There will be spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" Episode 1 "The Path of Fear," so beware.
"Star Wars: Tales of the Empire" (watch the trailer here) is the follow-up to the animated "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" shorts from 2022. The initial series followed Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano through formative moments and turning points in their lives. This iteration of the show brings us a look at Morgan Elsbeth, a relatively new character introduced in the second season of "The Mandalorian" and Barris Offee, the Jedi Padawan who betrayed Ahsoka Tano on "The Clone Wars" and framed her for murder.
The very first episode takes us back to "The Clone Wars," in the midst of a battle we've seen before on the planet Dathomir. During "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," the Witches of Dathomir played a vital part, as did Dooku's former Sith assassin, Asajj Ventress. But thanks to revelations in "Ahsoka,...

Review: While fans have been somewhat divided over the live-action offerings in the Disney era of Star Wars, we can all agree that the animated projects have been fantastic. Following the 2022 series Tales of the Jedi, the latest series again gives us a bite-sized limited series focusing on secondary characters in the Star Wars canon. Star Wars: Tales of the Empire releases on May 4, 2024.
The Lucasfilm dive into Dave Filoni‘s most cherished characters has frustrated some fans. Many loved Ahsoka and the relaunch of Clone Wars adjacent shows. However, others have grown weary of over-using these characters, specifically if they do not have prior knowledge. In many ways, Tales of Empire exists because of the hardcore fans who love Clone Wars and Rebels-era characters. However, the expanding universe has paid dividends already, with greenlit shows and movies based on characters Filoni created from scratch, or co-created.
Yet the question about including more Filoni characters has become a hot-button issue in the fandom. Unlike Tales of the Jedi, this series focuses on more obscure figures within the larger Star Wars canon. Without having seen Ahsoka or deep into Clone Wars, you might never have seen these figures. The results have been inconsistent – providing a backstory...

One of the best and most devastating moments in "Star Wars" is Order 66 in "Revenge of the Sith." To close out the Clone Wars, the clone troopers that have fought beside the Jedi turn and shoot their commanders in the back, on orders from Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.
The most memorable death is Jedi Aayla Secura on the jungle planet Felucia, shot in the back by Clone Commander Bly and his brothers-in-arms. In one draft of the script (but not the finished film), Aayla is scouting for enemy droids and asking Bly for his input before he shoots, emphasizing her being taken by surprise. The Felucia scene would also feature Bly and the clones fragging Jedi Barriss Offee, but this was deleted, so the "Clone Wars" and "Tales of the Jedi" cartoons took that character in another direction.
That wasn't the only change to the scene. You see, in "Revenge of the Sith,...

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want it right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. A second season of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi was first announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, and fans have since been eager to see which characters this season’s installments would be about. Would we see more stories from Ahsoka and Count Dooku, or different characters entirely? Nearly a year after it was first announced, we have a first look at the new season, now named Tales of the Empire.
Tales of the Empire will focus on the stories of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka’s Lady Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) and, to the delight of many, former Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger), who was last seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The first trailer for Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Tales of the Empire has dropped. The new animated series for Disney+ teases many characters, including the return of a fan favorite.
Star Wars is returning to when the Empire ruled the galaxy with an iron fist. What few Jedi are left are hunted or converted by the Grand Inquisitor. Elsewhere, new villains are forged by the fires ignited by the Separatists during the Clone Wars.
Ok, I’m somewhat interested. Barriss Offee’s storyline is finally being expanded. The last we saw of the former Jedi was when she was being dragged off to prison for her crimes and betrayal of the Order.
However, the biggest thing that caught my attention was the return of General Grievous. The character’s strongest appearance in Star Wars media was always in projects outside of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

As Yoda himself once said, "Always two there are, no more, no less… A master and an apprentice." That might now apply to animated anthologies that tie into other in-universe Star Wars stories, because following 2022's Tales Of The Jedi, we now have its dark twin, Tales Of The Empire. Check out the trailer for the new series:
Created and written once again by Dave Filoni (who also serves as supervising director), this, as the title might lead you to believe, features stories from the point of view of the Galactic Empire. We follow two warriors on divergent paths in different eras. One, Morgan Elsbeth channels the loss of everything and everyone she loves into a seething anger that offers the Imperial forces (especially Lars Mikkelsen's Thrawn) something they can exploit.
There is also former Jedi Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger) who is forced to do whatever it takes to survive a rapidly changing galaxy.

There are two sides to every story, but nothing is ever really black and white, good versus evil, or even Jedi versus Empire.

Disney+ animated series “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire,” the follow-up to 2022’s “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,” centers on the rise of the Galactic Empire. The six-episode show follows two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras: After losing everything, young Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) navigates the expanding Imperial world toward a path of vengeance, per the official synopsis, while former Jedi Barriss Offee (Meredith Salenger) does what she must to survive a rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.

