Nickel is a fairly chemically resistant metal but it is pyrophoric as raney nickel that also contains aluminum. Raney nickel and other forms of nickel are used to hydrogenate vegetable oil to produce margarine. A principle source of nickel is a meteor impact site near Sundbury, Ontario.—David Foss
