Directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh recently directed "Act of Valor" and are now set to team with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the "Unknown Soldier" action film. Meanwhile, their production company has been working on a sci-fi movie, called "The Prototype," for which the trailer just leaked online. The film has been in the works under the radar, so not much is known about it, except that it revolves around a half-man, half-machine on the run from the government. It's directed by Andrew Will, and stars Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger), Joseph Mawle (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Anna Anissimova. "The Prototype" is expected to be released sometime next year. Check out the trailer below. Trailer:...

Act Of Valour co-director Scott Waugh clearly loves speed and vehicles - which is perhaps not all that shocking for a stunt man-turned-megaphone-wielder. Valour was full of jeeps, choppers and people moving fast; he already has a Fast & Furious-style project called High Speed gunning its engine in the development garage, and now DreamWorks has offered him the keys to the Need For Speed adaptation. The company dipped into its freshly acquired funds last month to buy the rights to EA’s long running game franchise and has set Real Steel writer John Gatins the task of turning it into a movie alongside co-writer / brother George.Little is known about the plot, though given that the most recent edition of the game, The Run, features actual characters involved in a cross-country race, chances are that’ll have some impact.Right now it’s still just at the offer stage; Waugh is a busy man,...

Seeing as Act of Valor was constantly, condescendingly referred to as Call of Duty: The Movie, there’s something — dare I say it? — oddly poetic about this next piece of news. Variety informs us that Scott Waugh, co-director of this year’s surprise action hit, has entered talks to helm DreamWorks’ video game adaptation Need for Speed.
First: There’s no confirmation on a plot, but Real Steel scribe John Gatins and his brother, George, developed an idea that was to the studio’s liking, and the latter sibling is now working on a screenplay. What’s more, the tentative, big picture — to the shock of no one who’s read something about modern Hollywood — calls for a franchise in the vein of The Fast and the Furious. (Need 5.)
If there proves to be any conflict here, it’s one steeped (well, treading) in irony — after all, Waugh has attached himself to High Speed,...

After spending seven years as the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger is clearly trying to make up for lost time with his return to acting. He already has four films in the works (The Last Stand, The Expendables 2, The Tomb and Unknown Soldier) along with several other rumoured possibilities. Now he is adding yet another project to the pile as he has reportedly signed on to star in Ten, a new action movie from David Ayer (Harsh Times). The plot synopsis is as follows: "Ten revolves around the members of an elite DEA task force who depart from their usual operations and steal millions from a drug cartel safe house. Just when the team thinks they got away with it, someone begins to take out them out one by one." In other words, it's essentially yet another gritty cop drama from David Ayer, although in this case the script...

Arnie’s early stages of career rebirth are going by the numbers.
I find the reboot of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s career to be moving at an uncomfortably rapid pace. Not that I’m invested one way or another in how things ultimately pan out for Arnie, but I do find it to be a deft bit of Hollywood gamesmanship that Schwarz has booked himself into about a half dozen major roles before the release of a single one of them.
The first indications are that Schwarzenegger is looking to pour himself back into the action hero mold of his early roles. It’s hard to tell at this point whether or not this is a tactical part of the grand scheme of Team Schwarzenegger, or if Ivan Reitman has simply lost the big man’s phone number. Either way, it’s more or less meat and potatoes in the early going.

While David Ayer has become something of a cop drama / thriller specialist, he has worked in other genres, including writing the scripts for U-571 and The Fast And The Furious. Now he’s targeting the Drug Enforcement Agency with Ten, which Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in. Ten finds an elite DEA strike team assembling to raid a drug cartel’s safe house. But while it appears above board, the action is actually the cover-up for the theft of millions in illegal merchandise. The team members (including, we assume, Schwarzenegger, unless he’s playing the big villain) think they’ve gotten away with it, but then they’re picked off one by one…Ayer isn’t actually writing this one – that job went to A-Team scribe Skip Woods. And Woods is connected to another upcoming Schwarzenegger project, Black Sands, which has Act Of Valour’s Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh directing.

Exclusive: Wme has signed Bandito Bros, whose partners Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh directed Act Of Valor and next direct Arnold Schwarzenegger in Black Sands this summer. The financier/production company had been repped by ICM, which made deals for McCoy to direct God’s Gulch, and for Waugh to helm the car chase movie High Speed. ICM will make a North American distribution deal on Waiting For Lightning, which played at SXSW. The Bandito Bros is an ambitious enterprise with eight partners who hatch, produce and finance immersive content ranging from features to documentaries and commercials and programming for TV and digital. On Act Of Valor, they raised the $12 million budget and flew under the radar until they were ready to take the finished film to the marketplace. Relativity Media won a bidding battle and paid $13 million for distribution. They are comfortable financing their features, which leads to a high upside.

