Netflix debuted “The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson” on Oct. 6, but filmmaker Reina Gossett claims that the documentary’s director, David France, appropriated her idea and research for the project.
“David got inspired to make this film from a grant application video that Sasha [Wortzel] and I made and sent to Kalamazoo/Arcus Foundation social justice center while he was visiting,” Gossett wrote in a statement, shared today on Twitter by author and activist Janet Mock. “He told the people who worked there — I shit you not — that he should be the one to do this film.”
She then alleged that to make his film and secure a grant from the Sundance Institute and the Arcus Foundation, France pilfered her contacts as well as her work on advocacy group Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries. Extolling Beyoncé as Queen of the GRAMMYs isn't an opinion -- it's an objective fact. With 53 previous nominations, she is the most-nominated female artist in history. And considering the nine nominations she earned this year, including Lemonade for Album of the Year and "Formation" for Record and Song of the Year, and Yonce need not worry about anyone usurping that title anytime soon.
And that's just nominations! Ahead of Sunday's Grammy Awards, look back on Bey's reign over music's most prestigious awards show, including her 20 wins, her best performances and the history she's made along the way.

First lady Michelle Obama sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday's Tonight Show, and opened up about how her family's departure from the White House has hit them all harder than expected.
"It has been surprisingly emotional for all of us in ways we didn't expect," she revealed after reminiscing with Fallon about the sketches her family has filmed on The Tonight Show, and the many initiatives the late-night host has helped her promote over the past eight years.
The two also discussed President Barack Obama's touching farewell address, where many in the audience -- including the couple's eldest daughter, Malia -- were brought to tears, while Michelle managed to remain composed and tear-free.
"You kept it together, but I lost it," Fallon admitted. "I was crying on my wife's shoulder. I was like, 'He's just the best man in the whole wide world.'"

Dancing With the Stars semifinals, you couldn’t have come at a better time.
In the wake of last Tuesday’s divisive presidential election, there was no form of entertainment more welcome than quasi-celebrities telling inspirational stories and dancing for a shiny trophy. Uplifting? Yes. A bit mindless? Yes. A much-needed distraction from politics? Abso-lute-ly.
It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, we were watching through our fingers as Jake T. Austin stumbled through his first Dancing routine, or cringing as Rick Perry was essentially dragged around the ballroom by Emma Slater.

Adding to what is already an extremely crowded animation season— at least 26 entries are vying for the five Oscar slots— a few strong indie contenders will arrive this fall.
Ever since Cannes, leading the indie pack is Studio Ghibli’s “The Red Turtle” (November 18, Sony Pictures Classics), the exquisite and compelling 2D castaway drama from Michael Dudok De Wit, director of the Oscar-winning “Father and Daughter” short. It starts screening September 8 at the Toronto Film Festival.
A man shipwrecked on a lush tropical island inhabited by crabs, turtles and birds tries to escape by building and rebuilding a raft, continually wrecked by a mysterious red turtle, which transforms into a beautiful red-headed woman who becomes his companion and soul mate. The two have a son and live happily together as a family.
“The film tells the story in a both linear and circular manner,” De Wit said in an interview with “Positif’s” Bernard Genin.

A few short weeks from now, when Paige VanZant or Wanyá Morris or Nyle Dimarco hoist that Mirrorball trophy in the air, Monday’s Switch-Up edition of Dancing With the Stars likely won’t be one of the Season 22 memories flashing before their eyes.
Although the traditional partner swap has worked wonders in past seasons, most of Monday’s mixed-up duos suffered from lack of chemistry, communication or — in a few disconcerting cases — proper choreography. (When TVLine compiles its year-end Best and Worst lists, you can expect to see Keo and Len’s Viennese Waltz debate somewhere in the “Most Cringeworthy Moments” section.

The Sundance Film institute has released the line-up of film for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Going to Sundance is one of my favorite events of the year. I love going because you never know what kind of movies you're going to see. Sometimes they are great films that amaze and entertain, other times they completely suck ass, but that's all part of the fun of going to the festival. It's an awesome experience for any hardcore movie geek, and if you ever get a chance to go, you need to.
The event takes place in Park City, Utah next year from January 21st to the 31st. It looks like there's a great line-up of movies at next year's event. My favorite portion of the event is the Midnight section because it deals more with geeky genre type movies, but I also enjoy the various sections of other line-ups.

The U.S. premiere of Niki Caro’s McFarland USA will close out the 30th fest. Based on the 1987 true story and starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, the film follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. The unlikely band of runners overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.

An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. It only took seven episodes, but we finally got all of the regular characters in The Walking Dead into one episode, and perhaps that is one of the reasons why the momentum that the series has enjoyed so far in this fifth season kind of took a hit this week in “Crossed.” Then again, maybe it was just because “Crossed” was setting the table for next week’s midseason finale, which, as per usual, will likely be consequential and bloody for our cast of characters struggling through the zombie apocalypse. But saying that “Crossed” is far from the season’s best doesn’t mean that it wasn’t compelling, and the table being set for next Sunday’s “Coda” includes what looks like some very tasty morsels.

Alex's series looking back at the film careers of actors who've played the Doctor finishes with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi...
Feature
Read the previous part in this series: the film careers of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, here.
By 2009, the new version of Doctor Who had become not only an integral part of Saturday night television and a huge Christmas ratings winner but also an international success all over again. David Tennant, who had played the Time Lord since 2005 and was, arguably, more popular than any Doctor since the mighty Tom Baker hung up his scarf in 1981, had announced his resignation from the part he loved in October 2008. Many wondered how the incoming showrunner, Steven Moffat, would follow Tennant and what kind of show would emerge.

