This. This is the battle royale that broke me.

Let me rephrase that since that does sound kinda negative; this game has somehow made a game mode that I hate and made it so much fun.

Listen; if you've read any of me reviews before, you probably would see comments saying how bad Battle Royale is and how it's really ruining creativity in the new range of games... and to an extent, I fully believe this. Video games are meant to be played, to have the player invested and even maybe slightly challenged while doing it. And I also used to think video games need substance; they need plot, a story, a reason for me to keep going, a reason for killing all of these people. And still, I think a game with it is automatically better for it. But Spellbreak, a battle royale game with little to no lore and , when it comes down to it, didn't really have much substance either, had me hooked to its gameplay and gameplay alone. Before this, I've never played a battle royale that was solely based on mages, so I already liked the uniqueness to it. My favorite class was toxicologist with pyromancy secondary, using these both to my advantage. When I first started playing, it was only because my friend wanted a game he could cross play with me. I agreed and we started duos together, me sucking badly and him doing pretty good. It was an on and off endeavor until eventually he just didn't care anymore and would refuse to play with me. This was when I binged the game in a week, only because the servers were getting taken off and I only had a few more achievements I wanted to complete before it's inevitable end.

Logged in for around 26 hours, and finally completing the last 2 achievements I wanted to get (unlock a class afterglow and unlock 12 talents) , I decided to call it quits. Tha game was plenty fun, and while some of these players I met on this game were very unsupportive, there were a few that were awesome teammates. Can't say this really changed battle royales for me, mostly because it's still a hollow-feeling game that could have been heightened with story. I will say that this game definitely gave me more fun than any other battle royale, but it didn't break any barriers. Sad to see it go, but also relieved since I don't have another game to waste my life with.