We've come across a couple of brief interviews with action film legends Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Stallone offered up a little update on a possible fifth Rambo film from Macleans saying,
I'm dying to do another Rambo. He's in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don't think Rambo likes Mexicans.
I'm sure he'll eventually get around to it. The film was being developed at one point and was called Rambo: Savage Hunt, which you can read about right here. But after being greenlit, the film fell apart and development stopped, and he was done with it. Apparently he's now ready to put the red headband back on and kill some people.
The Arnold Fans recently caught up with Arnold Schwarzenegger and asked him about his upcoming schedule, which includes films such as The Tomb with Stallone and a film called The Unknown Soldier.

We think it’s safe to say that lots of folks were surprised when Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh’s Navy Seal action flick Act of Valor won the box office battle the weekend before last, but the feel-good story isn’t over yet – the success of the modestly-budgeted film has gotten both directors more work. It’s already been reported that Waugh has signed on to direct High Speed – a car chase film currently being written by Greg Russo – and that McCoy and Waugh will re-team for the Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle Black Sands. But now McCoy gets a crack at his own feature with the just-announced God’s Gulch. McCoy’s own Bandito Brothers production company will fund the new project, which was inspired by an idea hatched...

No matter the criticisms of American jingoism or just sub-Greengrass, “gritty” filmmaking, the Navy Seal showcase “Act of Valor” has nonetheless proven a formidable attraction for mainstream audiences and military enthusiasts alike. Coming off its second weekend of release, with $13.7 million to show for it, word is still out on how much Navy recruitment numbers have risen, but for the film's co-director Mike “Mouse” McCoy, its success has landed him a solo directing opportunity in the form of “God's Gulch.”
Deadline reports that the drama will be financed and produced by McCoy's company Bandito Brothers, and follows a group fighting for survival “in the wake of the entire computer network shutting down and the ensuing economic and societal collapse.” Written by Brooks McClaren, who made waves in 2010 with his Black List-approved script “How It Ends,” this newest film sprung from an idea that McCoy and he brainstormed together, no doubt after a particularly sugar-addled,...

Mike “Mouse” McCoy, who co-directed the just released real Navy Seal action thriller "Act of Valor", is set to helm the drama "God’s Gulch" for Bandito Brothers says Deadline.
The story follows a group of people who must come together to fight for their survival when the entire global computer network is shut down and the world is on the verge of economic and societal collapse.
Brooks McClaren will write the script based on an idea he and McCoy hatched together. Both McCoy and his 'Valor' co-director Scott Waugh will helm the Arnie vehicle "Black Sands" first.

Since that their stealthily-made, real-life SEALs action movie Act Of Valor opened well at the box office, co-directors Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh have been ploughing ahead with future projects. While their current job is reuniting for Arnie-starring thriller Black Sands, they’ve also both got solo projects bubbling away, with McCoy setting up a trip to God’s Gulch. The drama, scripted by Brooks McLaren and based on an idea he cooked up with McCoy, follows what happens when the world’s computer network shuts down. Society, as it is so wont to do is such situations, collapses, and a group must fight to survive.McLaren seems to have a thing for apocalyptic drama scenarios: his Black List script How It Ends (about an expectant father journeying to be with his wife through a ruined civilization) is already being developed by the Sierra/Affinity company for Breck Eisner to make.

[1] About a year and a half ago, it seemed like Antoine Fuqua was set [2] to direct Bruce Willis in the original action thriller The Tomb. In the time since, however, the project's rotated through a couple of other well-known action-names. Fuqua and Willis dropped out of the project, and Willis' The Expendables co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger flirted with taking the lead before another Expendables man, Sylvester Stallone, ultimately signed on [3]. Now it looks like Schwarzenegger may be back again, as news breaks that the former California governor has entered early talks to appear alongside Stallone in the film. Meanwhile, the project seems to have finally found a replacement for Fuqua in Mikael Håfström, who's helmed such movies as The Rite and Derailed. More details after the jump. Ain't It Cool News [4] and Deadline [5] report that Schwarzenegger has been approached to star with Stallone in the picture, and Schwarzenegger's met Sly and discussed the project with him.

