Just when you thought the Fyre Festival PR disaster couldn’t get any worse, it has: Just-released emails show organizers haggling over how many toilets they’ll need to provide for the outdoor festival they promoted as a luxury concert in paradise. Mic reports that nearly four weeks prior to festival meltdown, an email titled “Red Flag- Bathrooms/ Shower Shipping” circulated, calling attention to the “unexpectedly high costs…of shipping enough toilets and showers to the Bahamas to accommodate an anticipated 2,500 people on the island.” Around the same time, the festival’s caterer backed out of the deal. This series of events led one.

I’ve seen plenty of boxing knockouts in my lifetime but when someone scores a spot on perfect punch it always surprises me. But I think in the history of my watching boxing or even just boxing highlights I’ve never seen a boxer deliver a combination as on target and as lethal as this. David “Red Flag” Benavidez displayed what could only be described as “video game skills” during the 8th round of his fight with Rogelio Medina. Medina went flying out of the ring, and ultimately lost the fight, when Benavidez landed a brutal 7-punch combo. When you watch this

Last Week’S Review: Melissa McCarthy Is The Only Living Boy In New York
Here we are: The “Saturday Night Live” Season 42 finale. What a long, strange trip it’s been, huh? Hard to believe it was only last fall that we watched the Chicago Cubs dance up on the female cast members, or wondered if Dave Chappelle meant it when he asked us to give President Trump a chance. A lot of songs, impressions, and parodies-so-on-the-nose-they-hurt later, and another season of “SNL” is in the bag. Last night, we bade farewell to longtime cast members Vanessa Bayer and Bobby Moynihan — evidently, Kenan Thompson will stick around until someone remembers he doesn’t have to be there — and inducted host Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into the Five Timers’ Club. Let’s take a look at the finale!
Host: Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Johnson is a large, magical man, all muscles and teeth and charisma.

The “Fifty Shades Of Grey” franchise is showing that it doesn’t have much lasting power in the cinematic bedroom. While the first film topped $571 million worldwide, the follow-up, “Fifty Shades Darker,” could only manage $378 million. That’s still a nice number, but generally speaking, you don’t want your sequel to make nearly $200 million less than its predecessor, so Universal might be advised to upgrade the kink for the final entry in the series, “Fifty Shades Freed.”
As Screen Junkies reveals in their latest Honest Trailer, ‘Darker’ only has about ten minutes of sex, in an otherwise unsatisfying movie about a young woman who is stalked by a good half-dozen people, and a man who throws up so many red flags, no reasonable person should be dating him, even less allowing him to tie them up.

Alex Karpovsky knows his way around an ill-fated working road trip. Back in 2012, the indie multi-hyphenate pulled triple duty on his “Red Flag,” starring in a feature he also wrote and directed about a filmmaker taking his latest work on around the country on a makeshift tour that only did more (mostly amusing) harm than good. In Jeff Grace’s amiable “Folk Hero & Funny Guy,” Karpovsky is mining similar territory in a comedy elevated by pairing up the actor with rising star Wyatt Russell.
As childhood friends who have taken wildly divergent paths in life — Karpovsky’s Paul is a struggling standup comedian who just ended an engagement, Russell’s Jason is a mildly successful folk singer who is having a hell of a time traveling the country and jamming out, with groupies to spare — the pair have a lived-in, believable chemistry that hinges equally on their affection for and disappointment in each other.

Fans of “Girls” star Alex Karpovsky will likely feel comfortably familiar with some of the dynamics that play out in his latest starring role in Jeff Grace’s “Folk Hero & Funny Guy,” as the multi-hyphenate returns to the same wacky — and insightful! — road trip high jinks that marked his own feature, “Red Flag.” In that film, Karpovsky played a filmmaker who takes his latest feature on the road and encounters all kinds of strange characters, all of whom have lots to say about his creative output.

At a time when “Careless Whisper” is standard karaoke fodder right across China, it is difficult to imagine when the sound of it was utterly and fantastically strange. But strange it was in April 1985, when the British pop duo Wham! beat off Queen and the Rolling Stones to became the first Western pop act to perform in the Middle Kingdom.
Some 15,000 concert goers watched George Michael and bandmate Andrew Ridgely belt out hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” “Bad Boys” and “Careless Whisper” at the Workers’ Gymnasium in Beijing. Hair was bleached and feathered.

