Stephen Graham is set to make his anticipated comeback as the incarcerated Combo in Shane Meadows's This Is England '90.
The British actor - who has just teamed up with co-star Thomas Turgoose to raise money for Stand up to Cancer - revealed to Digital Spy that Combo will return as a "reformed figure".
The Channel 4 series is writer and director Meadows's final follow-up to 2010's This Is England '86 and 2011's This Is England '88 - all of which were off-shoots from the 2006 movie This Is England.
The first episode surprised fans with its unexpectedly sunny and laugh-out-loud start for the gang - which includes Gadget (Andrew Ellis), Shaun (Thomas Turgoose), Milky (Andrew Shim), Lol (Vicky McClure) and Woody (Joe Gilgun).
But Graham gave us a resounding "no" when we asked if it was going to stay that way.
"It's what Shane [Meadows] does," the Boardwalk Empire star explained.

Jack O'Connell has hinted that he might appear in Channel 4 series This Is England '90.
His character Pukey Nicholls didn't appear in the TV spin-offs This Is England '86 and This Is England '88 due to schedule clashes, but the actor said that a grown-up Pukey may still return.
Speaking to Empire, O'Connell said: "I'm not speaking in definite terms but I've got a slight inkling. I'm led to believe that Pukey still exists, and the storylines that I've been discussing, they seem quite... chunky enough, anyway."
The actor also discussed his experience on the 2006 film's set with director Shane Meadows.
"Shane gave me my first taste of it, and that put me on set with Stephen Graham," he said.
"I got to see where he puts himself in order to portray characters such as Combo, and that's served me well throughout my whole career, so if I can...

Stephen Graham has told Digital Spy that he is "very sad" about bringing an end to This Is England and his character Combo when the series concludes with a 1990-based sequel.
This Is England '90, the follow-up to This Is England '86 in 2010 and This Is England '88 in 2011, is expected to air in 2014. Director Shane Meadows has stated that he wants the latest series to be the show's "full stop".
Stephen Graham, who plays Combo, said that he had relished the opportunity to play a character that had grown with every special.
"That character has been such a huge and important part of my life. That character, that film basically, changed my life," said Graham.
"So I will be very sad to see him go, but at the end of the day, it's been so great to be able to play a character for such a long time and to grow with it.

The director's 2006 movie This Is England spawned TV follow-ups This Is England '86 in 2010 and This Is England '88 in 2011, but work on the 1990 catch-up was halted while Meadows made his documentary The Stone Roses: Made of Stone.

Asked if This Is England '90 would be his last part of the story, Meadows told Digital Spy: "Yeah, hopefully. I say hopefully because I don't want to end up ruining it, but I love the cast."
Producer Mark Herbert joked: "We should do This Is England '70, when they're at school!"
Meadows added: "This Is England the musical? Who knows!

Playing troubled Lol in This is England won Vicky McClure a Bafta and a raft of new roles. Here she talks about the 'psychological nightmare' of working with director Shane Meadows
In an east London pub, Vicky McClure is reeling off a list of her recent roles. There's True Love, an entirely improvised TV drama directed by Dominic Savage, in which she co-stars with David Tennant. There's a big-budget Tom Stoppard adaptation of Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, with Keira Knightley in the title role. McClure plays a nun called Serafina who has a brief affair with Domhnall Gleeson's Levin: "not a one-night stand, because it's a bloody period drama, but that kind of thing". There's Svengali, based on an internet viral about the music business, and, perhaps most improbably, the latest Jason Statham vehicle, Hummingbird, in which Great Yarmouth's leading action hero hunts down the killers of his former lover.

As the countdown to next week's British Academy Television Awards begins, Abi Morgan, screenwriter of The Hour, Shame and The Iron Lady, reveals why it's been a golden year for television
Mabel is unimpressed. "What are you doing?" "Writing a piece about television." "Hm." She considers me with the bored disdain that only an eight-year-old can deliver, when they're tired and hungry and just home from school. "Television. It rots the senses in the head. It kills imagination dead." I stare blankly, my fingers hovering over my laptop keys. "'Who told you that?" "Everyone knows that, Mum." She sighs, already halfway out of my office.
Roald Dahl's got a lot to answer for. It's not that I am advocating the ditching of the classics. I have oompa loompa-ed my kids with the best of them, sending my son Jesse off to school with his face orange and his hair green for National Book Day.

