrics it says, “Bad b****, she like 6 foot, I call her big foot / The b**** fell off I said get up on your good foot”. Fans thought this was making reference to rapper Tory Lanez shooting Megan in the foot all the way back in July 2020.
As per ‘Mirror.co.uk’, Nicki even posted a snap of Megan when announcing the song. But she’s since taken to X, after an account wrote: “Cover art for Nicki Minaj’s Megan...

Nicki Minaj has dropped new song “Big Foot.” The diss track arrives following a dust-up between her and Megan Thee Stallion following the latter’s release of “Hiss” on Friday.
On Minaj’s new track, she goes in for the kill, straight-up naming Megan in the first verse. “This little beggin’ whore talkin’ ’bout Megan’s law/For a free beat, you can hit Megan raw,” Minaj spits. “If you a ghost writer, Pardi in Megan jaw/Shots thrown but I still ain’t let Megan score.” The song culminates in a spoken word warning.

Nicki Minaj has been on social media assault ever since she tuned in to Megan Thee Stallion’s latest track, Hiss.
Released on Friday, the song garnered an immediate reaction from Minaj, who appears to believe that she and her convicted sex offender husband are being targeted in a specific lyric.
In the hours following the song’s release, Minaj took to Twitter multiple times to express her grievances with Megan, labeling her a liar and a flop, according to Xxl.
In a recent tweet, Minaj not only announced the release of her own track, Big Foot but also issued a threat to “empty da clip” with five additional songs.
The Starships rapper implied the unveiling of incriminating evidence, without explicitly mentioning Megan by name.

It took a lot of time — and hair — to transform Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough into Bigfoot. They spent several hours in the makeup chair to don the elaborate prosthetics needed to play two of the eponymous creatures in “Sasquatch Sunset,” a surreal comedic drama that premieres on Friday at the Sundance Film Festival.
“We would arrive — and I would have to shave everything on my face — and then it was two hours in the chair applying hair, makeup and fur, and then climbing into a costume that was specifically made for us,” said Christophe Zajac-Denek, who also stars in the film as one of the mythical beasts, at the Variety Studio presented by Audible. “Tons of fur.”

Here’s a strange little movie announcement – apparently, The Zellner Bros (Damsel and Kumiko: The Treasure Hunter) shot a top-secret movie called Sasquatch Sunset with two pretty big stars, Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg, and the film is already set for a release. Indeed, Bleeker Street just announced a 2024 theatrical release for the mystery project, which, the press release notes, centres around “a year in the life of a singular family.”
No other details were available, except that the movie stars Keough and Eisenberg, potentially sporting a lot of fur, but nothing is confirmed. In fact, it’s possible that it’s not even really a Sasquatch movie, although the Zellner Bros famously made two short films at Sundance called Sasquatch Birth Journal 1 & 2, which posed as “found footage” depicting a Sasquatch family.
The timing of this announcement is interesting as Sundance announces its official lineup tomorrow afternoon. Given the Zellner Bros’ history with the fest,...

Bleecker Street has acquired U.S. rights to Sasquatch Sunset, the mysterious new feature from renowned filmmakers David and Nathan Zellner (Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter), Deadline reports today.
Riley Keough (The Lodge), Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland: Double Tap, Vivarium), Nathan Zellner, and Christophe Zajac-Denek (“Twin Peaks: The Return”) star in the film.
As for plot, details remain scarce at this time other than it’s described as “a year in the life of a singular family.”
What we do know is that Eisenberg is playing a Sasquatch. As in, a head to toe hairy cryptid.
In a recent interview with Variety, the actor teased that he’d be going full cryptid in Sasquatch Sunset. “I play a Sasquatch: full makeup, full body hair, no lines. I grunt, but no lines,” he told the outlet. “I’m so looking forward to this.”
That seems to hint toward the possibility of this film...

Bigfoot’s relationship with the horror genre is a strange one.
On its own, the idea of a towering woodland ape is pretty pants-shittingly scary, especially if you happen to be contemplating the legendary cryptid while in the middle of a deep dark forest. However, for some strange reason, that terror too often gets lost when it’s seen through the lens of a movie camera. Maybe it’s the aftermath of films like Harry and the Hendersons essentially turning the beast into an upright and trunkless Mr. Snuffleupagus. Or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that it’s just too easy to make inappropriate jokes centered around its, ahem, big feet. Whatever the reason, the vast majority of cinematic representations of Sasquatch seen in horror just don’t hit the way other monsters do.
Of course, there are exceptions to this rule. One of them is...

