When we reviewed Trauma Therapy: Psychosis it was mentioned the fillm was a reworked version of The Vance Institute. A was originally shot with the intent of being released in black and white with a few colour scenes. Instead, it was released all in colour.
There was also new footage added featuring Tom Sizemore as the host of The Tom Sizemore Show interviewing Victor, one of the characters from the 2019 film Trauma Therapy. After Sizemore died this made a centrepiece of the film’s publicity as his last film despite there being several more of his films yet to be released.
This was shot and edited in without the participation of the original director, Lawrie Brewster who says he was assured he would have the final cut.

Writer/director Romano Scavolini’s 1981 film Nightmare, a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, stirred up a lot of controversy when it was released. It was given an X rating in the US, banned as a video nasty in the UK, and a couple distribution executives did prison time for putting the film out in the UK. Plus special effects legend Tom Savini, who is credited on the film, denied having any involvement with it. And now Severin Films is honoring the movie with a three disc 4K Uhd release! Copies will be available for pre-order on the Severin webstore when their summer sale launches this Friday.
Rue Morgue reports that Nightmares in a Damaged Brain “will be presented in a never-before-seen 4K 1.85:1 scan of the most complete version ever assembled. The region-free discs will come packaged in a limited-edition slipcover with reversible wrap, plus a booklet written...

The controversial 1981 horror movie Nightmare – also known as Nightmares in a Damaged Brain – is coming back to life on 4K Uhd from Severin Films, Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report this afternoon. The film has been scanned from the internegative and various foreign print sources to create the most complete version ever assembled!
Severin is also publishing a 193 page novelization of the film, written by Rue Morgue’s Michael Gingold, based on the original screenplay by Romano Scavolini.
It’s been called “graphic and unapologetic” (SexGoreMutants), “brutally effective” (Screen Rant) and “a forgotten classic” (Horror News). It remains the most reviled, controversial and misunderstood genre film of the ‘80s. Now “the most repulsive, degrading and horrifying movie ever made” (NY Daily News) can be experienced like never before.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Night of the Demon
Not to be confused with the 1957 film of the same name (also on Screambox), 1980’s Night of the Demon is an unforgettable Bigfoot experience. It’s no surprise that the gory exploitation flick was prosecuted as a “video nasty” by the British Board of Film Classification upon its initial release. It’s best remembered for a scene in which Bigfoot rips off a guy’s manhood — and that’s not even the most outrageous death scene!
The cheesefest plays like an early slasher, but instead of a masked killer lurking in the woods, it’s a guy in a cheap gorilla costume.

The TV upfronts are usually a dog-and-pony show where networks unveil their new content slates.
At YouTube’s Brandcast presentation for brands and agencies, held for the first time during upfronts week, the focus was on the gigantic video platform’s popular creators, its scale across internet TVs — and a new solution for marketers to set limits on ad frequency, addressing one of the most irritating aspects of ad-supported streaming services.
“The audiences you most care about are coming to YouTube to watch content,” CEO Susan Wojcicki told attendees at the event, held Tuesday evening at the Imperial Theatre in New York’s Times Square. She cited Nielsen’s estimate that YouTube overall reached 230 million people 18 and older in the U.S. in October 2021: “YouTube is the mainstream,” she said.

Regina Hall is one of three women hosting the 2022 Oscars (along with Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer), a high point for the hard-working actress after 20+ years in the industry. The versatile star first emerged as a talent to watch in 1999’s “The Best Man,” but it was the following year’s one-two punch of “Love & Basketball” and particularly “Scary Movie” that helped her become a presence in Hollywood that was here to stay. "I just want things... to get back to normal." Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for a horror comedy series titled, in full: Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. This looks like the best mockery of horror since the Scary Movie series. From creators Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson & Larry Dorf, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is a darkly comedic, wine-soaked, satirical slant on the psychological thriller that will have you guessing who, where, why and how in the hell?! until the very end. The story follows a heartbroken woman, who just sits at home and stars out the window and drinks wine, watching life go by. Until she witnesses a murder... Or did she? This is making fun of The Woman in the Window and The Girl on the Train and all of these.

