No Tell motel, holiday Inn... Even rapper's wouldn't find delight in this mess
movieman_kev20 October 2012
Typical horror film that has a group of 'teens' who wander into an old dilapidated motel after their RV breaks down. But this particular motel houses the spirit of a young tyke who was run over by accident while petting a bunny in the middle of the road. Apparently she's very angry at the dumb way she slipped off this mortal coil and this gang of walking stereotypes is about to pay the price.

Nothing new to see here which could be forgiven for a movie of its type, if it did its well- tread routine with panache or even if the kills were memorable, alas this is simply not the case. No Tell should've been a No Filmed and saved the viewers wasted time and the actors a chance to do something better.

No Tell? No problem, I am sure no one will hear about this...
paul_haakonsen17 January 2013
I must admit that the poster/cover for "No Tell Motel" did catch my attention and it was what made me sit down to watch it. Although now I really wish I hadn't. This movie was a complete waste of time in my opinion.

The story is not really particularly great, and it lacks appeal and lacks the ability to captivate the audience. The story seems to be forced together by odd bits and pieces, mixed together with a ghostly little girl. The storyline is somewhat skittish and jumpy, which doesn't really work out to anyone's favor.

As for the characters, well I will say that they were one-dimensional and lacking personality and any kind of magnetism to make you really care about them. They are too generic and shallow, which makes you just shrug on the shoulders whenever something happens to them in the movie. I am sure that the various actors and actresses are good enough on their own accounts, but the characters they had to work with in this movie did them no justice.

Scary moments? Well you have to look long and far for them in this movie, because there weren't any. And as a matter of fact, there were even close to nothing thrilling in the movie as well. "No Tell Motel" is a fairly tame experience for a horror movie, and there are far better ghost movies out there for your viewing pleasure.

"No Tell Motel" was somewhat of a struggle to get through, and more than once I found my attention drifting else where and my eyelids growing surprisingly heavy. This is not really worth the time or effort, unless you have absolutely nothing else to watch, or if you are a hardcore fan of someone on the cast list.

Generic B-Horror Film All the Way
3xHCCH3 July 2013
This film was re-titled "Haunted Motel" when it was shown in local theaters. This actually was already a warning that this is going to be one lousy film. I should have taken that warning.

"Haunted Motel" starts with a tragic accident when a little girl was suddenly run over by a speeding car. Her shocked parents could do nothing but helplessly wail by the roadside in front of their motel (called the Round the Bend Motel). This scene shot in dramatic sepia is the best of the whole film (worth a star on its own). Everything else fell to pieces after that.

Several years later, a group of five young people meet a car accident and were forced to spend the night at an abandoned roadside motel. And, as all horror films of this type go, we see the members of the group get killed off one by one, apparently by a ghostly little girl. Of course, the explanations come at the end, but by that time, you don't even care if you completely get it or not.

During all this time, we get a convoluted and confusing sequence of inexplicable events, told with absolutely no sense of dread or terror at all. Even the ghostly little Angela looked so pasty and fake, you don't really get scared by her. All the characters (a drug addict, a masochist, a rapist, a pregnant teen and her clueless friend) were very thanklessly unlikable, and the actors portraying them did not exactly rise above mediocrity of the material.

This is a generic B-horror film all the way. No redeeming factors either in the story, technical or in the acting departments. This is tolerable only if you have nothing else to watch, but keep your expectations real low.

Can I Vote 0?

Warning: Spoilers
It was hard to figure out where to begin with this review. I wasn't sure whether I should talk about the bad acting first or perhaps the camera angles and bad lighting. I think I'll start with the confusing storyline. I'm still not positive why things happened the way that they did. Why did Angela want a brother so bad when she already had one? Why was Megan going to be Angela's new mommy when her baby was "going to be" Angela's brother's child? The characters did what they did because it made the plot move forward, for no other reason.

