Loved it

These families worked so well together. You could just tell it wasn't forced or fake. The toddler cracked me up! The little blonde boy. He was so funny. Probably almost 17 by now. Time flies! I enjoyed seeing how things worked back then in a poor mining community in Wales. It was very interesting, but also very hard work and harder living.

It's about as real as any 3 week experience could be...that is to say.....POOR!

Warning: Spoilers
Once again, as with Coal House at War, this series is padded with time wasted at the beginning of each meager 28 minute episode with a review of what we have already seen and what we will see in the currant episode.....what's the point except to pad a 20 minute episode up to 30. Similarly at the end of each episode we see a preview of what next episode will contain. The integrity shown by such memorable series as Victorian House, Edwardian House, Wartime Farm and quite a few others is, unfortunately NOT REPEATED in this bite-sized sample of life in a Welsh colliery town. Firstly 3 weeks is hardly enough to ween these city families of their 2007 lifestyles and at 48, one of the 'miners' is already well beyond the age of miner of those days. They tried hard but too much was provided for them and too little was required of them in the way of genuine living in the times. In fact the only complimentary thing to be said of the series is that the sequel...Wartime Coal House, was EVEN WORSE. If Victorian Farm reality is your pleasure at a full 1 year stay then you will be more than disappointed with this 3 week mini-effort with it's many compromises.