The use of folklore and native legends as a source for content in the horror genre stretches back decades, whether it be for minuscule scenes within the larger narrative or wholesale films based on such stories. Ranging from the likes of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and other cryptids to simpler stuff like “When a Stranger Calls” or “Urban Legends,” it’s all fairly commonly used as a building block that serves up some intriguing content. Directors Chalit Krileadmongkon and Pakphun Wongjinda, hot on the heels of their successful creature feature “Leio: The Terrible Giant” (or the rebranded US title “The Beast Beneath”), team up again with inspiration from a Thai legend of a human-possessing centipede to deliver another stellar creature feature in “Creepy Crawly” on Digital and Blu-Ray from WellGo USA on October 3.

This summer, Small Town Monsters lifts the veil on Alaska’s long and dark history of Sasquatch lore with their latest investigative documentary On the Trail of Bigfoot: Land of the Missing. Director Seth Breedlove, along with a team of experts and adventurers, invites audiences to explore the last frontier through a darker lens than ever before. On the Trail of Bigfoot: Land of the Missing is the follow up to this year’s Last Frontier, picking up on threads established in that film and carries them into a terrifying and bizarre conclusion to Breedlove and Small Town Monsters’ work in Alaska.
Amongst Alaska’s beautiful epic vistas and seemingly endless acres of wilderness lurks a dark secret. The secret, known by locals and hearty adventurers alike, revolves around the nearly constant disappearances that take place across “the land of the midnight sun”. These disappearances seem to have often-mundane explanations.

Dark Star Pictures have released supernatural sasquatch horror Summoning The Spirit on Digital and DVD.
The film, written by Jon Garcia and Zach Carter and directed by Garcia, premiered to rave reviews at the Miami Film Festival with outlets calling the film “captivating” (Film Factual), saying it “revels in its atmosphere and it is thick with paranoia” (Reel Reviews); further, Blair Witch Project producer Greg Hale says of the film, “Sts is a great addition to the sub-sub-genre of Bigfoot horror. One of the reasons Superman is so revered worldwide is because of how he stands up for the marginalized and champions the ideals of truth, equality, and justice. With the surprisingly brilliant sixth episode, titled My Adventures With Mad Science, viewers are once again reminded of the cause Superman fights for.
The unfortunate fallout that happened in the fifth episode of My Adventures With Superman due to Lois confronting Clark about not revealing his secret identity to her and the duo abandoning Jimmy in his Bigfoot adventure is also addressed properly, even with the short runtime. In the previous episode, the General in charge of covert government operatives and Amanda Waller attacked Superman using agent Slade Wilson, wielding an advanced tech-laced armor whose tech signature was similar to most of the tech-based supervillains Superman had fought so far. The central mystery sprawls further in Episode 6 as Clark learns about his...

What starts as a pleasant walking simulator between a brother and his older sister, swiftly turns into the most eerie version of a Hansel and Gretel story that you’ll ever come across. Initially released in April of 2023 across all major platforms, the game is now available on Xbox Game Pass. For us horror fans, Bramble is the gift that keeps giving. As stated before, the game starts with an immense fairytale feel. However, this game quickly turns dark and only gets darker from there. Just when you start to think surely you have seen it all, this game delivers a few more gut punches to leave you gasping in disbelief. I even found myself asking the question, “Is this even allowed in an M-rated game?”

After making The Third Saturday in October Part V, the fifth entry in a non-existent series, what do you do for a follow-up? If you’re writer/director Jay Burleson you make The Third Saturday in October and give your faux franchise a starting point.
After a text crawl telling us what we’re about to see is based on a true story we launch into the story of serial killer Jakkariah “Jack” Harding who we see meeting his fate in the electric chair. Witnessing his execution are Ricky Dean Logan and Vicki Newton both of whom lost loved ones to Harding.
Unfortunately when they go to the cemetery to see him put six feet under they see something much worse.
