CNN and the “CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley” were among the 2016 Peabody Awards winners announced on Tuesday morning by the board of jurors. Two NBC affiliates join the big networks among winners in the news category. TV news divisions sprung into action to cover the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris as French TV confirmed that at least 153 people have been killed at multiple sites in Paris including a soccer stadium where there was a suicide bombing, several restaurants and bars and a concert hall, where the worst of the attacks took place with at least 100 dead there. For the first full week of Brian Williams‘ suspension, “NBC Nightly News” kept its ratings edge, beating ABC’s “World News Tonight” in viewers by a healthy margin while narrowly edging David Muir’s broadcast in the news demo. With Lester Holt anchoring, Nightly delivered 9,430,000 viewers compared to 9,032,000 million viewers for Wnt, a 398,000 viewer advantage. The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams was the country’s most-watched newscast last week, but ABC World News With Diane Sawyer triumphed in the adults 25-54 demo by 83,000 viewers, besting NBC’s newscast four out of five weeknights in the age bracket sold to advertisers. NBC led the pack in overall crowd, with an average of 8.423 million viewers — 11% (830,000 viewers) ahead of ABC (7.593 million) and 29% (1.908 million) ahead of CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley (6.515 million). Nightly has won in total viewers for 244consecutive weeks, and in 291 of the past 292 weeks. In the news demo, ABC clocked 2.07 million viewers, to NBC’s 1.987 million and CBS’ 1.648 mil. Sawyer’s lead over Williams varied wildly across the week, from Monday’s 204,000 viewer advantage to Friday’s 14,000 squeaker. On Wednesday, Williams bested Sawyer by 41,000 demo viewers. NBC’s newscast also continued to finish first in the younger, 18-49 demo, averaging 1.529 million viewers — 8% ahead of ABC (107,000 viewers) and 29% (344,000) ahead of CBS.

Former NBC News president Steve Capus has joined CBS News as executive producer of “CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley” and executive editor. The appointment is effective July 7. Capus is presently an executive in residence at Iese Business School, a role that he will continue to perform. He was president of NBC News for eight years and executive producer of “NBC Nightly News” for four years. For the first time in more than six years, ABC’s World News With Diane Sawyer beat NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams in the news demo for a second consecutive week. Last time it happened it wasn’t “with Diane Sawyer” because Charlie Gibson was anchoring back in March of ’08 when ABC’s newscast last enjoyed two weeks of demo ratings wins.. Broadcast from Sochi, NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams beat its first-week total-viewer averages during the Olympics in London, Vancouver, Beijing and Torino. It was the newscast’s biggest overall audience since the week of January 3, 2005. Versus the comparable week at the Winter Games in Vancouver in ’10 (11.103 million viewers ) Nightly News grew 5%.
