I wanted him to pay for what he did to me, to my mum.

Devlin was shot dead outside the courtroom in the last episode. Brooks had a new fellow detective as a result. Police chief tried to get Brooks on paid leaves, but he wanted to give his help in the investigation. The 4x4 fancy car where the perp shoot the bullets was soon traced: it belongs to a woman who worked at the time; anyway her child (John Boyega), a sociology student, may have driven the car, performing the shooting. After being caught, the boy blames the police for doing nothing when his brother was shot dead years before. Actually, a lot of evidences were lost in that case and it's not clear if the perp's brother really committed suicide or detectives merely didn't care too much to the case, because it involved a black lowlife kid.

Brooks is in despair for his partner's death. He struggle to avoid drinking again and several times in this episode we can see the coin he always keep in order to prevent him from taking a booze. It's not easy to deal with the new partner, but he seems to be supportive towards Brooks.

Robocop

Warning: Spoilers
Senior copper Matt Devlin (Jamie Bamber) is sorely missed because of his untimely and tragic and unexpected death in the previous episode.

D. I. Natalie Chandler (Harriet Walter) has one of the classic lines of the episode (and maybe the series) when she accused Ronnie Brooks (The Chase's Bradley Walsh - the UK one) of being Robocop in his pursuit for justice for his erstwhile partner Matt Devlin.

One poignant scene was when Ronnie went to Devlin's home and encountered Devlin's cat who was obviously feeling lonely and hungry. Ronnie opened the fridge door and eyes alcohol and cat food. Thankfully he retrieved the cat food.