In life we are often reminded of 'that which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger'. If you happen to be going through troubled times, you often don't see a difficult experience as an opportunity for growth.
This realization doesn't occur until after the dust settles. That is usually when we gain true perspective.
I think the underlying theme of the first Episode is actually all about strength, but not just in the obvious way as suggested in the title; 'Stronger than Ever'.
I think we see a lot of strength in many of the ladies in this Episode, but let's dig a bit deeper.
The first few scenes in Episode 1 touch base with the ladies that have returned for another Season. We see Lisa Vanderpump and husband Ken Todd hosting a dinner at their restaurant 'Sur' in West Hollywood.

Gwen Stefani's divorce from her husband, Gavin Rossdale, was recently finalized, and it seems as though the singer is about to address the split in a major way. Popsugar hears that, according to a casting call, the singer's new music video is set to start shooting next week. It will be directed by Sophie Muller, who has previously worked with Gwen on the music videos for her recent singles "Used to Love You" and "Make Me Like You," and is described as "a very stylized music video / short . . . shot with a very 1950's melodrama sensibility." The production calls for three main characters; Trudy, a stylish mother; Troy, who is described as a good-looking philanderer; and an attractive young woman as Nanny. This would all be pretty innocuous if not for the alliteration of the character names, or reports that Gavin had been carrying on a years-long affair with the couple's nanny,...

“So what’s the deal with Evites?” Stand up Paul (Alex Karpovsky) is bombing — at life. Dumped by his fiancée, working a dead end temp job, and flogging the same tired stand up routine at open mics around town, he’s going nowhere until an old friend invites him on a ride. The old friend is Jason Black (Wyatt Russell) a folk musician with a cult following who brings Paul on tour as an opening act to get his “mojo” back. “Folk Hero & Funny Guy” writer/director Jeff Grace is an actor (“It’s a Disaster”) and stand-up comic, and mines his own experiences for his directorial debut in this appealing road trip flick. The film hews closely to the road movie format, and calls to mind films like “The Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best” and even Karpovsky’s own film “Red Flag,” which share themes about finding inspiration and...

“Misery.” “Red Flag.” “Me Without You.” Yep, this truly will be the divorce-pop album of your dreams. As anticipated since October, when Gwen Stefani dropped the breakup ballad “Used to Love You,” the No Doubt front woman has unofficially announced the title and track list of her first solo album since 2006’s The Sweet Escape. “This Is What the Truth Feels Like,” Stefani tweeted, along with a very emotional-sounding array of song titles. If it’s wrong to dance to a pop song about the recent dissolution of a 12-year marriage, then no one will be right until at least the end of 2016.

And that’s only about a quarter of the insanity.

Ok, we're not trying to start a fight here or anything, but we just think you're an idiot if you think Olivia (Kerry Washington) should be with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) on Scandal. Sorry, we're not sorry. Yes, we went there and we bought property. Etc. Etc. While we started off loving the fixer and the president's will-they-or-won't-they, so-hot-the-sun-is-jealous-of-their-chemistry relationship, we're finally admitting we're so over the saga of Olitz. Why? Let us count the reasons for you: 1. He's married. That's What We Like To Call A Red Flag. 2. He's kind of a jerk to her friends. And to her. By kind of, we...

So why is it that when Deacon gets super rage-y and slams doors and throws things, we’re all, “Aww, poor, wounded soul. He’s so sensitive. He just needs a hug.” But when Luke shows the slightest signs of a temper, we’re all, “Red flag! Red flag! Anger management issues!”? Ha. Sucks to be him. But seriously, can you blame Luke for being a little pissed off? In the beginning of the show, Rayna was basically acting like the man had cooties. I had the following things scribbled in my notes: “Omg, she hates him.” “For reals. She literally can’t stand the guy.” “She is obviously repulsed by his touch.”It started with their little photo shoot. (By the way, clever move to make it seem like an intimate moment, only to have the camera pull back and reveal it was a publicity shoot. There are no intimate moments in #TeamRuke.