The next edition of Universal’s 1988 cult classic comedy Midnight Run is finally happening after fits and starts throughout the years this time as a sequel we’re told. Regina Hall is set to star and produce in the feature which is being written by Brooklyn Nine-Nine scribe Aeysha Carr and also produced by Jesse Collins.
The details of the new version are being kept under wraps. The original movie marked multi-Oscar winner Robert De Niro’s pivot into broad mainstream comedy, the actor playing Jack Walsh, a bounty hunter whose job it is to collect mob accountant, Jonathan Mardukas, played by the late Charles Grodin, and get him to Los Angeles. “I think the Epstein stuff and all the details of it are so horrifying that it felt like a good fit, genre-wise, for a psychological horror,” Red Scare’s Dasha Nekrasova told us back in March as her directorial debut The Scary of Sixty-First debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival. Following the story of two women who move into a New York apartment once owned by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Utopia picked up the film for a December 17 release at NYC’s Quad Cinema in 35mm, followed by a digital release and theatrical expansion in 35mm beginning December 24. Ahead of the release, the trailer has now arrived for what looks to be ideal Christmas counter-programming,

The worlds of Jeffrey Epstein, “Eyes Wide Shut,” and QAnon conspiracy theories collide to nightmarish results in “Red Scare” podcast host Dasha Nekrasova’s fiery feature debut “The Scary of Sixty-First.” Given the film’s Upper East Side New York City setting, there’s a posh Roman Polanski vibe to the eerie proceedings as two young women move into an apartment that once served as a hub for Epstein’s sex trafficking ring — and maybe a portal to hell?
If that’s not enough to titillate you, here’s the official synopsis:
While out apartment hunting, college pals Noelle and Addie stumble upon the deal of a lifetime: a posh duplex on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. But soon after moving in, a more sinister picture of the apartment emerges when a mysterious woman arrives and claims the property used to belong to the infamous and recently deceased Jeffrey Epstein.

Updated, 5:25 Pm: The byzantine bankruptcy of The Weinstein Company and its acquired assets had a least one element settled Friday with an appeals court ruling that looks to leave some of Hollywood’s biggest stars a little light, to say the least.
Affirming lower court rulings, a three-judge panel on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals dropped an opinion that Spyglass Media (formerly known as Lantern) don’t owe Silver Linings Playbook producer Bruce Cohen anything, at least for now. As with some marquee name actors, Cohen was looking to snare the percentage of the Oscar-winning film he was entitled when the now-imprisoned Harvey Weinstein and his brother’s Bob outfit cratered a few years back as sexual assault claims engulfed the older sibling.
“The approximately $400,000 in contingent compensation owed to Cohen before the sale’s closing does not need to be paid in full, though (if timely) it...

“She’s a very sick girl and she’s always been into, like, the UK,” says Noelle (Madeline Quinn) about her roommate Addie (Betsie Brown) to her new friend The Girl (Dasha Nekrasova). Sick fascinations are the instruments of demonic evil in Dasha Nekrasova’s debut feature The Scary of Sixty-First. Quinn co-wrote Scary with Nekrasova based on their shared feeling of futility in the aftermath of Jeffrey Epstein’s death. Unsatisfied with the story that Epstein committed suicide, in the summer of 2019 Nekrasova held “Epstein Truther MeetUps” to investigate his death with fellow skeptical New Yorkers. Her truther explorations became an idea for the film and Nekrasova’s Girl character could be a stand-in for the actress, but that isn’t too important. The real story with The Scary of Sixty-First is: if you speak of the devil, he shall appear.

Debuting on the streaming platform in October, the film tells the story of Laura (Rashida Jones), a novelist and mother to two young daughters, who grows suspicious of her frequently-absent husband, Dean (Wayans), setting off on a journey with her philandering father Felix (Murray) to determine whether or not he is cheating.
A charismatic tech entrepreneur on the cusp of massive success, Dean proved to be a challenging role for Wayans, because of the fact that he was written as a mystery for his wife to figure out—a man whose actions and true motivations would only be understood over time.

Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin is staying in business with HBO.
The writer and producer has extended his overall deal with the WarnerMedia-owned premium cable network and its streaming sibling HBO Max for an additional three years.
It comes as he prepares for his latest series, an adaptation of Sony Playstation video game franchise The Last Of Us. The project, which is with HBO, is being written by Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who wrote the video game, and tells the story of Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed.
Mazin was responsible for HBO’s period drama Chernobyl, produced by British firm Sister, which scored nineteen Emmy nominations and won for Outstanding Limited Series, Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Director. He also won Writers Guild, Producers Guild and Peabody Awards for the five-part series.

