The first look at upcoming horror-thriller What Remains of Us has arrived, with a promotional still showing a short-haired Kit Harington wielding an ax and looking ominously in the distance. Considering the plot, this can’t point to anything good…
As per Arclight Films, What Remains of Us has the following synopsis: “Set deep in rural England, the film is framed from the point of view of Harington’s character’s 10-year-old daughter (Caoilinn Springall). Behind the walls of her family’s isolated, fortified compound, she begins to question her unusual life. She discovers that once a month her father turns into a monster. Her parents say the monster is nothing to be afraid of but when the monster escapes, the girl has to confront the harsh reality of her father’s identity and make a life-altering decision.” Kit Harington plays father to Springall (The Midnight Sky), while Ashleigh Cummings plays the mother.

Rose Leslie, 36, and Kit Harington, 36, have welcomed their second child, a daughter, two years after the birth of their firstborn, a son.
Neither of the children’s names have been disclosed.
The couple’s preference to keep their children’s identities and lives private is no surprise as they dated privately for nearly four years before they made their red carpet debut in 2016 as an official couple. Within two years of the debut, the Game of Thrones couple announced their engagement with a local newspaper in their hometown and exchanged vows in Scotland.
In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Harington said he doesn’t believe in talking about relationships with the media.

After a tumultuous return to his family’s hole-in-the-wall Chicago restaurant, chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) and his staff transform the greasy sandwich joint into a first-class dining experience after he discovers the slush fund his brother left behind. Despite having the extra money to make his dreams a reality, the future proves to be both a personal and professional challenge for Carmy and the crew.
Watch the trailer for Season 2 of “The Bear”:
Beginning on June 14, the new series continuation of the beloved film “The Full Monty” arrives on Hulu. It’s 25 years later and the men and women of Sheffield, England, are in reboot mode, navigating life and family. Sorry, Kit Harington! HBO has a new Game of Thrones spinoff in the works, and it’s not the Jon Snow series fans were hoping for. We’ve been eagerly waiting for news on Harington’s show, but the network recently announced a different prequel instead.
The focus of the upcoming project will be on Aegon I Targaryen’s takeover of Westeros, and there’s a possibility of a movie being produced alongside the series.

Since the end of “Game of Thrones” in 2019, star Kit Harington has clearly been very particular with what projects he signs on to do. It makes sense, as his time of ‘Thrones’ dominated his work schedule for years, so now he just wants to do projects that seem worth the time. Of course, the big highlight of that post-‘Thrones’ life has been Marvel’s “Eternals,” but he’s also shown up in series such as “Extrapolations” and “Modern Love,” as well as the film, “Baby Ruby.” Well, it appears he’s heading back to HBO for his next project, but it’s not the “Snow” sequel series fans have been hoping for.

This article discusses difficult subject matter including (but not limited to) postpartum psychosis.
Bess Wohl's timely and powerful "Baby Ruby" opens with the main character Jo (Noémie Merlant) carefully making a banner for her baby shower. Her methodical cutting and placement of the letters demonstrate how much she enjoys being organized and in control, as well as the pressure she feels to curate the perfect life and aesthetic for her website and social media pages. Jo is not just a person or a mother-to-be: she is a brand. After the birth of Ruby, she discovers motherhood is far more difficult than glossy Instagram photos portray it to be.
The entire film is through her point of view as she spirals into a whirlwind of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. She also starts having unsettling hallucinations that turn out to be symptoms of postpartum psychosis. One of the most captivating aspects...

Bess Wohl is used to wearing many hats, but nothing could’ve prepared her for the role of motherhood. The former actor who’s now a screenwriter and a celebrated playwright — her Grand Horizons was a 2020 Tony nominee for best play — has three children, and the physical and psychological effects of being a new mom inspired her directorial debut, Baby Ruby. Screening Feb. 9 at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Ruby explores postpartum depression (Ppd) through the lens of the horror-thriller, as lifestyle blogger Jo (Noémie Merlant) struggles to adapt to her fussy new baby. Here, Wohl discusses channeling the less-talked-about side of parenting into a genre film, and landing two consecutive projects with Kit Harington.

Baby Ruby is a horror movie written and directed by Bess Wohl starring Noémie Merlant and Kit Harington.
This is a suprise in her debut as a suspense and horror film director that makes one thing clear: She knows how to direct.
Excellent rhythm and tension.
Storyline
A mother experiences her worst nightmare when, after her daughter Ruby arrives, her world starts turning into a nightmare after she has visions and episodes where she loses her mind, which are all related to her baby.
Movie Review Baby Ruby (2022)
This is a movie that stands out more in the directing than in the screenplay, both of these are by the same person. An excellent movie as far as rhythm is concerned and knowing how to keep the tension up, with a balanced editing, filming, good photography and… on top of this, the director manages to get good acting from the main actress Noémie Merlant,...