Another week in Paradise, another week of enjoying the beautiful beaches, the perfect weather, the great activities that the Yucatan peninsula has to offer, and of course, the ups and downs of love and relationships. We begin this week seeing one of my favorite couples in Bachelor history—Graham and Michelle Money. These two serve as a crisp taco shell to wrap this episode, but we will get to that later. I know that Graham and Michelle may not count as a “couple” since they are not romantically involved (anymore), but they are such great friends that it’s fun...

The definition of the little indie film that finally could, Lola Bessis and Ruben Amar’s debut swam against Short Term 12 at the SXSW Narrative Comp and a little more than a year later, has finally found a bit from Under The Milky Way folks. Swim Little Fish Swim will receive a September theatrical release.
Gist: This is about a NYC couple whose lives are upended when a 19-year-old French artist (Lola Bessis) moves into their apartment.
Worth Noting: This actually premiered at the Rotterdam Film Fest before hitting Austin. It recently had a theatrical run in France this past month – in some of those MK2 theaters.
Do We Care?: I actually sat on the 2013 Narrative Comp SXSW jury on this one. I thought it was a well-intentioned, inoffensive, a cute little number with the fresh faced Bessis.

Best friends, show business, Megan Mullally being very creepy, and a very disrespected angel food cake. What more could you want in a movie? See video: Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally Pop Their Late Night Cherry with Seth Meyers Jess Weixler (“The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” “The Good Wife”) and Jennifer Prediger (“Red Flag,” “A Teacher”) make their writing and directorial debuts on “Trouble Dolls,” a dramedy in which they also star as co-dependent friends who flee to La to escape their existential and financial demons in New York. Unfortunately, there are plenty of more problems — and weird relatives — waiting for them.

Since marketing chief Laura Kim left Warner Independent Pictures after the studio shut down the specialty label, she has been consulting via her company Inside Job, running Oscar campaigns for Roadside Attractions and others, and releasing indie projects like "Restrepo" and through her and Paul Federbush's distribution arm, Red Flag. Now Participant Media has brought in the veteran marketing exec as Senior VP Film Marketing. She is replacing the recently departed team of Buffy Shutt, Kathy Jones and Jeff Sakson: In her new role at Participant, Kim will oversee marketing strategy, partnerships, and campaign development for Participant’s films and acquisitions, and serve as the key marketing executive for all distributors, promotional partners, filmmakers, talent and studios. She will report to Diane Weyerman, Evp Documentary Films, and Jonathan King, Evp Narrative Films. It makes sense, it's a perfect fit. Kim loves documentaries and independent film--has a...

"Pretty Little Liars" is back with "Who's in the Box?," which has the Liars wondering that exact thing -- if Alison is alive, who is in her grave?
Alison and 'A'
One of the first potential big moments of the episode is when Emily wonders if Alison is "A." Wouldn't that be interesting? Maybe Alison was somehow working with Mona, or maybe she took over when Mona got sent to Radley? It would certainly add some drama if Alison were "A" for a while and then began to be afraid of someone else working as "A"? Or found out some other "A" was trying to kill her and went on the run? There are a lot of intriguing possibilities there.
Anyway.
The Liars are determined to find out who is buried in Alison's grave, spurred by Hanna's idea that they should look into other girls in the area who went...

Marvel’s back in the game this week with the stand-alone sequel Thor: The Dark World, Chris Hemsworth’s first full adventure in a post-Avengers world. Just because it’s a superhero movie, though, doesn’t mean that it’s suitable for all ages. We’re continuing to experiment with something new in the When Can I Watch column, and that’s video. I’ve recorded Green Light and Red Flag discussions below. I’ve also bullet-pointed the highlights. Were you such a fan of the Ethan Hawke/Selena Gomez instant classic Getaway that you have to see it again, only you’d like to see it kind of modified? Have I got a treat for you. Sit down for Nacho Vigalondo‘s Open Windows, a puzzling thriller that replaces the car with a webcam, Hawke for Elijah Wood, and the disembodied voice with…another disembodied voice. Wood stars as the creepy but well-meaning fanboy/webmaster of a website dedicated to what looks like paparazzi shots of his favorite actress, Jill Godard (Sasha Grey). Without any prompting (Red Flag), a Disembodied Voice gives him a code for a secret webcam pointed on Jill. Thanks, buddy! You know the drill, though; if Wood doesn’t do what he says, Jill dies. After a lot of furious typing and nineties hacking technology streaming across the screen, because he’s a computer genius, the...