Lucasfilm has revealed the first teaser trailer for "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire." Though not exactly a season 2, per se, this serves as a follow-up to 2022's acclaimed "Tales of the Jedi." That show was a series of animated shorts that focused on two interwoven tales of Jedi at crucial times in their development, namely Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku before he fell to the dark side. Similarly, this new series will be focusing on two different figures within the Empire: Morgan Elsbeth and former Jedi Barriss Offee. Check it out for yourself above.
This trailer offers a lot for hardcore "Star Wars" fans to dig into. We're going to be learning a lot more about Morgan Elsbeth, who fans of "Ahsoka" will be familiar with. We're also going to get more of Grand Admiral Thrawn in his younger years. Meanwhile, "Clone Wars" and prequel fans are going to dive deeper with Barriss Offee,...

It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.
In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

Despite our best predictions with our 2024 TV preview, perhaps a little on the early side, when Disney finally revealed its 2024 Disney+ slate, in spite of four Lucasfilm projects on the docket for this year, Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” starring Diego Luna wasn’t one of them. Instead, Disney promised Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte,” seemingly scheduled for June of this year, Jon Watts’ “Skeleton Crew,” plus “The Bad Batch,” which just finished up season three, and “Tales Of The Jedi” season two.

"Star Wars" has one of the vastest universes in fiction -- one that is ever expanding, incredibly detailed, and fleshed-out, in addition to feeling lived-in. The thing that makes this franchise and fictional universe unique is that unlike Tolkien's Legendarium, or, say, the "One Piece" world, "Star Wars" is far from the work of a single person, or even a single team.
The "Star Wars" universe has grown and expanded piece by piece over nearly 50 years, with new artists coming in and building on the surprising success of George Lucas' original 1977 film. The original trilogy introduced a fleshed-out world with a long history that was barely hinted at, with places, people, and concepts that other writers in what was known as the Expanded Universe (now Legends) could expand on and explain. Of course, we've seen many elements from the Expanded Universe become part of the post-Disney canon in recent years,...

"Star Wars," much like the superhero genre, thrives in animation. It is in this medium that the potential for storytelling of the galaxy far, far away truly becomes apparent. Whether it is the larger-than-life feats of power of Genndy Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" micro-series, the expansive worldbuilding and cinematic visuals of "The Clone Wars," or the explosion of varied visuals and stories bringing different cultures to the franchise in "Star Wars: Visions," animation can bring out the best in "Star Wars."
After helping create "The Clone Wars," "Rebels," and "Tales of the Jedi," Dave Filoni helped give us the first "Star Wars" series centered squarely on the faceless guys that fought alongside the Jedi (and eventually betrayed them) with the war thriller "The Bad Batch." After three seasons of exploring how the clone army of the Republic became the poor-sighted stormtroopers, as well as planting the seeds for Palpatine's obsession with cloning,...

The state of the Star Wars franchise in cinemas remains a bit unclear. Earlier this month, Lucasfilm announced The Mandalorian & Grogu, a movie to be directed by Jon Favreau based on the popular Disney+ series and that will set our lovable father and son duo on a brand-new adventure. It’s being fast-tracked into production this year, which suggests it’ll be the first new Star Wars movie to come out since The Rise of Skywalker bowed in Dec. 2019.
Interestingly, before that surprise announcement last week, it really seemed like the first movie on Lucasfilm’s docket was the untitled Rey movie, which is set to pick up 15 years after the events of the Sequel Trilogy. It’ll bring back Daisy Ridley to the galaxy far, far away to “build the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her,” as...

Ever since George Lucas started making "Star Wars" movies, fans have found ways to complain about the franchise's main characters. From saying Luke was too whiny in the first film to hating on Anakin (both young and grown-up) to becoming the absolute worst when Rey was introduced, the biggest constant in "Star Wars" has always been fan complaints. Of course, this also applies to animation and Ahsoka Tano.
"The Clone Wars" remains one of the most important pieces of "Star Wars" media ever. It expanded the franchise to animation in a major way beyond just mini-series, actually building on the movies and telling its own stories rather than just acting as an advertisement for the next film. It also introduced many fan-favorite characters and changed our understanding of the Force and the "Star Wars" universe at large. It was a show so good it made George Lucas want to be...

The MCU’s performance in 2023 fell short of expectations, marked by a string of releases, where only ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and ‘Loki’ Season 2 achieved success. Other projects faced setbacks, with ‘Secret Invasion’ emerging as one of the least well-received MCU shows to date. ‘The Marvels’ claimed undesirable records such as the lowest domestic box office and the sharpest second-weekend drop in revenue.
Despite these challenges, the MCU perseveres. Bob Iger emphasized the importance of prioritizing quality over quantity for Marvel. Surprisingly, despite numerous project announcements in recent months, the slated releases for 2024 include just one movie and five shows.

