Is Disney about to have its own “Before” series? Just as Richard Linklater’s day-in-the-life romances touch in on the lives of Celine and Jesse at different points in their lives, Amy Poehler would like to see the “Inside Out” sequels explore main character Riley’s emotions at different stages in her aging.
“I just think that they should make these films like ‘Seven Up,’ every couple of years in Riley’s life,” she said in an interview with Empire. “A young adult, and a young mother, and I think a middle-aged person — everyone’s having these very distinct new emotions that are showing up all the time.”
Speaking to IndieWire last month for a sneak peek of “Inside Out 2,” the film’s director Kelsey Mann echoed that idea of “new emotions showing up” being central to how he looked at this new chapter.
“I hated everyone looking at me,...

Of any Pixar film to sequelise, a follow-up to Inside Out makes perhaps the most inherent sense. In fact, the ending of the first film actively invites it. While a new status quo is established in Riley’s mind – with Joy and Sadness reconciled – there’s a big ‘Puberty’ button just waiting to be pressed, and a tantalising question from Amy Poehler’s Joy: “After all, Riley’s 12 now. What could happen?” The answer is, a lot. Hence, Inside Out 2 will see the influx of several new emotions in Riley’s headquarters, set to rock her world all over again – a reflection of the total upheaval that comes with adolescence.
As Poehler tells Empire, that process of emotional evolution never really ends – and her hope is that there’ll be many more Inside Out movies to come, reflecting that journey. “I just think that they should make these films like Seven Up,...

The majority of Pixar films are not to be watched without tissues. From the furnace farewell in Toy Story 3, to the ‘Married Life’ sequence in Up, to the ‘Remember Me’ scene in Coco, the studio tends to have one hand placed firmly on your tear-ducts. And that’s not to mention Inside Out, perhaps the most emotionally effective of any Pixar film. The ‘death’ of Bing Bong, the first foray through young Riley’s mind, the reconciliation of Joy and Sadness… it’s a non-stop heart-squeezer. And that’s a tough act to follow for this year’s Inside Out 2, following Riley through puberty as a raft of new emotions – chiefly Anxiety, plus Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui – come into play.
According to incoming writer Dave Holstein, the newly-developed ‘Belief System’ in Riley’s mind isn’t just a cool environment for the sequel to explore – it’s going...

Pixar's "Inside Out 2" is coming to theaters this summer, bringing back the delightful emotions at the helm of a girl named Riley as she grows up and figures out life as a teenager. The original "Inside Out" not only delivered the touching and amusing personification of the emotions that drive our everyday decisions, but they also created an innovative world that created physical representations of the inner workings of our mind, such as a literal train of thought and a massive library of past experiences that make up long term memory. So the sequel will be expanding the interior of Riley's mind, not only with new emotions, but with unexplored areas.
Of course, the arrival of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adele Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) make things much more difficult for the seasoned emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black...

Bob Iger wants you to marvel more at his Marvel films and series. To make them better, he’s making fewer.
On Tuesday, the Disney CEO said Marvel is going to decrease its volume to “probably about two TV series a year” and 2-3 movies annually.
“We’ve been working hard with the studio to reduce output and focus on quality,” Iger said on Disney’s fiscal second quarter (Q2) earnings call. “That’s particularly true with Marvel.”
“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two— a maximum of three,” he continued.
Cool, so what you got? Iger said Marvel has “a couple of good films in [2025], and then we’re heading to more ‘Avengers,’ which we’re extremely excited about.”

The Fall Guy, Universal’s romantic action comedy starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt man and Emily Blunt as a tentpole director, kicked off summer slightly below expectations on an estimated $28.5m to lead North American box office.
The film had been forecast to open in the low $30m range and Universal executives are looking at the long play and will hope it gathers momentum powered by word of mouth and an A- CinemaScore result.
Costing a reported $130m, it will need to pick up speed, just as director and former stuntman David Leitch’s previous film Bullet Train did...