Universal might have tried their hardest to make the Dark Universe a thing, but audiences simply weren’t interested in the idea of the studio’s stable of classic monsters headlining action-packed blockbusters. The plans were certainly ambitious, but also hugely flawed, with the likes of Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie all lined up before the would-be franchise imploded at the first hurdle.
Cruise might be one of the biggest movie stars in history, but even he couldn’t save The Mummy from disaster. Not only was it terrible, but fans weren’t able to look past the idea of any big budget effort focusing on the Egyptian undead that didn’t feature Brendan Fraser. Indeed, viewers of a certain generation hold Fraser’s Mummy trilogy very close to their hearts, with the actor’s dashing and charismatic Rick O’Connell shooting him to stardom...

Any monster that a sci-fi writer could dream up pales in comparison to the evil that might reside in human hearts, a fact made abundantly, terrifyingly clear in HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
The new series, based on Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel, is a blend of period drama and the type of horror and science-fiction popularized by author H.P. Lovecraft. It stars Jonathan Majors (When We Rise) as Atticus Freeman, a military vet who returns home to look for his father, Montrose (The Wire‘s Michael Kenneth Williams), who has mysteriously gone missing. Marlon Wayans marked this month’s 20th anniversary of “Scary Movie” with a new Variety interview in which he touches upon the”evil” nature of Harvey and Bob Weinstein. The spoof comedy was produced and distributed by Dimension Films, the genre arm of the Weinstein brothers’ Miramax Films, and it was a huge win for the studio after it grossed more than $157 million domestically on a $19 million budget. Marlon Wayans co-wrote the script and starred in the film with his brother, Shawn. The duo’s older brother, Keenon Ivory Wayans, handled directing duties.
The success of “Scary Movie” launched a lucrative franchise for the Weinstein-owned Dimension that included four sequels and nearly $1 billion in grosses at the worldwide box office. All three Wayans brothers would return for the 2001 sequel “Scary Movie 2,” another financial success with $141 million on a $45 million budget, but they were shut out of their own franchise starting with “Scary Movie 3.

The recent debut of HBO Max has only increased the competition in the streaming wars, and with both WarnerMedia and Disney having launched their own in-house platforms to try and compete with Netflix and Amazon Prime, they’ll have to make do with pre-existing content for the time being as they slowly but surely start to build up their library of original projects.
Obviously, the superhero genre is set to play a huge part in the potential success of both HBO Max and Disney Plus thanks to the hype surrounding the Snyder Cut of Justice League and the shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe respectively, but it’ll be a while before they can match the two market leaders when it comes to the sheer quantity of exclusives.

"Wake up, Richard." FilmRise has unveiled an official trailer for a paranoia thriller titled Browse, which hasn't shown up at any festivals this year. This drama finally takes us into the world of digital paranoia, with all of our devices and technology being able to track and observe everything you do. Lukas Haas stars as Richard, a solitary man who becomes convinced that someone hacked into all of his devices and that they're being used to manipulate and control him. "Desperate for clarity, Richard seeks to uncover the truth of who is trying to manipulate him and why, but the more he struggles with his futile investigation, the further he’s cast into an insurmountable web of paranoia." Scary. Also starring Sarah Rafferty, Chloe Bridges, and Bodhi Elfman. This actually looks quite unsettling. Especially with the Clockwork Orange wink at the end. Skyman, a new film from The Blair Witch Project’s Daniel Myrick, is set to make its Earthly arrival, set to bring about more fictional-found-footage drama, as evidenced by the release of a new trailer on the occasion of the film’s acquisition by distributor Gravitas Ventures, which has release plans that are intrinsically of the Covid-19 era.
Myrick, who wrote and directed the picture, has returned to his original wheelhouse with sci-fi offering Skyman, which essentially gives the arena of UFOs and close encounters the… well, Blair Witch-type disguised fourth wall treatment, manifesting as a pseudo-documentary. The trailer film debuted at the 2019 Austin Film Festival, held that October, after which it was shopped around.

[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.