The camera angles quite frankly sucked. I didn't know what was going on half the time. It was much too dark and, combined with the confusing storyline, I feel like I didn't catch most of the movie. The acting? There were maybe two of them who acted decently. I feel like somebody picked up a bad student film and accidentally released it instead of a movie that they meant to release. It looked like a parody. I'm still wondering if it was. The characters were EXTRAORDINARILY unlikeable and they had no connection. I was cheering when they died one by one and they deserved it for their stupidity. Their dirty little secrets were stupid and even the main plot was fairly predictable. Why were they even out there anyway? They obviously hated each other.

There were maybe a couple creepy scenes but the whole thing was mostly just annoying, not scary at all. I'd like to think of something that this movie had going for it but it didn't. Perhaps, in the beginning, they had some good ideas but they tried to combine too many and it turned out very badly. Save your money, even if it's just a dollar from Redbox. Save your time. I would give this zero stars if I could.

How do you spell out that sound where you draw in air through your teeth as if you're looking at something that hurts? Ffffff? Because that's kind of the title I was looking for for this review.

Yes, I did think it was that horrible. This was the sort of movie where, after I was done watching, I was pretty sure that I'd just seen the worst movie out of all the ones I've ever seen (that's probably overstating it, but as I seem to have actually blocked out any worse movies from my memory to live in peaceful ignorance, it's all I've got). It's definitely in my 'Top 3 Worst Movies' and it's the 'So bad it's horrible' kind.

So, what was wrong with it?

Well, for one, this was pretty generic both in the way it starts out and the ideas behind it - 'ideas' because this seems to be two generic horror plots mashed together to form one big pile of generic-feeling goo. Generically. Blending ideas can provide exciting new twists and improve the product but not for this bad boy.

For two, it seemed to have trouble finding it's angle. It wasn't really a super slashy flick, it wasn't psychological, it wasn't really anything - just 'blah' (though, on a related note, it seemed the characters didn't have the same problem of finding a type - they were all the classic stereotypes).

Three: THE ACTING. Dear Universe, it was so bad that even I could tell it was bad - and that's how you KNOW you're in trouble.

And lastly, the script. It wasn't a good script, don't let anybody fool you. Some of the things the characters say just baffled me throughout it - whether it was super-over-expositioning something or saying something that just really didn't seem like it fit in the movie at all. Just bad.

Really, a rating of 3< is REALLY generous for this movie.

GROW A PAIR. IT WILL BE FUN
nogodnomasters24 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film has a rather smart plot, but poor execution. The beginning of the film shows us little Angela (Rileigh Chalmers) getting hit by a truck some years ago. A group of young adults are forced to stay at the abandoned motel where her parents lived and the incident took place. There isn't much character build up prior to them getting to this point.

The motel, as you may have guessed, is haunted and has its secrets as do the young adults. The film reminded me of "Seven Deadly Sins" where guests succumb to their own device based on their sin. In this film the secret possessed by each character is reflective of an aspect of the live of the demised owners, which in turn plays a role in their fate. Yes, very clever indeed except in spite of that, the film just doesn't grab you. The production misses on the mediocre acting, bad direction, and lack of clever dialouge.

The film does teach us lessons in life such as: Don't play in the middle of the road or don't take pills out of a dirty commode. Not a keeper, and should be a long way down on any rental list. I overrated the film due to the smartness of the plot.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex. No nudity. Chalie Howes in panties.

Horrible!!
athnight17 April 2013
Anyone who says this is a film worth a rating above 2 was either paid to write that or is a producer in disguise. This film is beyond Horrible. The directing is nonexistent. The acting is nonunion for a reason--no one can act. The writing...well, you get what you paid for and they paid nothing. The producers are as bad as the film for a reason. At the AFM Screening for this show, it is reported that everyone walked out of it--for good reason. It's a mess from top to bottom, if you actually stay around that long, which I was unable to do. Don't even think of seeing this film, If you need to spend your money that badly, give to a homeless person. At least you've done something good that you can feel better about.

No Tell Motel in a Nutshell
twisted0718 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
*** This review may contain spoilers ***

"No Tell Motel" is a classic horror movie about young teens getting stranded on the beaten path. Director Brett Donowho takes the mix of careless teens that are out for adventure, and places them in a haunted abandoned motel. Unsuspecting to them at first, they are soon plagued by the ghosts that haunt the motel.