“Both mother and baby are doing well,” claim so many birth announcements — an innocuous flash of good news that, in all too many cases, proves to be a bit premature. The baby may be fine after weathering the ordeal of entering the world; the mother might not yet be out of the woods. The strains and vagaries of postpartum depression — still widely misunderstood and even shamed by those who haven’t experienced it — morph into literal horrors in “Baby Ruby,” a stylish and suitably stressful debut feature from Tony-nominated playwright Bess Wohl (“Grand Horizons”). As Wohl rather boldly challenges her audience to maintain belief in, and sympathy for, the anxieties and psychoses tormenting otherwise privileged new mother Josephine (Noémie Merlant), any viewers who waver only prove her larger point.

Monday morning, film executives at the Toronto Film Festival woke up to a record-breaking deal for Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” which Focus Features acquired for 30 million, a seemingly healthy sign for the market and the indie-film world.
There was just one problem: “The Holdovers” wasn’t a splashy premiere at the Princess of Wales or Royal Alexandra that had buyers huddling in the lobby but a private screening at the Scotiabank multiplex shown to just a handful of individuals representing all the major studios and streamers on Sunday.
And so far, it’s the only sale on that scale since the festival began last Thursday.

Fans of “Only Murders in the Building” going into the comedy “Susie Searches,” which follows a college student with a true crime podcast taking a mystery into her own hands, may be in for a surprise at just how dark the film gets.
The film’s stars Kiersey Clemons and Alex Wolff told TheWrap following the movie’s premiere at TIFF that the movie is “way more disturbing” than even they expected it would be.
“It’s really unsettling,” Wolff said. “I think it’s fun to know that. It’s fun for people to know that they’re not going to feel comfortable watching this movie. They’re going to not know when they should laugh or if they can’t. It’s going to be a fun, thrilling, challenging, hilarious watch for people. Motherhood is terrifying. Every aspect of becoming a new mother breeds terror and anxiety, from giving birth to a mother’s identity post-baby, and countless horror movies have explored just about every facet of it over the decades. Yet horror always finds something new to say. Writer/Director Bess Wohl’s debut feature, Baby Ruby, uses psychological horror to put viewers in the shoes of a new mother unraveling after giving birth. It’s a fascinating means to open up conversations and shed light on postpartum psychosis.

“The film possessed me.”
That is how Tilda Swinton described how she came to star in “The Eternal Daughter,” her third pairing with director Joanna Hogg, and a sequel to their two previous collaborations, “The Souvenir” and “The Souvenir: Part II.”
The actress’ choice of words is fitting, since the new film is a ghostly, mysterious tale of a filmmaker, Julie, who’s caring for her elderly mother, Rosalind, in their family’s grand home in the country. Swinton reprises her “Souvenir” role as Rosalind and also takes on the role of Julie, who was played in the previous movies by Swinton’s own daughter Honor Swinton Byrne.
During a visit to TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto Film Festival, Swinton and Hogg discussed “The Eternal Daughter” with TheWrap’s Editor in Chief, Sharon Waxman, explaining that the idea for the film came from a deeply personal place.

Did you ever see those videos of women giving birth in high school anatomy class? It’s like watching a David Cronenberg film because childbirth is body horror. The impending task of motherhood is draining, and for some, Postpartum depression is a large part of the terrifying ordeal of being a mom. This is what director/writer Bess Wohl aims to portray in her new feature film Baby Ruby which stars Noemie Merlant and Kit Harrington.
Jo (Merlant) is juggling a lot right now. She’s balancing life as a vlogger and influencer with her first child. Her husband Spencer (Harrington) isn’t into any of that and works as a butcher. They live in a semi-rural area in a lovely home and have what seems like the perfect life. Jo has no clue about being a mother and what to expect. She asks questions like, “how big are these things anyway.

