This is more of a review of the story, than the overall (visual and audio) of the episode.
While the episode is exciting to watch, I can't stop thinking what a bad message it delivers. And from reading most user review praising the story, I kind of worry what our society has become.
First, about the vote to decide if the ship should be headed to a populated island (as the monster demanded), or to a deserted island. There should be a third option. Since there is at least one escape boat, there should be another option: Try to kill the monster along with the ship; and escape with the boat(s) -- basically Torrin's plan at the end, but with more survivors.
If the third option is presented during the vote, most likely half of the crews would vote for this. I say this because the other options are just really bad (morally bad or have slim chance of survival).
The second point is, there is a message in the story that: if a person thinks doing thing a certain way is good, then it is okay for him to kill everyone else if all of them oppose him. If it is not dictatorship, I don't know what is.
If all the other crew members have decided to do thing one way, what gives Torrin the power to not listen to them and kill them all? The proper way in a democratic society is that, there should be discussions and compromise from each side. And ultimately people should get to a solution that is not absolutely one-sided. If the whole crew can include the life boat into the discussion, I am sure they can come up with a better solution where the monster would be killed, and with more survivors (possibly all can survive if they can string together floating devices to the life boat).
Visually this animation is pretty great. Just that the story, and other users reaction, is disturbing.