Donowho creates depth in each character by giving some back story through the movie. From an ex-jock troubled with a drug addiction to a girl hiding her newly found pregnancy from her lover. I had initially believed that this was only to create "likeability" or a way to connect to the characters, but the back story becomes the baseline of the "twist" that was later revealed in the movie.

The film is set in modern times and of course as with any horror movie, implicitly cellphone reception was no where to be found. This is where this movie had its faults. In some parts of the movie, you have read the subtle hints. The acting also seemed very cut and dry. The dialog was very laid back and some parts even seem impromptu. At certain points of the movie I found myself saying, "Wait, where's the emotion? Didn't their friend just die?" The director also fails in my book by just rushing from scene to scene. From teen to teen, it seemed like a crash course to get them out of the way.

"No Tell Motel" lacks in acting and development of the characters. The "scream factor" is there with its dark and confined situations. At certain points of the movie, I did pull towards the edge of my couch, but not too often. The camera angels where pretty straight forward and dead on to the actors. There where no noticeable signature shots that jumped out such as low angels, close-ups, and panning. And the music and ambiance really just relied on the silent creeks and crashes that where meant to startle the viewer. The story overall is just a regurgitation of a horror baseline with a different twist. This movie almost reminded me of a hybrid of the movie Wrong Turn.

Deserves a better rating
davidfurlotte17 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a pretty straightforward horror flick but does tell a pretty good story about a dysfunctional family of ghosts.

Once the thing stops rolling you have ample opportunity to be able to pick apart a couple of plot holes but there are not as many as one might think.

Firstly, the acting in this movie was actually better than I anticipated which was refreshing for a change. Usually horror flicks with teenage actors or actors purporting to be teenagers tends to be over the top, but that was not the case and the lead actress in this movie improved as the movie progressed. Although some of the others died early in the movie, they were credible and in a way I wish they had a little more screen time. They managed to do what I think good actors in this genre strive for; that is they made us feel for them when they got killed.

The writing was pretty strong for this and did manage to tie the whole thing together by the end with a couple of pretty interesting plot twists although I'm pretty sure that most people will figure out a few of them before they are revealed.

Overall, this is an entertaining movie but it won't make you jump out of your skin nor will it have you sleeping with the lights on. I honestly think it deserves at least a solid 6 but to try and elevate it a little, I'm giving it an 8 because it surely doesn't deserve as low a rating as 3.5.

Finally, in other words, if you like this particular type of movie, I recommend you watch it and enjoy because it will be worth your time.

Heavily flawed haunting film with some nice moments
kannibalcorpsegrinder18 April 2014
Getting stranded at a roadside motel, a group of friends find themselves trapped in the area by a gang of ghosts looking to change the fortunes of how they died and must find a way of stopping it from happening.

This is an overall run-of-the-mill ghost film that really doesn't offer too much one way or another about providing good parts or bad. The fact that the whole film barely offers up any kind of rational explanation for what's going on really mar this one because it's the one that does the most damage to what's going on here. The brief running time, itself a problem on numerous levels, never gives us a change to get fully invested in anything or even a chance to develop any sort of coherent storyline between what's happening and who these people are that have stumbled onto the secret, haunted location. It's only in the final, closing minutes that something resembling an explanation is offered for why everything's going on and it's tacky, hokey and completely unrealistic in many ways, offering one of the wackiest and most nonsensical explanations ever for what kind of haunting story this really is. The fact that there's so little time to work through things and just spends so much time on them wandering around the hotel itself in their own little groups with their own problems is somewhat boring and infuriating to sit through, and all of these go right back to the film never offering up a lot of explanations about what's going on in here. There's some bright spots, though, with the fact that the opening explanation for why the particular locale is haunted does make some rather chilling moments than what would be expected in such a film as this, and it leads into the explanation rather nicely as it is. As well, there's a few rather intense scares throughout this one as the hauntings come at quite unexpected times and allow for a few chilling surprises to come out. While not entirely flawed, this one does have enough to lower it from it's supposed strengths.

Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, children-in-jeopardy, heavy drug use and Rape.

