A Welsh drama set in Wales with Welsh actors, even speaking Welsh (although we watched it in English). Although Iwan Rheon is the most recognizable star thanks to Game of Thrones we recognized other actors from other Welsh shows like Keeping Faith. It was a decent drama although you pretty much knew from the beginning that the bad guy would turn out to be the good guy in the end. The drama was in figuring out how he would end up that way. It took until the fifth episode to figure out who the bad guy really was and up until that point there were enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. No awards forthcoming but they had to play the hand they were dealt, and for a local production it was okay.

I cannot agree with those rating this "superlative" as i found myself becoming angry and frustrated at how almost every character was an appalling human being . Please dont tell me you have sympathy for the psychopath mother .She is vindictive,selfish ,deranged ,nasty. Her daughter is only a little better and has sat on vital evidence for 18 years .The second ex husband is also a poor specimen : the father of the accused man is a monster : the mother though now mentally disturbed also colluded with her monster husband to frame their innocent son : the local councillor is another monster and her daughter a devious spoiled brat ; the butcher is a mess of a woman and the journalist barely better than the rest of them . The detective is dim and lazy . So there you have the particpants . Turns out the alleged culprit is/was the decent person in a societal cesspit .

The photography was attractive and i thought the acting fine though others disagree .The script is riddled with silly actions that no one would undertake and holes one could drive a bus through .

Wouldnt recommend to anyone unless it was the only thing to watch.

When convicted murderer Joe gets out of prison, that means a lot of pain for the mother of the girl he allegedly killed (but the location of whose body he has never revealed). That's the premise of 'The Light in Hall', which has apparently received some critical plaudits. Unfortunately, almost every element of the plot seems overly familiar: the reluctant journalist returning to her home town to ends up investigating her own past, the useless police whose main function appears to be to obstruct the protagonist; suppressed stories of child abuse, the alleged killer who can't remember his climbs, the final explanation of an accidental death and a deliberate cover up. It ends with the central character (played by Alexandra Roach, who sadly stuggles in the role) concluding that everyone has their own truth, a platitude that could be applied to almost any story. I've seen worse television, but it feels like drama-by-numbers.

If you have ever watched and loved Hinterland and Hidden as much as I did, this is the show for you.

Slow burn - did he/didn't he with a phenomenal pay off from all the cast involved.

The characters are totally believable, the scenery amazing and an full talented cast to fully pull you into the story so you also believe you are in Wales.

Honestly, the best series I have watched in such a long time. And I would not have regretted watching in the Welsh language version too. Had the same enticing grip as many scandic noirs.

A brilliant series, well acted out with a great storyline. Absolutely recommend.

Living in Sweden now it was a pleasure to see my old home town and surrounding areas. But that's not what counts, yes it was a little slow and could have had 4 episodes perhaps, yes it was depressing but its not meant to be comedy. From the off it was obvious Joe was not the killer. Shame that the actor didn't get a more powerful role to play but hey, It's Ramsay Bolton here, don't mess with him. In all a surprise killer a bit of a nuisance mum but welsh noir is what it is, isn't it!! Great scenery and good acting. Remember Hinterland, depressing but good and the main reason I took my swedish wife on a big tour of Wales north to South. You either like this series or you don't.

An interesting premise, but failed to engage for a number of reasons. Let me start by saying I think highly of Joanna Scanlan and Alexandra Roach and loved them in No Offence.

The first thing that was highly predictable was the falling for the boss, played by Ben Bailey Smith (who incidentally couldn't act and would be best placed to play parlour charades). Secondly the camera angles were obscure and a little too honed such that the widen potential was lost.

Acting was poor in general, save the two ladies mentioned earlier. The plot was ridiculous - "If I'd know you go after him I wouldn't have given you his address" (or something similar) - what would you expect to happen when you give the address of the man who murdered the daughter of a grieving mother - maybe she may buy him a welcome back box of chocolates.

This could have been a great series. The countryside and wider views wonderful. The experienced actors and actresses, but someone, somewhere went wrong and in the end, in my book, a realistic 4 stars for some less than mediocre.

This started ok and got worse. It would have been greatly improved by not dragging it out for six episodes. The final episode seemed mostly about playing the violin and the characters looking at each other with different eyebrow positions.

What lets it down is the lack of subtlety and totally unbelievable plot. The last episode, oh goodness... So two girls have a fight. One gets stabbed, and pushes the other. As she falls, she hits her head and is fatally wounded. All of those six episodes because of that?!!! It would be very difficult, particularly with a defendant of 15 years old, to make a case for murder. It was a tragic accident. The whole premise of the series was mum needed to bury her daughter, yet the body eventually seemed to be inexplicably buried under the swing (eh? Why? How?) and we fast forwarded through all of that. And how would Wyn have known that Joe would develop this convenient amnesia?! All Joe had to do was tell the police why Ela had gone to the caravan to argue with him and there we are. Police visit, see the freshly dug ground by the swing... But no. Joe can't remember any of that. He only remembers pushing her.

With such a talented cast this had potential to be something engaging and clever but they seem to have spent more on the violins than the writing. The setting was beautiful though.