Throughout the years of its existence, Pixar has repeatedly proven that its films are not only for children — with all the deep philosophical narratives and some truly heartbreaking scenes the studio’s franchises have also become favorites among the grown-ups.
And though Wall-e or Up are usually considered the saddest stories that Pixar has ever created, there’s another particular character’s storyline which sounds even more devastating — until it comes to a fan’s viral theory.
The Inside Out’s plot follows 11-year-old Riley whose inner feelings are controlled by cartoon-ish images of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust.
When Sadness accidentally brings Riley’s core memories to the light and she and Joy are driven out of the emotions’ headquarters to right the wrong, they meet Riley’s imaginary friend Bing Bong — a peculiar mix of a cat, an elephant and a dolphin made of cotton candy.

Pixar fans who have already been there for a while are aware of the company’s love for Easter eggs and small and sometimes even hardly noticeable plot details that are in fact direct references to Pixar’s other movies. The tradition entailed a great variety of fans’ theories and one of them is getting trendy thanks to some astonishing revelations.
The theory developed by Jon Negroni more than 10 years ago suggests that all the stories that Pixar has ever created — be that Up, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille or Inside Out — are actually happening within the same universe.
Negroni’s surmise has received yet another confirmation when Pixar released a brand new teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 that featured one specific element coming from the studio’s 2022’s film Turning Red.
Is Bing Bong a Monster from Monsters Inc.?
But Inside Out seems to be much more profound in terms of such intersections.

Airbnb is doing a new thing called “Icons” where they offer special locations or events. One of their offerings is a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning from ‘X-Men ’97.’ They are also doing one of the house from “Up” complete with crane lifting!

The mansion, sitting atop a hill in Westchester County, New York, could be mistaken for any number of homes in the area, save for one little, er, big, thing.
In the driveway, feet from the front door, there is the battered severed head of a giant Sentinel, one of the antagonists to the X-Men.
The house, overlooking rolling hills north of New York City, was until recently a residential home. For a few months however, Airbnb is taking it over, turning the home into a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, as featured specifically in the Marvel Animation series X-Men ’97.
That includes an interior that has been meticulously hand-painted so as to appear two-dimensional, as in the cartoon, with the bedrooms, Professor X’s office, Beast’s lab, and even a “danger room” available for guests to explore.

Say hello to sequel season.
That might as well be the nickname for this summer’s slate of potential blockbusters. Over the next four months, Hollywood is rolling out what it hopes will be a winning mix of follow-ups, reboots and spinoffs from tested franchises like “Despicable Me” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it looks to reinvigorate the shaky movie theater business.
Last summer flipped the script: New properties, such as “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” ruled, while entries in aging series, like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Mission Impossible 7,” missed the mark. The domestic box office at $2 billion currently this year is dragging 21% behind the same January-April spread last year, and when Universal’s Fall Guy commences the hot moviegoing season this Friday with a hopeful $35M, expect summer to drag some more.
That’s because the lack of product due to the actors’ strike has made a backloaded May through Labor Day frame in what will be lucky —lucky— to hit $3 billion. That’s a $1 billion less than last summer’s $4.09 billion per Comscore and -27% off. More bad news about summer: It’s not going to catch up the year any more against 2023.
Essentially, expect less and hope for more. Remember, no one saw Barbenheimer and Sound of Freedom coming last summer and that trio collectively minted $1.15 billion. If anything, summer 2024 is more about getting moviegoers back into the habit of moviegoing than breaking any records.

The upcoming sequel to Pixar’s 2015 surprise hit Inside Out is getting closer to release. After nine years, viewers get to re-enter the mind of Riley, now a teenager and experiencing new emotions that come with age. The new crew—anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment—seemingly take over her mind, and the original crew needs to take back control before things get out of hand.
When it came to deciding what new emotions would surface inside Riley’s mind, it wasn’t as simple as before. As humans age, we develop more complicated emotions, leading to more possibilities. In fact, in a recent interview with the film’s director, Kelsey Mann, they were originally going to bombard Riley with nine new emotions for a total of fourteen. But that was too much.
In a recent talk with The Wrap, Mann revealed the names of two of the emotions that didn’t make the cut.

Many fans have been looking forward to Pixar’s upcoming sequel to their 2016 film Inside Out. The idea of following a character who started as a child and slowly grows up with each new installment and seeing each new challenge that comes with age is appealing to many.
Some make the argument that Really herself isn’t actually a character and just a robot controlled by different emotions, she still acts as a vehicle to explore the concepts of growing up. The execution of those ideas remains to be seen.
While we seem to have a general idea of what to expect, the new character Anxiety seems to be the head of the new emotions, sort of like a ring leader, as well as the main antagonist. The topic of teenage anxiety seems to be at the core of the story, with the director of photography, Adam Habib, stating the...

