John Rhys-Davies stars as the curator. Davies played a major character in the Indiana Jones movies, in which this installment is loosely based.
In the museum, the word "Neolithic" is written on the blackboard. Indiana Jones writes the same word on the blackboard in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the movie that is spoofed by this episode.
The episode opens with an old timey studio opening, followed by a fade to a close-up on the mountain in the lizard's terrarium. This is the first of the episode's many Indy parodies: each of the Indiana Jones films begins with the Paramount opener fading into a similarly shaped mountain or other background.
When Shawn tells Gus "Tony Cox is my conscience" it's a reference to the Psych episode "The Polarizing Express" where Tony Cox actually plays Shawn's conscience.
The driving and map scene is another reference to Indiana Jones.