No Scares Motel
natashabowiepinky26 September 2013
There's a line in one of my favourite films called Ratatouille (though I feel I'm soiling it by even bringing it up here) that tells us Anyone Can Cook... even a rodent. Well, anyone can make a horror film... even an idiot. But that doesn't mean they should. Especially one devoid of scares, where the dumb people barely react when their 'friends' bite the bullet, and when the 'twist' is like, the stupidest thing EVER in the history of mankind. And yes, we all know little girls who just stand there staring at you saying nothing, are naturally creepy, but overuse this formula and you're liable to be accused of lacking ideas. The dude behind the camera here hasn't got an original thought in his noggin.

It's not big, it's not clever and it certainly isn't the least bit enjoyable. F's all round, and back to film school for you, Mr Wannabe. Sometimes, I think it would be easier to teach a cat to fetch than make a decent scary movie... 3/1

Do Tell Motel
wsmith-2627 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I knew this movie was going in the wrong direction when the driver of the motorhome takes the shortcut and then, for absolutely no reason, goes way too fast until...... yes, the motorhome crashes and the five young occupants have to take shelter in the broken down motel. I'm sorry folks, but believe it or not it just goes downhill from there. There is nothing new here, nor is there anything to make note of in this movie. It is just there. It is a movie. That is all I can say. So, if your only criteria for entertainment for the evening is that it be a movie, then this one qualifies! Otherwise, you can go to the dairy and see how milk is made and have a much better time.

An OK Horror Flick
herbrarnold4 April 2021
"No Tell Motel" was an average horror flick. It starts out with the establishment of the urban legend ghost girl in a motel. A group of friends are traveling through the area when they have an accident flipping their RV. With no help in site, they are forced to inhabit a creepy abandoned hotel for the night. As ghostly accidents ensue, and the crazy back story pieces itself together, it will keep your interest. It just doesn't capture a level of skillful suspense, but does bring forth some unsettling elements. The young actress who portrayed the ghost was very good. Come into this with low expectations, and you may be entertained by it short running time of 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Worst horror film I've seen to date
kerryhill12316 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, what can I say about 'No Tell Motel' apart from the fact it is absolutely awful. It follows a group of teenagers on a road trip (unoriginal) who somehow manage to flip their RV over through just having a simple argument. They conveniently stop by an abandoned motel they then find out later is haunted.

I have numerous problems with this film, first and foremost, the horrific acting. None of it was believable, the arguments looked fake and down right cheesy. The most notorious one being when the blonde girl Megan Walsh says 'it's settled, we're staying' at this point,I just laughed because it sounded utterly ridiculous. Nothing was ever properly explained and random things just seemed to be thrown in and we never actually find out what significance they have to the narrative, if they have any at all. One example of this would be when the 'boyfriend' i'm guessing? since its never actually solidified he is, takes some sort of drug that we are never informed on what it is so we are left wondering what the hell he's been taking and he randomly pulls a gun out of no where. where exactly did he get that from? we don't know, and we never find out!

the narrative was extremely badly written, nothing made sense and nothing had any relevance. It takes all the expected horror movie traits and makes them worse than they could possibly be. If anything, I actually found this movie quite humorous especially when Megan's friend get hit by a car. She is laying there dead in the road, blood coming out of her head, they run over and couldn't look less surprised. either she wasn't a very good friend or the actors evidently didn't know how a group of whiny teenagers should react to the death of their friend. What really made me laugh is the fact they completely dismissed her death, left her dead in the road and brought the guy that hit her into the motel. A total stranger that they didn't know? I also don't think running over a girl's head would make you crash so severely that you're knocked out and bleeding. For the rest of the film, there's no mention of her!

The film overall was predictable as hell and I couldn't possibly list all the things that annoyed me about it. I found it really difficult to watch it till the end since I was just so bored, I stopped paying it so much attention after about 30 minutes. Despite the fact I should probably write something positive about it, I'm finding it really hard to pick out anything I liked, I guess the cinematography wasn't too bad.

my advice for anyone thinking about watching this is, don't. And for the life of you do not pay money for it, if you want to laugh at the expense of terrible film making go ahead. But if you're looking for scares, don't bother, you wont find any here.

