Wow that was pretty terrible!

Don't be fooled by these great reviews this movie is truly the bottom of the waste bin caliber of trash. Unless your idea of a good movie is seeing some dude do drugs and lay in bed with his junk hanging out or watching the same dude with his junk hanging out run around the Forrest while you hear pseudo intellectual narration for these horribly boring scenes. This movie screams of artsy fartsy nonsense! Even the gore is a waste. I kept expecting more to happen and it never did. Just more junk in your face and more inner dialogues that become complete eye rolling fodder. Like I said before this is bottom of the waste bin, and if the point of the movie was to make you feel like you were on Krokodil then I guess they succeeded, because I have never felt lower as a human being than watching this garbage!

Reality bites....hard

After reading numerous reviews and praise for RED KROKODIL, I decided to pick it up for myself. The first and most important thing I can say is that this film is NOT for the average horror fan. But lucky for me, I happen to be an extreme horror fan and was not caught too off guard. The subject matter that RED KROKODIL touches on is very real and even more tragic.

RED KROKODIL tells the story of a man alone in an incredibly small apartment, fighting a losing battle to Russia's street drug known as Krokodil. For those who don't know, Krokodil is a a powerful drug that makes heroine look like cough medicine. Known as Krokodil possibly for the ingredients used to make it, that make the skin around the injection site turn a green scaly color. Usually cut with gasoline or paint thinner, causing in horrible decay to flesh and sometimes resulting in amputation. It also greatly decreases the lifespan of the user from the first time injecting it.

After nuclear war wipes out the rest of humanity the man, who is never named, lives day to day dealing with agonizing pain, hallucinations and shortening life due to his addiction. Periodically escaping to his own little world of beauty while under the influence and visited by another man in a bunny mask that's actually a conjuring of his own mind. Soon his body starts to decay and he knows his end is nigh.

RED KROKODIL is a film that is the very darkness of a real life situation. The story is well told with there only the main three characters: the man, the apartment and the drug itself.

Wonderfully scored and equally beautifully shot, this film is a wake up call to the world. With out a doubt, an artful commentary piece depicting humanities self destructive behavior.

If you have a strong mind and stomach, then I highly recommend this film to fans of extreme horror that have more to them than just pure guts and gore. A movie that is sure to make your insides bleed, and you will thank yourself for enduring it.

Brave haunting and not for everyone
randocam-5326711 November 2020
I really don't know how I haven't heard nor seen Red Krokodil before but it's incredible. It's basically a one hander held by an incredibly brave performance by Brock Madson. An art house film about addiction, madness and despair with body horror thrown into the mix. Beautiful, disturbing and haunting, not for the faint of heart nor anyone uncomfortable with a ton of nudity, speaking of nudity earlier but this film demonstrates my point about that subject I made on Instagram earlier. Nudity can enrich a film if it has purpose and never does one get the feeling of exploration but rather a vulnerability of the suffering of the lead and only character of the film. Bravo to all involved. It's a brave film, hard to say like because the horror of watching a life succumbed to drug use is cheapened by saying "I liked it" but it has stayed with me for a day now and I watch so many films that doesn't happen often. Not for everyone but those who love experimental art house body horror films I cannot recommend this film enough. One can find it streaming now on Tubi. Again, bravo to @brock_madson and all involved. #ponderingwindow #arthouse #horror #drama #Notforthefaintofheart #brutal #raw #beauty #disturbing #film #critic

Requiem for a Nuclear War
DarkSpotOn17 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
You know i can go out of my way to rail how it barely has a plot, how the movie is kinda repetitive. Even with that in mind, the movie was amazing. This is taking Requiem for a Dream to the extremest level. The movie isn't that disturbing (gore or shock wise), how much it's dark and unpleasant. There's barely any gore, but the structure of the movie, is enough to make you care, and upset.

The movie shows off a man that's living during a Nuclear War in Russia, and is taking the hardest drug the Krokodil, Crocodile drug. We keep seeing hallucinations that this man is seeing, he saw for example this demonic creature, and like a child in the past, he decides to lay under the bed, or the fact that he constantly goes out of his way to love himself, and he is, he is loving himself when he was not a junkie. The movie has nothing to do with homosexuality, as some people see it as, it's about a man loving himself when he was clean.

See, the man constantly has hallucinations and dreams of himself being in the nature, free, or himself in the desert. That's the show off what the man wants. He wants to live in peace, nature, and reset everything. Even in the end, the man does decide to go out of his way to go outside and get help, he decides the drugs are enough, and then he looks out of his window to see the Nuclear Explosion, it's too late.

I never felt more uncomfortable in my life then when watching this movie. It's just a very powerful movie. The actor that plays the main character pulls it out amazingly. They pick a good looking man, to compare him now and in the past. The actor pulls it out of his best. I dont like Arthouse movies, most movies that try to screw with your brain fail to me. Red Krokodil fails under the same boat with Aftermath 3: Genesis and Subconscious Cruelty. These movies do screw with your brain, to the point you never could of imagined.

If your child isn't too upest and didnt learn the lession of not taking drugs after watching Requiem for a Dream, this movie sure will do the trick. I was going to say, that this movie could use a backstory to how did the man became like this, but then i realized, what backstory do you want, when he is living in a city that's in a nuclear wasteland, but maybe a backstory to what happened so he became this way could of improved this.

You can feel it
doriskaski3 January 2024
I really loved this movie... It's athmosphere, scenes, ways to tell how something feels and how something is. They have made the place look like just how it should and feel just how it would. You know?

The movie is talking with you all the time and it's something you choose to feel and understand. Something you see your own way.

It's a sad movie and also a happy one. It depents on how you see it and how you see the ending of this movie. Anyways, I appreciate the actor and grew who made this. It's a unique piece that left me just wondering. It has that touch on you so you can't stop watching.