Early on this Cannes we had drinks with Paul Federbush and Laura Kim at the Grand; Ryan Werner joined us, fresh out of his long time stint at IFC Films. As you would expect, talk turned to distribution, an always exciting topic especially with them because they are at the forefront of what is happening in this constantly changing universe.
Aside from running their own distribution company, Red Flag Releasing, Laura continues to do publicity for indies and Paul is heading the international side of the Sundance Labs. He will now be speaking at Bam (Bogata Audiovisual Market) along with a new acquaintance whom I met at a wonderful dinner in Cannes, Donald Rabinovitch (any relation to our buddy Mark, I wonder?). Donald is the co-founder of QUADFlix a "game changing" new distribution model for high quality Indie features and full length documentaries based at the Quad Theater in New York, a theater that has been there in Greenwich Village for over 40 years now. Now, they have created a unique distribution/ exhibition business called QUADFlix Select, a "new and amazingly successful program". Donald's business partner, Elliott Kanbar has just written a new book on the subject of distribution as well, So you Finished your Film.....Now What.
So Donald writes me today from Dominican Republic to tell me he is off on the 7th to Bam to speak on the panel "The Reality of Film Distribution..... and Finding an Audience in North America” with Paul Federbush from Sundance. Bam is an initiative of Claudia Triana de Vargas, the Director of Proimagenes Colombia. Colombia is on the move as one of the hottest countries for filmmakers along with Chile, and soon-to-be-there-too, Panama. You can see Claudia discuss the current Colombian film initiatives during the Berlinale 2013 here: Claudia Triana de Vargas.
Donald sent me his talking points which coincidently includes mention of Adam Leipzig, formerly President of National Geographic Feature Films and now Publisher and Managing Editor at Cultural Weekly and Guiding Entrepreneurs & Creatives whom I will see July 26 and 27th --- while we indulge ourselves at the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival. We will have much to discuss and in the best place in the world to do it, so I just got over my envy.
Now back to the whole point of this name-dropping blog, here are Donald's talking points for the panel at the Bogota Audiovisual Market (Bam):
Subject: The Tough Job Of Marketing A Film
You're a talented filmmaker and you've just made an excellent film. That's for certain. But effectively and economically marketing the film is just as important and, Now, even more daunting than making the film. Adam Leipzig, a noted film producer, wrote the following in a recent column in The New York Times:
"The challenge isn't getting your movie made. All it takes is a personal time commitment to the process and access to a credit card, a digital video camera, and a computer loaded with editing software. The challenge is actually getting your movie seen." Leipzig also pointed out that of the 12,613 films submitted to this year's Sundance Film (2013) Festival, only 130 were selected and not more than 10 of these received significant distribution agreements for money. Following that, in April, we note that the Tribeca Film Festival, which has grown to be a 'hot market' in NYC received 3,150 submissions , granted 89 selections..... and had only 8 films finding distribution in 2013 for money.
Additionally, he then wrote something that we at the Quad have been saying over-and-over again, that "without the marketing push, awareness, and word-of-mouth generated by a theatrical release, it's not feasible for video chains [and digital platforms] to stock your picture."
But, alas, the question is, how best to market the film? This challenge can overwhelm even the savviest filmmaker. Often, what happens, is that a ton of money is spent, the wrong way, with very disappointing results.
One solution is to join the QUADflix Select Program. They will handle the entire job of marketing And releasing the film in North America. www.quadflixselect.com lists all the program features and the cost. The box office success is most determined by the reviews…especially the review from The New York Times. If the filmmakers do not think their film will receive good reviews, they should not book the QUADflix Select Program. QUADflix will make the same determination. They actually turn down 4 out of 5 films submitted. But some which have been accepted are Deadline, Bill W., One Day on Earth, Side by Side, Harvest of Empire, and Long Shot.
Here are the highlights of the program:
(1) A full one-week, Guaranteed run at the prestigious Quad Cinema in New York, from 1:00Pm to midnight-typically 5 screenings daily.
(2) 100% of the box office income, payable within 7 days after the completion of the run.
(3) The services of the Quad's professional film publicist to set up press screenings for the critics, write and mail press releases, and compile and distribute production notes. The goal is to get the film reviewed in most of the major New York media. To date, every QUADflix Select film has been reviewed by The New York Times.
(4) With the filmmaker's approval, they will encode, package, and submit the film to 11 major digital platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HuluPlus, YouTube, Vudu, Sony Entertainment, XBox, and Google Play.
(5) With the filmmaker's approval, they will submit the film to the major Cable VOD stations like Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, and Verizon.
(6) They will market DVDs of the film to the major retail chains such as Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, and Barnes & Noble, both in-store and online.
(7) They will market the film to the Institutional Market consisting of schools, colleges, universities, and libraries.
(8) They will include the film in the regular Quad ads in The New York Times and the Village Voice.
(9) They will qualify your documentary for consideration for an Oscar nomination.
(10) For a minimal cost, they will book the film nationally, in every major North American market.
The total cost for the entire package is $11,000.00. Remember this: since the filmmaker will be receiving 100% of the first week's box office income this cost will be reduced. Also, the cost of hiring a film publicist and encoding the film for the digital platforms would cost thousands of dollars on the open market. They accept credit cards and wire transfers.
Interested filmmakers can mail them a DVD screener (Ntsc only). Also, if the filmmaker includes an address, they will send an Information Kit, which includes comments from filmmakers, tips on self-distribution, past reviews, and much more.

