Hilarious episode,!

I personally found this episode hilarious! The whole 91/2 weeks type genre satire was awesome. Tiffany hadush is very funny! And Paul Walter Hauser is so funny! Loved it! Love the different genre for each episode. Great idea, very smart and fun show with excellent casting. Season 2 may be even better than season 1. I'm done of my review, I see short reviews on here , not sure why IMDb is asking for more characters? Sorry about this wasted space at the end that I need to write to fulfill the character requirements. Very strange . Not sure why that is....... Anyway, really enjoying the show!....

Unnecessary episode
stasiacakes9 August 2023
The only thing to save this episode was Travis. Danner is irrelevant to this season and they tried to make her important. Stretching out the season isn't always a good thing. They should have stuck to this season's murder. Disappointing episode that had no point.... It has a point, but it's just filler. Travis is hilarious. But the entire episode seems so out of place and juvenile. But juvenile in the sense that it's unnecessarily lewd. I watch it every week when it airs, so not having another episode to watch has left a bitter taste. Looking forward to the finale. Would have been happier with 8 episodes instead of 10.

Warning: Spoilers
Other than the good storyline, I really enjoy the style each episode is portrayed in. This one reminded me of the Basic Instinct and I think it was very well done in that it was comedic as well as relevant to the movie, albeit not moving the storyline very much like the other episodes, which is okay.

Each episode is focused on a character and Danner definitely needs one. This one also adds to the variety of movies being used for each episode. Looking forward to seeing more episodes and trying to add minimum number of characters required for this review as I need to feed my kitty and go to bed soon.

Seriously save your time. Watch last 3 minutes only.

We were so thrilled to randomly come across this series recently and are following along for season two. The story overall has been pretty good and relevant character back stories/episodes are tying up to current events in similar was as season one. This episode was so pointless. It did not move the story forward at all except the last few minutes. Tiffany Hadish deserved a better story line here - especially since she had a decent episode during season one. Terrible writing and ridiculous scenes throughout. Not sure what they were trying to do here. Most of it was really unwatchable and unfortunately a waste of time. We will tune in next week and hope the other episodes improve.

Danner means Business

In "Danner's Fire," The Afterparty Season 2 Episode 6 features Tiffany Haddish as Detective Danner, inspired by erotic thrillers from the 90s. The flashback story, written by Anthony King and Christopher Miller, features sexy neo noir vibes and a slick back hair. Haddish's performance is enjoyable, with a classic 90s outfit featuring a fitted turtleneck and leather jacket. The white dress is coded by Catherine Tramell. Haddish and Michael Ealy's chemistry in Afterparty Season 2 Episode 4, "Hannah," is characterized by absurdity and seriousness. However, the lack of restraint in the Wes Anderson aesthetic oversaturates the narrative. The scene with the candle wax, a direct nod to 1993's Body of Evidence, is not just a spoof but also contributes to the story and enhances the plot and humor. The dialogue in the episode enhances both the plot and humor. Sam Richardson's performance as Aniq in The Afterparty is consistently funny, especially in the episode where Aniq listens to Danner's cheesy sexscapades with a serial arsonist. The erotic element is aptly described as "cheesy," with the ridiculous sex scene in the kitchen and numerous double entendres and sexual innuendos. The strong story structure of the series is highlighted by interspersing scenes in the present day during the telling of Danner's tale, which flows exceptionally well and raises more questions, making it an ideal murder mystery. Danner quit the force to tell Aniq why she let her heart blind her brain. She confesses that she didn't stop being a cop to write books, but because she lost her confidence while investigating a case. After solving the Xavier case, Danner investigated a series of fires, and her team had a suspect named Leonard Vurr. Leonard is into fires spiritually but confesses that he doesn't start fires anymore. Danner doesn't believe him, and after talking to Leonard, she doesn't think he is behind the recent fires. To find an answer, Danner meets Quentin Devereaux, who charms her and invites her to talk over dinner. Devereaux convinces Danner that Leonard is not obsessed with fire anymore, but his new obsession is karaoke. Danner's partner, Culp, warns Danner not to cloud her judgment after spending a night with Devereaux. Danner discovers that Leonard talked about Dairy Freeze, and he had said that he was going to hit the karaoke bar to let off some steam. Danner catches Leonard at the bar with his car trunk full of accelerants. Danner visits Devereaux to update him and discovers a box of the same accelerant she found inside Leonard's trunk at Devereaux's place. Devereaux is the arsonist, and he tried to frame Leonard. Devereaux is a sex addict for fire, and as a therapist, it was easy to find a sap to pin the blame on. Danner tried to call Culp, but Devereaux showed up and cuffed Danner to his bed. He lit the fire and left. Culp arrived in time, breaking Danner out and passing out. Danner picked him up, and they both escape the burning place. Her department let Leonard go, and Devereaux disappeared. Danner blamed herself and resigned.

The worst kind of filler
gpglenpeters16 August 2023
Completely pointless episode. Danner's been dragged into this season as they must've felt like they needed a cop figure, and she hasn't been terrible but this was so unnecessary it stuck out.

Why stretch the season to ten episodes if it's only to include nonsense like this?

This has been a good season so far, but this was a definite low point, probably the worst episode of both seasons.

It wouldn't be so bad if it had any relevance whatsoever, but apart from the phrase about the arsonist it had zero affect on the season's plot.

If this had been an amusing diversion, or an interesting red herring I wouldn't have minded so much but it really has nothing to offer.

It's probably best to just skip this episode which surely can't be what they were going for?
