Our Girl meets Line of Duty.

Amy Silva is called in when a weapons testing display goes horribly wrong, and a series of heavily armed drones gun down a number of security officers.

Foolishly, I avoided this because of hearsay, it seems to have been quite badly received by various reviewers, newspapers etc, but if this first episode is anything to go by, I think they're wrong.

On the debit side, the one thing straight away that I can see this is lacking, is that feeling of claustrophobia that was heavily present on board the ship.

I thought the story was really interesting, and those scenes with the drones were pretty awesome. Lots of action, suspense and intrigue, I thought this was quite gripping.

I get more than a sense of reality about some elements, you can only imagine what has inspired Wudjan.

8/10.

Episode 1

Season two goes away from the claustrophobia of the action being set in a submarine.

On a military training ground somewhere in Scotland. Air Vice-Marshal Marcus Grainger (Dougray Scott) has invited dignitaries from the fictional Middle Eastern country of Wudyan to see four remotely piloted drones in action.

They destroy several targets but someone takes control of one of the drones and fires live rounds at the soldiers. Seven are killed.

DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) is called in by the Ministry of Defence to investigate a murder case. There is already one suspect who has been arrested.

Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) is there to assist but this time she is also the partner to Silva and they are expecting a baby.

It is not a strong opening although the action sequence with the drones was well done. The first episode does set up some red herrings, false trails and make pointed political comments.

Wudyan is a dictatorship and the Grainger wants to sell arms to them. It will bring money and jobs to the British economy.

Military nonsense
jefferons17 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched series 1 and thought nonsense but fun to watch.but series 2 is nonsense without the fun.frustrating story with out any logic or rea situations. Any military or police viewers will be shouting at the telly.

Since when did heavily pregnant police detectives do dangerous things without any back up.

Since when did the military invite civilian police to help them?

When did terrorists forget to blindfold people they have kidnapped?

If your in a car and a gunman is outside why not race off.

So stupid endless daft situations.

Children could write a better story with more logic I watched the entire series just to see how stupid it was.

Unbelievable nonsense
johndavidson-115 January 2024
I'm not sure how this nonsense got made.

There are so many things wrong with the plot in episode 1 that I very much doubt I'll make it to episode 2.

Civilian police invited to investigate a military incident ?

Suspect not in custody of military police?

Two officers in a relationship working the same case?

Heavily pregnant police inspector on active duty around firearms ?

Military personnel being interviewed by civilian police without an officer present ?

Mi5 agent turns up but leaves again after sharing info about a terrorist subject in front of said "terrorist".

Not to mention the utterly awful acting from Doug Ray Scott, Ruth Leslie and others.

The first series was tosh, but it was at least watchable. This one, not so much.