Forget trailer debuts during football game halftimes or shown through “Fortnite,” the next frontier of debuting movie trailers is watching it on a screen that happens to be orbiting the Earth.
The first trailer for “Transformers One,” Paramount Animation and Hasbro’s animated “Transformers” origin movie, was screened inside a spacecraft that an hour ago launched from the Earth and traveled 125,000 feet into outer space. Paramount, via star Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram, did a livestream of the spacecraft launch followed by the first look at the trailer.
Why do this? “The sky is the limit” for the film, Hemsworth said in announcing the stunt.
Okay, technically, we first all saw it on ground level at CinemaCon last week, 3-D glasses and all. “Transformers One” is the first animated “Transformers” movie in 40 years, and to inaugurate the 40-year anniversary of the Transformers brand, the film is an origin story for how...

In 2015, pioneering animation studio Pixar once again gave audiences something that’s never been seen before through Inside Out. The film that dealt with the inner workings of a young 11-year-old girl’s mind, was unique in the way feelings and emotions were given tangible qualities and became actual characters in the narrative.

Nine years later, Pixar is back with a sequel to the popular blockbuster, which will be one of the anticipated films of the summer. Apart from a fresh personification of emotions, the film has interestingly taken inspiration from Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems as far as certain technical aspects are concerned. This information though, is throwing fans into a confused state regarding what to expect.

Pixar Animation is all set to release the much-awaited Inside Out 2 in June of this year. Coming nine years after the first film, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the sequel introduces new emotions in the protagonist Riley, who has to deal with a new phase of her life: teenage. Apart from regulars Amy Poehler and Phyllis Smith, the sequel sees Maya Hawke and Ayo Edebiri join the cast as new emotions.
Hawke voices the emotion of Anxiety in Inside Out 2, which enters Headquarters when Riley decides to try out for a hockey team. The makers reportedly did a lot of research on what kind of emotions a thirteen-year-old usually begins to have and fixed on a few, including anxiety. The makers also reportedly took inspiration from one Adam Sandler film to treat the visuals for scenes involving Anxiety.

Inside Out 2 will introduce Anxiety as one of Riley’s new emotions and rather appropriately, Pixar looked at Uncut Gems as a reference.
Inside Out may very well be one of the finest animated films of the last few decades and Pixar is currently busy getting a sequel, Inside Out 2, ready for release in June.
There’s a lot of pressure on Pixar and director Kelsey Mann to match Pete Docter’s brilliant first film, but the trailer looks pretty good. Adding to the hype, Polygon reports that the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems was one of the inspirations for Inside Out 2.
Polygon visited Pixar and not only got a good look at the upcoming sequel, but also chatted to many of the people working on it. Inside Out 2 will follow Riley as she enters her teen years and experiences a whole roster of new emotions.

When Pixar released "Inside Out" back in 2015, the studio introduced us to five core emotions inside the mind of Riley, an 11-year old girl leaving her hometown of Minnesota and moving with her parents to a new home in San Francisco. That came with a lot of complicated feelings, and the emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) helped Riley worked through all the hurdles, allowing the feelings to learn something about themselves and the girl they've nurtured over the years.
"Inside Out 2" is about to make Riley's life even more complicated by introducing some new emotions. Though Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are all back, they have to deal with the arrival of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser). At the end of March, I had the thrilling opportunity to travel to San Francisco, California, to visit Pixar Animation Studios for a Press Day preview of the upcoming animated sequel, Inside Out 2. Kelsey Mann directs Inside Out 2 for his feature directorial debut after helming episodes of the Megas Xlr TV series, an episode of the Green Screen Show, and the Pixar short Party Central, featuring characters from Pete Docter’s Monsters Inc.
Riley (Kensington Tallman), the central character of 2015’s Inside Out, returns for the sequel. She’s entering her “terrible teens,” and the emotions inside her head – Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), Disgust (Liza Lapira) – are frantically trying to course-correct as new emotions – Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), and Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) – arrive in Riley’s Mind Space.

