Vietnam in HD: Peace with Honor (2011)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

The sixth and final episode in The History Channel documentary covers the final years of the war as protests reach a level high with 800 Vietnam vets marching on Washington and throwing away the medals they were awarded. The peace talks in Paris finally lead to all sides coming to an agreement to end the war. We also pick up the story of journalist Joe Galloway who agrees to return to Vietnam six years after he left. Anne Purcell also finally gets the news that her POW husband is going to be released. The final stages of the war are also discussed as South Vietnamese troops are geared to take over and the Americans are forced off the ground as Operation Lam Son 719 goes into full effect. This final episode contains all the actual footage from these battles as well as footage from LZ Lolo and the fall of Saigon. I think this footage is going to be what really draws people to this documentary because the actual battle footage is still quite chilling and rather jaw-dropping. As usual, there are many great stories told and it's fascinating hearing from the veterans about what they were feeling learning that the war was over as well as getting their thoughts on returning home to a place where they felt unwelcome. It's also interesting to hear their thoughts today about not being welcomed home with much love from the country. This final episode also tells the story of what happened in Vietnam once the war ended and the U.S. newspapers seemed to forget as bigger things started to happen here including the fall of Nixon.