Pop culture — at least in the Western world — treats pregnancy and early motherhood as a magical time, when back aches and sleepless nights are a mere inconvenience in what is otherwise a fantastic, love-fuelled, once-in-a-lifetime journey. That is bulls***. And with "Baby Ruby," Bess Wohl is setting the record straight.
Premiering at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, "Baby Ruby" is a tense, visceral psychological thriller that sets out to dismantle everything you think you know about being a mom. Written and directed by Tony-nominated American playwright Bess Wohl, the film centers on the independent, perfectionist, mom-to-be Jo (Noémie Merlant), who branded herself as a chic lifestyle influencer through her successful blog, "Love, Joséphine." Using the power of the internet — and, let's face it, her good looks and wealth — Jo has carefully curated an aspirational image for her online followers. She takes it all on herself; taking control of every aspect...

As the Toronto Film Festival marks a big post-pandemic return to the physical realm with something almost normal for its 47th edition, the biggest sighs of relief may well come from local Canadian filmmakers and premiere party organizers.
“You cannot launch a festival film digitally. You need to build up hype in person. You need to meet people in person to be able to forge relationships to launch your film,” Markhor Pictures producer Shehrezade Mian, who is launching Antoine Bourges’ Concrete Valley immigrant drama in Toronto as part of the Wavelengths sidebar, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Mian insists fellow filmmakers who screened their films at scaled-down Toronto festivals in 2020 and 2021 had their launch plans undermined by play on digital platforms. “The buzz this year is so much more hyped and so much more intense,” she added.

Despite its title, writer/director Bess Wohl’s debut feature “Baby Ruby” isn’t primarily about the titular infant. It instead takes interest in her beleaguered mother Jo (Noémie Merlant of “Portrait of a Lady on Fire”), a lifestyle influencer for an online magazine. Her husband, Spencer, is an “ethical” butcher. The pair, living in a lavish cabin, on paper, are the kind of seemingly perfect couple who put their idyllic baby pictures online to stir envy. They show the best parts of motherhood and sanitize the strain. But the bitter truth that Jo discovers is that you can’t hide the arduous parts.
The very idea of cinema showing the horrors and travails of motherhood isn’t new. It’s a trend gaining speed with films like “Kindred,” “Umma,” and “Lamb.” And yet, what separates Wohl’s film from everything else is how it dissects the performative exteriority of...

Motherhood is scary as hell. The exhaustion, the changes in the body, the responsibility for an entirely new life; all take a heavy toll on new mothers. It also makes the experience rife for exploration through the genre machinations of psychological and body horror. With her feature film debut, “Baby Ruby,” playwright Bess Wohl uses both genres to explore postpartum depression.
Noémie Merlant (“Portrait of a Lady on Fire”) stars as Jo, a wealthy vlogger and lifestyle influencer who is expecting her first child with her husband Spencer (Kit Harington), an ethical butcher.

According to director Tobias Lindholm, “The Good Nurse” has no intention of being a typical true crime film. “We realized that it wasn’t a story only about a serial killer, it was about a friendship. And it was a proof of humanity,” Lindholm said while visiting TheWrap and Shutterstock’s Interview and Portrait Studio at the Toronto Film Festival for a conversation moderated by TheWrap’s Executive Editor, Awards, Steve Pond.
“The Good Nurse” premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, September 11, and explores the real-life friendship between nurses Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain) and Charles “Charlie” Cullen, who is suspected of killing approximately 400 patients during his 16-year career. The movie also depicts the attempt to bring Cullen to justice.
In the studio, Lindholm was joined by “The Good Nurse” cast members Nnamdi Asomugha, Jessica Chastain, and Eddie Redmayne, all of whom were ready and willing to dig...

“Baby Ruby,” which held its world premiere at TIFF, is not your mother’s movie about being a new mom. Or maybe it is. In the film, Noémie Merlant (“Portait of a Lady on Fire”) plays Jo, an influencer who plans on seamlessly incorporating her new baby into her brand, until the experience isn’t exactly all it’s chalked up to be. As Jo struggles with her postpartum recovery, she grows alienated from the people around her: the other new mothers in her circle, her helpless husband and most disturbingly, Baby Ruby herself, who acts out only when she’s alone with Jo.

Bess Wohl doesn’t want to compare the process of crafting a film to birthing a child, but the connection is almost too easy given the subject matter of her directorial debut.
Her movie “Baby Ruby,” an unsettling psychological thriller that premieres on Friday at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival, offers the kind of rare, unvarnished look at the good, bad and deeply disturbing aspects of motherhood. The story follows Jo, a lifestyle influencer whose reality begins to unravel as she and her husband bring their newborn home from the hospital.
“There are strange parallels,” the filmmaker says over iced coffee and pain au chocolat (which goes tragically uneaten) at a cafe near New York City’s Bryant Park. “Not to overwork a metaphor, but it’s putting something into the world that’s going to have a life without you.”