In 2015, Pixar's "Inside Out" introduced us to a wonderful ensemble of characters in the form of five core emotions inside the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley. Joy (Amy Poehler) was the leader of the crew, trying to keep Riley happy all the time. Sadness (Phyllis Smith) was constantly stressing out Joy by making Riley feel down in the dumps. Anger (Lewis Black) came out when Riley just couldn't deal anymore, Fear (Bill Hader) made sure Riley kept herself safe, though sometimes irrationally scared, and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) ensured that she never ate broccoli or dealt with anything cringey that might upset her.
In "Inside Out 2," all the core emotions are comfortable in keeping Riley on the straight and narrow, complete with a new belief system and sense of self (more on that in our full footage reaction from our visit to Pixar Animation), even though...

Pixar brought "Inside Out" to theaters in 2015, and even though the story was squarely focused on an 11-year old girl named Riley and all the emotions she felt when moving across the United States, away from her childhood home, audiences easily identified with all the emotional trials and tribulations that come with growing up. Director Pete Docter and the animation studio effectively made tears come out of our face by imagining the feelings that our own feelings have inside our mind, and the movie easily ranks as one of Pixar's best.
Now, nearly a decade later, director Kelsey Mann is tapping back into Riley's mind as she embarks on the even more complicated hurdle of becoming a teenager, complete with a new range of complex emotions that throw headquarters and the core emotions of Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Liza Lapira), and Fear (Tony Hale) into a tizzy.

Pixar director Kelsey Mann introduced the first 35 minutes of “Inside Out 2” at a recent studio sneak peek event, comparing how happy he looked at his 5th birthday party versus how uncomfortable he was at his 13th celebration. His teen angst was the driving force in making the sequel to Pete Docter’s Oscar-winning original.
“I hated everyone looking at me,” Mann said, “and I think it’s about the new emotions that come up at this age. You’re suddenly self-aware, and you’re extremely self-conscious. You start to look at yourself and see nothing but flaws. I was thinking, ‘Am I really worth all this celebrating?’ That’s what we want to do with this film. And that’s why we think it’s worth telling, and that’s why we think it’s important, especially now. We want teens to look at themselves in the mirror and love what they see,...

Hollywood decamped for Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon, looking to reassure movie theater owners and executives that they had what it takes to keep audiences flocking to cinemas through 2024 and beyond. And despite odes to the magic of the big screen experience, there was a whiff of desperation in the artificially-oxygenated, cigarette-perfumed air of Caesars Palace, where the annual exhibition trade show takes place.

Chris Hemsworth, the voice of a young Optimus Prime, and Brian Tyree Henry, the voice of a young Megatron, got an enthusiastic welcome at CinemaCon as they introduced a first look and 3D scene from “Transformers One,” Paramount’s animated origin story based on the Hasbro toys. “This origin story is how they transformed from brothers in arms to sworn enemies,” said Henry from Las Vegas on Thursday.

Chances are, you cried while watching Inside Out. Pixar’s 2015 masterpiece is, by its very nature, one of its most emotional works – not least due to its depictions of the emotions in the mind of youngster Riley. As it turns out, being in a Pixar film can be just as moving as watching them – as Maya Hawke found out in her Inside Out 2 audition. For the sequel, Hawke voices Anxiety, one of several new emotions that enters Riley’s head as puberty beckons – and even the process of delivering lines prior to getting the role brought tears to her eyes.
Yes, she cried in the audition. “There’s something about this story and these characters that I think really brings fundamental truths about our experience to the surface,” she explains. “It’s so relatable, so emotional, so pure, that whether you want to or not, you use what you...

With Wall Street closed in observance of Easter, the stock for worldwide #1 exhibitor AMC Theatres sits at a near-record low of $3.72 after the circuit announced it may sell $250 million in stock because it’s short on cash.
The AMC spin cited disappointing first-quarter 2024 box office, which will end down around nine percent from 2023. However, what went unsaid is April will be much worse.
Last Easter fell on April 9, the same weekend that Universal released “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” It grossed $575 million of that April’s $900 million total. This year, the month’s biggest contributors will likely be today’s release of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” followed by Alex Garland’s A24 drama “Civil War” (April 12) and Project X horror movie “Abigail” from Universal (April 19). All told, the most optimistic guess for April is $600 million and it could easily be closer to $500 million.
