Hi, intrepid heroes! The season finale of indie streamer Dropout’s highly popular “Dungeons & Dragons” series “Dimension 20” drops Wednesday, bringing what creator and game master Brennan Lee Mulligan promises to be an epic conclusion to “Fantasy High: Junior Year.”
Ahead of the episode’s release on Dropout (which is also the name of the platform’s parent company that rebranded from College Humor last fall under CEO Sam Reich) Mulligan spoke with Variety about the success of the “Dimension 20” franchise, including the scheduled Jan. 24, 2025, live show’s almost-immediate sellout of Madison Square Garden last month, the fact the streaming series is not yet eligible to be submitted for an Emmy, and the next season of “Dimension 20’s” popular “Dungeons and Drag Queens” series.
Let’s start with the big one: What was it like to sell out Madison Square Garden for the live show of “Dimension 20,...

Comedy duo Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, who rose to renown via the College Humor web series Jake And Amir, as well as a long-running advice podcast called If I Were You, have been secretly readying a Patreon venture for the past few months comprising a trio of brand new digital shows -- which they just dropped today.
At launch, the Patreon channel will feature two shows -- a video version of the If I Were You podcast, as well as a new commentary series called Jake And Amir Watch Jake And Amir. In the latter effort, the guys -- joined by former collaborators Thomas Middleditch and Ben Schwartz -- will watch old episodes of their beloved web series and furnish commentary and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Episodes of both If I Were You and Jake And Amir Watch Jake And Amir will be between 15 and 30 minutes apiece, the guys say, launching weekly for patrons.

Thomas Middleditch is up for his first Emmy Award this year, for his role in HBO's lauded Silicon Valley. The show's cast is by and large made up of the kind of salt-of-the-Earth, journeyman comedians who have been plugging away in the trenches before landing starring roles on pay cable, and Middleditch is no exception. He has a long history in the comedy scene that includes stints at Chicago's Second City and the odd pilot that never got picked up. So if you're a Middleditch fan, here are five places beyond the Valley you can see your favorite lanky Canadian comedian.

Through comedy special Bianca Del Rio’s Rolodex of Hate, short film Darby Forever, and upcoming web series The Outs (which will premiere on March 30th), Vimeo has cobbled together its first full slate of original programming. Now, at South By Southwest, the online video platform has added to its library. It has announced a second round of original programming, including contributions from Jake and Amir, Garfunkel and Oates, and other notable content creators.
Jake and Amir, a comedy duo consisting of Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfield, are best known for their work with CollegeHumor, and while much of that work has been distributed on YouTube, some of it has showed up on Vimeo as well. During Super Bowl L on February 7th, advertisers will bombard millions of viewers with another round of high-profile, high-budget spots. If you won’t be able to watch those commercials live (or if, like me, you’re more interested in the game), take note that YouTube will once again serve as the pre- and post-game gathering place for all the Super Bowl ads. For the eighth year in a row, the video site has launched its AdBlitz hub, where visitors can watch, share, and rank the branded videos from the Big Game.
As has become the norm (whether we like it or not), ads will start rolling onto the AdBlitz homepage days before February 7th. In a press release, YouTube noted that 37% of last year’s Super Bowl ad video views came before the game. The most-viewed ad from 2015’s crop, Budweiser’s ‘Lost Dog,’ arrived online five days before it aired on TV.

For more than two years, Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld have worked on a TV pilot adapted from their hit CollegeHumor web series, Jake and Amir. Now, the comedy duo has revealed that their pilot will not go forward to series, and as a result, a return to the web is in the cards for them.
Hurwitz and Blumenfeld discussed the status of their pilot in the 189th episode of their podcast, If I Were You. They confirmed that they would not come to TV--at least not yet--but they pledged to continue their creative partnership. “TV still exists. The Internet still exists,” said Blumenfeld during the podcast. “We can create stuff that doesn't have to be Jake and Amir, it can be something else. It can be something entirely new, something exciting, something that builds upon what we've known and learned.”

