While we regularly report how the daytime broadcast shows perform in Women 18-49 and Women 25-54, it is Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 who matter most for news programs, particularly “NBC News Daily” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” as the latter two demographics set the advertising rates for those two shows.
During the week of May 6-10, 2024, the most recent week in which ratings data is available for “NBC News Daily” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” the former was the #1 afternoon news program on all of television among Adults 25-54, according to figures released by Nielsen Media Research.
With 236,000 viewers among Adults 25-54 tuning in, “NBC News Daily” beat “GMA3” by +14,000 (+6%) and was the only program up versus the prior year. The broadcast also ranked #1 among Adults 18-49, topping “GMA3” by +18,000 viewers.

With CBS in “accelerated development” on “The Gates,” which, if picked up to series, would become the network’s first new daytime soap opera since launching “The Bold and the Beautiful” in 1987, many in the entertainment industry have questioned what that means for “The Talk,” the daytime talk show that replaced the long-running drama series “As The World Turns,” which concluded its run after more than 54 years on the network in September 2010.
Currently in its 14th season, “The Talk” ranks as the third most watched daytime talk show, behind only ABC’s “The View” and syndicated talker “Live with Kelly and Mark.” Despite that, the show is currently down double digits among Total Viewers and the key Women 18-49 sales demographic, often ranking at the bottom half in both categories among all daytime broadcast shows and has remained CBS’ least-watched and lowest-rated daytime series overall since it premiered in October 2010.

NBC News anchor Kate Snow is stepping down from her role as anchor of the Sunday edition of “NBC Nightly News,” dedicating more focus toward her responsibilities as cohost of the popular afternoon show “NBC News Daily.”
Snow will continue to appear on “Today,” “NBC Nightly News” and other NBC programs as the network’s senior national correspondent. Next week on Sunday, Feb. 25 will be her final time anchoring the “Nightly News” broadcast.
Following her last show, the network plans to use rotating anchors before a new anchor moves into the position. Transition plans for the next anchor are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The award-winning journalist was announced as the official Sunday anchor for “Nightly News” in September 2015, serving in the role for nearly a decade.
In 2022, Snow was named a coanchor of “NBC News Daily,” which has quickly gained success for the network, becoming the number one afternoon news program.

NBC News’ Zinhle Essamuah has officially joined the “NBC News Daily” anchor team, and is leaning into the program’s goals to make news accessible in her first few months on the desk.
“[News] is not just for the elite, it should be for the person who doesn’t want to know the play-by-play of politics — it’s not just for the politicos — it’s for everyone,” Essamuah told TheWrap. “I’m big on making sure we’re keeping the show, which has already been this way, conversational and accessible for younger viewers and underrepresented communities, and that’s at the forefront of what I’m doing.”
Launched in September 2022, “NBC News Daily” airs on NBC broadcast stations daily and streams on NBC News Now. With Essamuah anchoring alongside veteran host Kate Snow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Et, the show balances breaking news and consumer stories by including regular...