President Obama guest stars on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifanakis. Posted only yesterday, it has racked up 11 million views already! This is so very entertaining and proves what we’ve been saying for years: Between Two Ferns is one of the hippest talk shows that takes place between two ferns. Enjoy.
Of course President Obama had to do some shopping since he was out of the office. The President showed up at The Gap in New York City and bought some real Hip clothes for Sasha and Malia. So, out of all the awesome clothing stores in New York City, President Obama went to the Gap.

Kevin Bacon makes a plea to millenials not to forget the 80s. Finally! A celebrity that can bring back the 80s! Sbarro! Blockbuster! Nukes! We can’t wait to break out our parachute pants.

The Walking Dead Episode 402
“Infected”
Written By: Angela Kang
Directed By: Guy Ferland
Original Airdate: 20 October 2013
In This Episode...
Things seem normal enough. Rick and Carl get up with the sun to work on the farm. Michonne heads out on a supply run. Glenn and Maggie sleep in shifts in the watchtower. But a huge crashing noise changes everything, and Michonne runs back into the compound to help, bringing a few walkers with her. She takes on two of them, and Carl runs to her aid, but without a gun he is useless. He finds one sitting by the watchpost and expertly drops the third.
During the night, Patrick slipped from the showers into the living quarter and settled in to eat a nice live one. Coughing makes him drop his current meal and move on to the next. By the time Rick makes it into the sleeping quarters, it is pure chaos.

Life has definitely changed for the survivors of "The Walking Dead" as the AMC series enters its fourth season. The Season 4 premiere, "30 Days Without An Accident," introduces a new threat to a world already populated with the likes of walkers and Governors.
Illness is spreading in the animals around the Prison. Rick saw it happen twice in the premiere episode; one of his pet pigs fell ill, and he found a boar dying in the wilderness. But is that the same illness that strikes down Patrick (Vincent Martella) at the end of the premiere? And how did it come over him so fast? He was fine in the beginning of the episode, but then expressed how ill he was partway through the day and, by its end, had fallen over dead.
As viewers already know, humans who die without major brain damage will turn into walkers regardless of whether or not they've been bit.

Night 2 of the Live Playoffs on "The Voice" brought Teams Blake and Shakira into the spotlight. As expected -- or we're supposed to believe it just worked out that way -- each team save the best for last. Danielle Bradbery wowed the coaches and the crowed with the power of her voice at just 16-years old for Team Blake. She was followed by Sasha Allen, one of the early front-runners who showed no signs of slowing down.
To make it even more fun for the coaches, Adam Levine gave up Sasha in favor of Amber Carrington during the Battle Rounds, allowing Shakira to snatch her up. Of course, Amber remains in the running as well, but it was still fun for the coaches to poke fun at Adam for allowing Sasha to get away.
"You have one of the best voices I’ve ever heard in my life," Shakira told her.

Chicago – It seems that 2013 so far has belonged to the Beyoncé, known now just by her first name. She began the year at President Obama’s second inauguration, admitting to lip-syncing her performance of the National Anthem. She followed that up with her triumphant Super Bowl halftime show, which also featured her former girl group, Destiny’s Child. Beyoncé then debuted her HBO special “Life is But a Dream,” which she also produced and directed.
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, and made her debut in national media on “Star Search” when she was still a child. The band for that performance, “Girl Tyme,” eventually morphed into Destiny’s Child, when Beyoncé was only twelve years old. After scoring a single on the 1997 “Men in Black” soundtrack and releasing their self titled debut album, the group went on to multi-platinum success with “The Writing’s on the Wall...

Film-maker left 'stunned' as studios refuse to finance film about Liberace's love life, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon
Hollywood studios refused to finance Steven Soderbergh's forthcoming HBO biopic of the flamboyant entertainer Liberace because it was "too gay", the Oscar-winning film-maker has revealed.
Despite the presence of two fellow Academy Award-winners, Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, in the leading roles, executives repeatedly passed on putting up the movie's relatively meagre $5m budget. Titled Behind the Candelabra, Soderbergh's film centres on the relationship between Liberace and his younger long-term lover Scott Thorson, who met when the latter was just 17. The film will screen on the pay-tv channel HBO in the Us following Hollywood's lack of interest.

Our NCIS review broke down the latest installment of TV's #1 show in great detail.
Now, TV Fanatic staff members Steve Marsi, Matt Richenthal and Eric Hochberger have assembled for a weekly Round Table Q&A discussion of events from last Tuesday's 200th episode, "Life Before His Eyes."
Join in below, as we analyze various aspects of Gibbs' introspective journey ...
----------------------------------
Describe this episode in one word (or two).
Steve: Imaginative; Thought-provoking.
Matt: Great stuff.
Eric: Edge-of-your-seat. I defy you, Steve, and your tyrannical word limits! From the moment Gibbs was shot, this became a riveting installment, albeit not because of the action or the real-world plot (obviously Gibbs would come out of this fine). I just couldn't wait to see who appeared in the diner, and what alternate NCIS reality we might get a glimpse of next.
What was your favorite one-liner?
Steve: One easily overlooked but quite cool moment...