HBO will soon be home to an odd extraterrestrial character and talk show host. The television network has ordered a pilot from Funny or Die based on its YouTube web series The Gorburger Show.
Created by directors and writers Josh Martin and Ryan McNeely, The Gorburger Show will be based on the same premise as the Funny or Die series. In Gorburger, the titular character (voiced by T.J. Miller) is a giant blue alien who has taken over a Japanese talk show, holding the staff and crew hostage while attempting to learn about humanity by way of celebrity, artist, and cultural icon interviews. The HBO pilot of Gorburger will feature guest stars Moby, Ed Helms, and Johnny Knoxville, as well as a performance from the band Eagles of Death Metal.

For nearly eight years and 750 episodes, Jake and Amir told the story of two friends who come up with new, amusing ways to bother each other and everyone else around them. Now, Jake and Amir has come to an end. CollegeHumor posted the final episode of Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld's web series on April 7th, 2015.
In the final episode, the titular duo gets fired from CollegeHumor after unleashing a vulgar film on the world. As they pack up their desks, they look back at one of their first videos, contemplate what to do next, and offer their thanks to the team that helped their web series roll up millions of views.
While this is the end of the Jake and Amir web series, it is hardly the end of the enduring bromance between Hurwitz and Blumenfeld. The two CollegeHumor writers also host a podcast called If I Were You,...

Oh sheesh y'all, twas an ending!
You might want to grab some chicken nuggets because if you haven't heard, after eight years of glorious banter, Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld's beloved web series Jake and Amir is coming to an end.
The comedy duo who created and star in CollegeHumor's longest-running series stopped by ETonline to talk ending the series, chicken nuggets, facial hair, and what’s coming next.
"Eight years seems good because it's like high school and college all rolled into one," Amir told ETonline of ending the series. "Life sort of happens in four year chunks -- so we did two four-year terms of Jake and Amir, now let's see what we do. If we fail this four years, we'll just come crawling back to the Internet."

CollegeHumor's odd couple is taking a crack at TV. Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld, who star in the massively successful web series Jake and Amir, are adapting their brainchild for TV with an assist from Ed Helms. Hurwitz and Blumenfeld, who both write for CollegeHumor, will pen and star in the series, with CollegeHumor and The Daily Show/The Office/The Hangover funnyman Helms producing. As in their web series, the two leads will play coworkers and best friends who must work together to successfully navigate their crazy workplace. CollegeHumor has released new episodes of Jake and Amir regularly since 2007, making it one of the longest-running scripted series on the web. The duo's shtick, which depicts Jake as a straight man and Amir as his slightly unhinged coworker, has proven quite durable. New episodes regularly draw hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube and many more on the CollegeHumor website.

After a muted response to day two of YouTube's comedy-fest, can Doc Brown and Jamie Oliver raise anything more than a smile?

You weren't much taken with Tuesday's crop of comic songs and sketches on YouTube Comedy Week, which included Sarah Silverman's duet with Will.i.am and a fairly broad Mumford and Sons takedown. And I don't expect doubters to be won over by what's appeared on Comedy Week since then. Most of the content is fine if its ambition is to raise a smile among office clockwatchers ("Hi, I'm Grace Helbig and you're watching Comedy Week," runs the trailer; "why aren't you doing your work?"), but I've not spotted anything must-see as yet.
There are plenty of UK-focused videos on day three, including one featuring Ricky Gervais's recent sidekick, the comedy rapper Doc Brown. Brown – Aka Ben Smith...

Since the birth of YouTube in 2005, the platform that hosts Everything, including actors, artists and comedians — has spread like wildfire, launching careers and shining a spotlight on many outstanding talents beyond that dog on the skateboard. Eight years later, rather than being a springboard for these creatives to move to TV or labels, the Internet has become another medium for them to showcase their work. The third annual Streamy Awards will honor that work this Sunday.
Chris Hardwick, comedian and host of The Talking Dead on AMC, will host the show. He is an advocate for the global, niche audiences online shows reach.