2023 wasn’t all that good for the MCU; over the course of the year, several movies and shows have been released, with only ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and ‘Loki’ Season 2 being successful. The rest of the projects flopped, with ‘Secret Invasion’ being one of the worst MCU shows in recent times and ‘The Marvels’ claiming all the bad records like the lowest domestic box office and lowest 2nd-weekend drop in revenue.
Still, the MCU continues, and Bob Iger himself commented that Marvel should focus on quality over quantity. Considering how many new projects have been announced in the last few months, it’s surprising to see only one movie and five shows releasing in 2024.

There's a long-running tradition in "Star Wars" to improve upon elements and characters within the universe that weren't exactly well received when they were first introduced. Famously, Ahsoka Tano was vastly unpopular when she debuted as Anakin's feisty young apprentice in "The Clone Wars" movie. Since then, Dave Filoni has made her one of the most beloved figures in all of "Star Wars."
When Yaddle was first seen sitting on the Jedi Council in "The Phantom Menace," her presence was largely distracting and her appearance immediately became the focus of more than a few jokes when George Lucas' first entry into the prequel trilogy hit theaters. Although Yaddle did actually speak in a deleted scene, the theatrical release only shows her looking on quietly with lifeless puppet eyes that honestly make her look like she's been puffing on a little rankweed in between meetings. Leave it to Filoni, however, to...

Today, Ashley Eckstein is known for voicing one of the most popular "Star Wars" characters of the 21st century: Ahsoka Tano. The performer, who has won praise and recognition for her turn as the Togruta Jedi turned Rebel, surprised audiences when she made her debut in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." She quickly proved herself capable of not just kicking major butt in the "Star Wars" universe but also of being great enough to slip into existing canon without alienating picky fans of the original and prequel trilogies.
Since Ahsoka's introduction, she's become a massively popular character, starring in "Star Wars Rebels" and "Tales of the Jedi" and making the leap to live action, with Rosario Dawson putting on the head tails to embody the character. Ahsoka wasn't always embraced by "Star Wars" fans, though. In an interview Eckstein gave to Vanity Fair in 2020, the actor revealed that reactions...

After the "Star Wars" prequel films, we could have called it a day for the franchise. Instead, we got a film and a series about a character named Ahsoka Tano (voice of Ashley Eckstein), who has become a fan favorite. So much so that she made several TV series cameos and got her own live-action Disney+ series with Rosario Dawson taking over the role. The young Togruta woman who apprenticed with Anakin Skywalker before his fall to the dark side first appeared in the animated film "The Clone Wars," which served as the beginning of the animated series of the same name.

Since the turn of the century, one thing remains a highly-debated topic: What is the best order in which to watch Star Wars? Prequels, sequels, originals, standalones — the answer grows more complicated as the years go by, and anyone loyal to their specific method won’t hear otherwise.
The question all but falls apart when it comes to Star Wars TV shows, whether they’re integrated into film viewing or watched separately. Does one start chronologically, with “Droids” and “Ewoks” (best viewed in their original paired “adventure hour” format)? Should “Clone Wars” come before “The Mandalorian,” or “Rebels”? What’s the deal with “Visions” and “Tales of the Jedi,” and is the Boba Fett show actually good? (No.)

This post contains spoilers for episode 7 of "Ahsoka," "Dreams and Madness."
"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack," Master Yoda advises a young Luke Skywalker in "The Empire Strikes Back." This line seems to be the foundation for the reason why the Jedi do not use the Force to fight as often as they can, and rely on their trusty lightsabers to do the job instead. However, during exceptional circumstances, some Jedi (and Sith) have relied upon a somewhat unique hand-to-hand force combat style to ward off foes. In the latest episode of "Ahsoka," Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) uses a similar combat style, relying solely on the Force to fend off an attack on his Noti friends, while Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) promptly takes the enemies down with her blaster and lightsaber.

When Ahsoka Tano was first introduced, she served as our eyes and ears in the "Star Wars" universe, the audience surrogate for this new chapter of the story, like Luke before her, or like Ezra Bridger in "Star Wars Rebels" and Rey in the new trilogy. Just as audiences grew up watching the show, they watched Ahsoka grow up before their eyes, going from hotheaded Padawan to one of the most powerful and wise Jedi ever.
It makes sense, then, that she would finally get her own TV show with the eponymous "Ahsoka," as Dave Filoni takes the character he co-created and brings her to the foreground in yet another galactic conflict. The show has been walking a fine line between being a standalone story and a continuation of several stories. The ever-expanding Star Wars canon timeline can be hard to keep track of, especially as movies, TV series, and video games continue to intersect and bring back familiar characters from different eras. For example, Ahsoka, the main character of the new Disney+ series of the same name, has been a part of many major Star Wars events over the years, appearing in several shows that take place across different eras in the Galaxy’s history.