The Wire star Dominic West will lead the way at the upcoming BAFTA TV awards after scoring four nominations with his creepy portrayal of British serial killer Fred West.
West's two-part drama Appropriate Adult, a reconstruction of the police investigation into the notorious murderer, has been unveiled as the top contender ahead of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' (BAFTA) TV Awards ceremony next month.
The show scored nods for Best Mini-series, Best Leading Actress for Emily Watson, Best Supporting Actress for Monica Dolan and Best Leading Actor for West, who will compete for the trophy alongside Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Exile star John Simm and Joseph Gilgun for This Is England '88.
Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes show also scored nods for his co-stars Martin Freeman and Andrew Scott in the Best Supporting Actor category, while Downton Abbey's Dame Maggie Smith leads the Best Supporting Actress nominations for her role in the popular period drama.
The prizes will be handed out at a star-studded ceremony in London on 27 May.

The Devils
It's impossible to tell how genuine a controversy is. Were people really upset and outraged by this 1971 Ken Russell classic or was it more to do with organised, semi-professional complainers such as church groups and viewers' associations feeding a press frenzy?
Either way, the film still carries enough of a reputation to prevent it being released fully restored (in terms of both quality and content). While that's all rather fitting for a film about mass hysteria and witch-hunting, we're lucky to be seeing it at all, so this very well put-together DVD of the original theatrical version is something to be extra grateful for. Ken Russell had excellent taste, both good and bad. He was one of the few directors to exploit the visual flamboyance of cinema, having little time for the more earthy kitchen-sink concerns of his peers. While based on true events, Russell still made room...

Team America Swear Along, London
The Prince Charles Cinema did it with the South Park movie last year, but now they extend audience-participation cinema even further past its usual Rocky Horror/Sound Of Music remit with this special screening of Matt Stone and Trey Parker's – and in retrospect, the war on terror's – finest movie moment. The timing is particularly appropriate following the recent demise of its breakout star, Kim Jong-Il. So not only do you get to sing along to family favourites like I'm So Ronery, America, Fuck Yeah! and Pearl Harbor Sucked And I Miss You (the lyrics are on screen), you can also join in with Team America's prodigious puppet-powered profanity (swear words also on screen). You'll have your work cut out, as anyone who remembers Gary's rousing climactic speech will attest (a good 35 expletives, and it happens twice).

Shane Meadows's This Is England '88 provided the outstanding dramatic moments of the week while there was worrying news for bookworms in Imagine

This Is England, Shane Meadows's coruscating, dark, joyous and hauntingly watchable drama following a gang of friends, desperately amiable misfits, growing up before our eyes in a chill northern town, first exploded on to the big screen five years ago and has now had two TV sequels – the film was set in 1983, the follow-ups in '86 and '88. It is fast becoming not just a drama but our collective memory of the years most of us have lived through together.
We can relive them, and reflect. On all the changes, for good and for ill, the speed of which we...

My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas | This Is England '88 | True Stories: Transgenders – Pakistan's Open Secret | Enlightened | Him & Her | Imagine: Books – The Last Chapter?
My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas
9pm, Channel 4
A festive special of the documentary series about members of the Irish travelling community and their enormous dresses. We meet some new characters as they prepare for Christmas. Obviously, producers have chucked in a couple of weddings, so the audience's lust for orange women in giant doilies can be sated. And Celebrity Big Brother winner Paddy Doherty invites us into his home to see how he and his family celebrate. But it's no easy task hiding presents from the kids when you live in a caravan. Or cramming everyone around the table for turkey and pudding. Julia Raeside

This Is England '86 was undeniably great drama, so when we heard that we'd be getting a follow-up - This Is England '88 - we got a little bit excited. And the fact that it would be set at Christmas got us even more giddy. Well, we've had a sneak peek at the first episode of this new three-part series and can confirm it's classic This Is England - funny, emotional, smart, touching. Brilliant stuff, in other words. After a screening at BAFTA, director Shane Meadows and star Vicky McClure - known to This Is England fans as Lol - chatted about the show, so read on to find out what they had to say! Why did you decide to make a new series of This Is England set in 1988?

Dual role in Misfits shows the Chorley actor's subtlety but he's so close to Shane Meadows' Woody he'd have sex with his scooter
I meet Joseph Gilgun giddy and relieved, following an audition for a part he's clearly dying to get. It's like I've arrived mid-conversation as he hurls head-first into stories about the pint he's just had with a "crackhead", his publicist's rapping abilities and how Twitter can "get to fuck". He is dressed with slick northern style and covered in tattoos. He talks in a thick Chorley accent, peppering his tales with expletives. Frankly, keeping him on topic is near impossible. He veers from his original point more times than the Wife of Bath. But he is warm and sharp, and the punchlines begin to feel unimportant when the journey there is so much fun.
Gilgun is best known for his role as Woody, the affable skinhead leader in This Is England.