No really worth of a reveiw. I also try to think of one or gold things a movie does. Maybe the title here? Really is a pretty poor movie, how poor I'm not excatly sure. Ever character is hateable and honestly the ending is somewhat cringy. Not sure how it could of been better? Should of ripped up the script.

Warning: Spoilers
5 screwed up friends decide to have a fun weekend in an RV, only for their drug addicted friend to crash. Stranding them in a haunted abandoned motel in the middle of nowhere. This film is a craptacular spectacle of bad acting and writing. How can these people call each other friends? Someone decided write a movie about secrets being reveiled, only to forget it has to be realistic that these people would actually like each other. When one of their friends die, the have the most nonchalant reaction. If the basis of a script is stupid then the movie is going to be stupid. I guess the secret of making a good movie was lost on a who was involved.

no see movie
amymay-6991611 October 2023
This movie had no purpose,no scares, plot holes bigger than martian craters, and a cast that couldn't act their way out of a wet origami bag made of bathroom tissue. Why the actual events of the past literally, interactively, played out in front of the characters is a mystery, and not even one that is interesting enough to want to solve. The characters were all "terrible people" except for our token girl-next-door,naive sweetheart, who was so saccharine you wanted her to die anyway. Little ghost girl needs company, but why couldn't her parents keep her company? They were dead too. Skip this one. It's too late for me,but you still have a chance to avoid this trainwreck.

Well done!
alonsousky9 October 2012
Just watched No Tell Motel on Netflix and it was the best scary movie I have seen in a long time. Shocking moving, as it jolts you out of your seat in fear. Brett Donowho did a great job directing this feature film, which carries an original premises about a group a young campers who, when traveling together on a long weekend to have some fun and get a little crazy, fall victim to the haunting of a cursed hotel. The cast gives a great performance, especially the beautiful Angel McCord. The turn of events is unexpected (which is a nice change to recent, predictable 'scary' movies that have been released). The entire film has you on the edge of your seat in suspense, and at many times uncomfortably wondering what will happen next. The film has many chilling moments, and the ultimate scary movie for viewers looking for a thrill. Really impressed with the release date being in October, it was the perfect timing for another Halloween. moments. A definite must-see. Plus, there are some hot ladies in! Nice job.

I should have had an early night instead.
BA_Harrison25 April 2023
No Tell Motel was directed by Brett Donowho. Donowho that is? That's not surprising if this is the kind of lamentable horror dreck he is turning out.

The film sees a group of teens/twenty-somethings spending the night at a derelict motel after they crash their RV, unaware that the place has a dark history and is haunted by a little girl who was run down while petting a rabbit in the middle of the road. In standard horror fashion, the friends begin to die one by one, but not before we discover their dirty little secrets: hit and run, attempted suicide, drug addiction and rape.

Thoroughly unlikeable characters, zero suspense, a rubbish ghost (little girl with face paint), lame deaths, and a nonsensical plot all go to make this movie a pain to sit through. There's not even any decent jump scares or gratuitous nudity to break up the tedium. This is the kind of rubbish I seem to watch only after I've spent the best part of an hour scrolling through equally dire movies on Amazon -- a choice borne of desperation that ultimately reminds me that it's sometimes best not to watch anything at all.

Who to blame
info-254-61744221 July 2013
Definitely the worst horror movie of the year i have seen.. Not only the script but the acting and plot it was all too predictable.. I also feel bad for the actors. But what i mostly did not like was that movie theaters do play these movies. It feels like you are being ripped off. Lately i see a lot more of movies from where i wonder why do they play these movies. Is it because they can buy these movies for less money and makeup for some losses? Because i bought a ticket i cannot return. Anyway this movie does not belong in the theater..

However sometimes i am happy they still make these kind of movies because than i know that there is still hope for me and my movies.

Any way thank you for listening - i will for sure recommend this movie as a "bad movie". I hope the director will do well next time.

Idk what made me turn this on, but man, it flat out sucked. Nothing new at all and way too predictable. The ending just puts the icing on the cake to a flick that should've remained locked in a closet. I'd rather watch 2 turtles cross a football field.