While Andor takes place before the Death Star is destroyed, the latest Star Wars spinoff series, Ahsoka, focuses on the New Republic after the fall of the Galactic Empire.
Rosario Dawson plays Ahsoka Tano, a former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker who walks away from the order after the Clone Wars. After cameos in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the former Jedi Knight investigates a rising threat in the new Disney+ original series.
Created by Dave Filoni, Ahsoka takes place during the same time period as The Mandalorian and also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Ahsoka’s former apprentice, Sabine Wren; Mary Elizabeth Winstead as General Hera Syndulla; the late Ray Stevenson as the Force-wielding mercenary Baylan Skroll; Ivanna Sakhno as Baylan’s brooding apprentice, Shin Hati; Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth; David Tennant and Lars Mikkelsen as the villain Grand Admiral Thrawn.

All hail Ahsoka! The young Jedi (voiced by Ashley Eckstein) first appeared in "The Clone Wars" to mixed reactions from "Star Wars" fans. Since then, however, she has grown into a popular character in George Lucas' sprawling franchise, so much so that she's received her own Disney+ TV series starring Rosario Dawson in the role. Her close relationship with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi ensures she is never too far from essential moments seen on "The Clone Wars" and other TV shows like "Star Wars Rebels," "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," and "Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventures."
With so many appearances in animation, it's tough to pin down Ahsoka's best scenes. Whether it be a killer lightsaber duel or a brilliant bit of heroism, there's no shortage of incredible sequences. However, after sifting through the 100-plus episodes of "The Clone Wars," "Rebels," and others, I've landed on a list of...

Do you know that feeling where you have to constantly ask people to use your preferred pronouns or tell them how to correctly pronounce your name? Or when you simply let people who don't really know you that well call you by your legal name since you no longer have the bandwidth to keep telling everyone you go by a different name in your daily life? Or, honestly, any other variation on that theme? It's enough to make you wish you had your own Janet from "The Good Place" who could appear out of thin air and bring the world up to speed whenever needed.
One imagines Ahsoka Tano would know where you're coming from. Indeed, those unfamiliar with the world of "Star Wars" animation would be forgiven for assuming she's a Jedi if all they know her from are her live-action appearances on "The Mandalorian" and its spin-offs. Now,...

Star Wars is back on Disney+! Well, it’s about to be, with the brand new Lucasfilm series Ahsoka just days away from streaming. Ahsoka will see the return of former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) after she was last glimpsed in live-action during the second season of The Mandalorian and its spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett.
The character has a rich history in the animated Star Wars universe, having appeared in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi, but Ahsoka will give Dawson the chance to be in the spotlight for eight episodes, with the first two making their debut on Aug. 23, and weekly drops to Disney+ planned thereafter.
“This one is really taking the story on in a different way,” Dawson told Den of Geek magazine. “It’s really living with a character for such a long period of time, over several episodes.

Yaddle has always been a bit of a joke in "Star Wars." She is a character that was literally only created as a sketch for a young Yoda before being put in "The Phantom Menace" as a separate character. What's more, Yaddle is completely silent, only appearing in the background — and only speaking in a scene that got cut from the finished film. This is a shame since Yaddle has so much potential, being essentially Yoda with way better hair, especially when, in "The Phantom Menace" where Yoda somehow looks uglier and older than he looked in "Empire Strikes Back."
And yet, the very existence of another member of Yoda's species has always been fascinating to "Star Wars" fans, with the expanded universe introducing many characters of the same species that never made it to the canon, from the comics to video games like "Knights of the Old Republic." That being said,...

It's been years since we last got a "Star Wars" theatrical feature, and at this point, it is clear that the galaxy far, far away is actually right there in your living room. Whether it's animated shows like "The Bad Batch" and "Tales of the Jedi," or the mega-success of "The Mandalorian" and the creative genius of "Andor," TV has allowed the franchise to experiment with tones and different kinds of stories in ways it was never able to before.
And yet, "Star Wars" is stagnating, particularly when it comes to the Mando-Verse. "The Book of Boba Fett" was an utter disappointment, and the third season of "The Mandalorian" functioned as a mixed bag. Thankfully, "Star Wars" is soon expanding further beyond the Mando-Verse, and there is arguably no other "Star Wars" title as exciting as "The Acolyte," which promises to introduce a new time period and a new kind of "Star Wars" protagonist.