Desiree and her "Bachelorette" contestants have jetted off to Madeira, an island off the coast of Portugal and Morocco. Looks beautiful.
It's also time to lop off one unlucky fella whose family Desiree will not meet. Who ya got? We would say that out of Brooks, Chris, Drew, Michael and Zakkkk that Michael is the one heading home. *kitty!*
Drew says, "[Madeira] is built for love." The "as am I" is left unsaid.
Catherine, Jackie and Lesley are there to help Desiree decide! Fun times. Sure, it's weird to invite the girls who were also vying for your last boyfriend's heart, but ... nah, we don't care. We heart Jackie, Catherine and Lesley!
They chat about the men, all of the good points for Dez on each guy, but she doesn't say anything too specific said, of course. Really, there's no reason for the girls to be there unless they get to...

Although the second season of HBO's "Girls" closed with Hannah (Lena Dunham) being swooped up into the comforting arms of her ex, Adam (Adam Driver), while Marnie (Allison Williams) reunited with Charlie (Christopher Abbott, who's since left the show), there was no happy ending to be had for embittered sad sack coffee shop manager Ray (Alex Karpovsky) in his relationship with college student Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet). For actor/filmmaker Karpovsky, on the other hands, things seem to only be looking up. Recently nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for best supporting actor in a comedy series for his role in "Girls," Karpovsky can soon be seen in the Coen brothers' Cannes Grand Prix-winning "Inside Llewyn Davis." He also wrote, directed and starred in a pair of his own films, "Rubberneck" and "Red Flag," which opened in theaters earlier this year. While in keeping true to its title, "Girls" is...

Desiree rolls up to her "Bachelorette" manse, looking lovely in an orange dress. She really is a tall drink of water, she stands eye to eye with Chris Harrison -- granted, she's wearing heels, but most girls still aren't as tall as him even in heels.
After freaking out over the house, Desiree is handed the keys to a sporty turquoise number. Fancy. We appreciate that Desiree didn't grow up with a ton of money, like some of the contestants on these shows, but hopefully the show doesn't beat that into the ground. It's not the only facet to Desiree, so let's not paint her as the little match girl every chance we get him, hmm?
I Need to Talk to Chris Harrison
