Love Beyond the Grave: A Look at Return of the Living Dead 3 (2011)
*** (out of 4)
Nice, 20-minute look at the making of RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD 3 features interviews with the film's director Brian Yunza as well as its lead star J. Trevor Edmond, the screenwriter John Penney and make-up artist Steve Johnson. Also on hand is Graham Henderson once again saying he wanted nothing to do with a sequel and we get Brian Peck and Kenny Myers talking about their original idea for a sequel that was turned down. From here we learn about how Yunza got involved in the project as well as how the cast was selected and even a few ideas about having James Karen and Don Calfa return to the series. One nice thing about this documentary is that we get quite a bit of behind-the-scenes footage that was shot on the actual set so we get to see some of the make-up creations being done as well as get to see Yunza directing. Even actor Edmond gets to tell a rather funny story about the nudity in the film and why he couldn't do it. Overall, if you're a fan of the film then you're going to enjoy hearing all these stories and there's no question that you really get a good idea of what went into making the film and why it became a love it or hate it cult movie.
