Claiming to show a different side to the people of Compton, the synopsis for Free Throw reads: We live in a world full of lines that divide us -- Racial. Financial. Religious. But what if there was one line that brought us all together? A line we didn't just stand on, but for. A line painted on the ground that showed us all just how high we can reach. Free Throw follows eight students at Compton High School as they participate in a free throw shooting contest for $40,000 college...

We have a number of huge biopics coming up, with two of the most promising being Steven Spielberg's Lincoln and Sacha Gervasi's Hitchcock, both of which feature some incredible character work by Daniel Day-Lewis (as Abraham Lincoln) and Anthony Hopkins (as Alfred Hitchcock), as well as incredible casts including Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sally Field.
While these two films are impressive in so many ways (and their trailers below promise great things), that's not to overshadow other flicks like the next chapter in the Bruce Willis Die Hard saga A Good Day to Die Hard, the grindhouse-style trailer for The Canyon (with Lindsay Lohan), the trailer for Sam Mendes's Skyfall featuring the theme by Adele, Court Crandall's basketball documentary Free Throw or the Blu-ray release of the Tarantino Xx: 8-Film Collection (with Kill Bill, Jackie Brown,...

I can't remember a time I went to the Seattle International Film Festival (Siff) press launch and looked over the list of films and saw so many I was interested in seeing. The claim to fame for over the years is to call it the largest and most-highly attended festival in the United States. This is a fact I've often taken issue with as I don't equate quantity with quality. Granted, there has been a large number of quality features to play the fest over the years, including Golden Space Needle (Best Film) winners such as Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), My Life as a Dog (1987), Trainspotting (1996), Run Lola Run (1999), Whale Rider (2003) and even recent Best Director winner, Michel Hazanavicius's Oss 117: Nest of Spies in 2006. That said, looking over this year's crop of films I see a lot of films I will be doing my absolute best to see.