In a few months, Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to shoot Black Sands, the next film [1] on his comeback trail. It will follow The Last Stand, an action film set near the Mexican border, which was directed by Kim Ji-woon (I Saw the Devil; The Good, the Bad, the Weird). Black Sands should start shooting on April 1. Over the weekend a report leaked out saying that the title had changed to Black Sunday, and while that part isn't correct -- the film is still called Black Sands -- it seems like another detail in the same report is accurate. Specifically, there is a supernatural aspect to the film, putting this one close to End of Days territory. TheArnoldFans [2] presents a quote from Schwarzenegger reportedly saying "I'm a kind of angel... I can not currently say more about this film." I'm not sure where the quote comes from, but it seems to be from another unattributed source.

Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy ("Act Of Valor") are directing from a script by Sergio Altieri and Kevin Elders which Skip Woods ("A Good Day To Die Hard") performed re-writes on. Filming begins in April.

Always more content when punching dreadlocked aliens, physical manifestations of the antichrist and pretty much everyone to death than when using ‘ideas’, ‘rhetoric’ and ‘any semblance of intelligence’ to get things done, it did indeed seem strange when Arnie was elected Governor of California in 2003. After slowly departing into his tenure in politics through a slew of tired and mechanically deficient star vehicles (ending with the competent tedium of Terminator 3) he disappeared from our screens almost completely. For eight years he subsisted upon minor roles, meagre cameos and his estimated $200 million fortune until his political career ended and his personal life collapsed amongst allegations of extra-marital affairs and children.
But today, no longer wanted by the government, Arnie looks once again to survive as soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire: Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The last time the former governator tangoed with the supernatural was at the height of Y2k fever in the flick End of Days. Now that he's getting back to business blowing shit up on the big screen, that may be about to change.

Expect this movie, with Arnold raging war against weapons dealers as an immortal instrument of death, to be a cross between Constantine and Commando!

Arnie is speculated to be playing an archangel who takes on weapons dealers. Many of you may be concerned about Scwarzenegger (now 64) being able to live up to his action icon status.

Updated: Looks like this baby is still called Black Sands. One of TheArnoldFans sent us this – “Sorry…Okay, it looks like we are back to the film title ‘Black Sands!’ An Arnold rep contacted us and explained there must have been a translation problem from Google translator on the title. The original source, written by one of Arnold’s close Austrian friends, either accidentally wrote ‘Black Sunday’ or the translation to English was off. Either way, it sounds like the plot remains equally as exciting with Arnold as an angel! Production start date: April!” We still haven’t seen any finished products from the newly out-of-retirement Arnold Schwarzenegger hit the theaters. But with his first project back in the acting world, Last Stand, done shooting, and the first trailer for Stallone’s upcoming Expendables sequel (where Arnie reportedly has a meatier role) having come and gone, all that will soon be remedied. Now...

In October we learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the big screen meant new projects for the action icon left and right. In addition to The Last Stand and The Expendables 2, the Governator had also signed on to star in Black Sands, a new action film from Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, the duo behind the Navy SEALs flick Act of Valor (watch the trailer right here). The film's original story was said to follow Schwarzenegger as a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest, however, it sounds like the project now has a bit of a supernatural twist to the plot. Read on! Now titled Black Sunday, Schwarzenegger told TheArnoldFans (via The Playlist) that he's playing some kind of immortal hero now. The actor says, "I'm a kind of angel, but I can not currently say more about this film.

We, some two months ago, brought you the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger would soon jump in front of the camera for Black Sands, an — oh, come on, what else? — actioner that casts him as “a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest.” Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, the duo behind next year’s Act of Valor, would be directing a script from A Good Day to Die Hard scribe Skip Woods. Somebody was bound to get shot in the process.
Things have changed here or there in the time since, with TheArnoldFans telling us that the prospective thrill ride has not only been renamed to Black Sunday, but will also see him playing “an immortal” — or, as the man himself put it, “a kind of angel.” First, that title: Though I don’t expect a heap of originality from an Arnold Schwarzenegger film,...

Now that he is done being all Governor-y, Arnie is getting back into the swing of making action films quite nicely. As we’ve posted recently, he has been on set with The Expendables 2 and is also already shooting The Last Stand, which is being directed by Jee-Woon Kim.
Now we have news that Arnie has lined up another action flick for once The Last Stand is finished. Working from a script by Skip Woods (who wrote the screenplay for the recently green-lit Die Hard 5), Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy will direct the Austrian Oak in Black Sands, a film being pitched as High Plains Drifter meets Man on Fire. Frankly, if the finished product can come even vaguely close to the quality of either of those films, I will be a happy man indeed. Arnie will play a loner (no doubt armed to the teeth and with some...
