Dominion?
vsek13 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode's "written by" credit goes to Jane Maggs - the writer of three of the worst (and also worst rated) episodes of Picard thus far.

Overall, at least there are things to talk about but the stupid creeps into this season slowly while they drag this season out. Jack's abilities, for instance. Why wouldn't he tell anyone? That makes no sense. His mother with whom he is on good terms with is a doctor!

For these producers and writers, science in the 24th century is people in lab coats sticking needles in things, beakers, gas-powered cigarette lighters, tasers and bone saws. Jesus, this is imagery for people with the IQ of a parsnip! BAD WOMAN DOING BAD THINGS! At least she didn't have a swastika ob the wall.

With little setup, Jack is now romantically interested in the LaForge girl. Why? Because he has to say "nooo" when the bad guys try to kill her, of course. Why don't you set this up better so it doesn't come off as a cheap writing trick?

Beverly and Jean-Luc decide to execute a prisoner. A no-go in TNG. Let's hope this get's explored further or I'll lose all hope for these characters.

Lore's appearances at least made sense compared to the nostalgia machine last episode (dear god) and gave some nice dramatic scenes between Spiner and Burton. Oddly enough, they kept cutting away from that scene for some reason.

There were nice scenes in there and there was no Raffi, so far so good.

Plot Moving Episode but Still Better than Anything from Season 1 & 2
EntropyFashion30 March 2023
Plot Moving Episode but Still Better than Anything from Season 1 & 2. Better than Any episode of Discovery, hands down.

This may be damning the episode with faint praise but this rating is more relative to the past two weeks of 10 ratings. That's actually a compliment, because even compared to what has been the high point for the season and the series, the past few weeks, this is great storytelling.

Storytelling...that's a huge thing with best of Trek. Most of the best Trek episodes had that, "what happens next?"quality. We see that here.

This one is here to move our story forward and continues to expand on the character development at the same time. Let's be honest, most shows and movies do one or the other well but rarely both.

Acting is flawless, cgi is used to embellish scenes and not BE the scenes.

I hate having to wait another week...

Tense atmosphere and decent character moments
snoozejonc17 April 2023
The Titan crew comes face to face with Vadic.

The plot is the weakest aspect, as certain moments feel very contrived (Data/Lore) and some make little sense other than to bring certain individuals face to face.

There are though plenty of enjoyable dialogue exchanges between the likes of Data and Geordie, Seven and a guest character, and Picard and numerous. LeVar Burton's acting skills have either substantially improved with age or he never had this type of challenging material back in the TNG days.

Amanda Plummer plays unhinged baddies extremely well and she gets plenty of opportunity to do so in this one. Vadic's backstory is pretty good, especially for DS9 fans and Plummer adds a level of quality these moments of exposition.

The dark visuals and sound keep the atmosphere quite intense and foreboding throughout.

What the Frell is Jack Crusher?
XweAponX31 March 2023
After watching this brain bending episode, I'm wondering if Vadik is just as trapped as Picard and the Titan.

Someone or something is pulling strings from behind the curtain somewhere. Who is this face/head guy?

Interesting that this episode begins at the location of the former Monak Shipyards, the very place that Worf blew into atom sized chunks in order to ensure Jadzia's entry into Stovokor.

And another of Voyager's crew shows up.

Maybe this episode gives away too much about Vadik. It even causes us to have some kind of sympathy for the character. Maybe it spills the beans about "Jack Crusher", Vadik comes about 1 inch away from saying something very important about this. But stops. I think most of us have guessed by this time, of course he is different. We are all now scratching our heads and removing what little hair we have left to figure out why... and how.

There is also something about Geordie's kids, after I went back and watched "all good things" I figured out what that was. Nope, not telling. But watch the scene with Geordie and Picard in the vineyard, it's right there.

Some speculation is given here about the actual purpose of Picard's bones and Jack's blood. But that is all that it is, speculation. It can't be that simple.

And then there is this new variation of "Datalore".

This episode is nothing but the calm before a huge #%*&Storm.

It is a teaser, we are being dangled under a pendulum pit, as the blade attached gets nearer and nearer.

Who, what is Jack Crusher?

Loving it after hating it
kcrateau31 March 2023
I'm beginning to love this show in this season way more than I was in season two. I thought season two Was Way too preachy and whiny and the cast just didn't do it for me. But this third season, bringing back more old characters and tying in their respective personalities, back stories, continuation stories is all working for me. I was a huge STNG fan and this feels like the old crew coming back for one good, well storied hoorah as a bunch of grissled old vets of star fleet flexing their muscles and doing the hard jobs that need to be done. Give this series a chance and I hope you won't be disappointed.

Some of these reviewers clearly never watched DS9...
dsjgkpt3 April 2023
This was a fantastic, character-centric episode that brings tears to the eye of any true fan. Without giving too much away, I will say that some of the "fans" watching need to go back and watch DS9 for context. This is just a continuation of those plot points established in the 90s, not the "nutrek crap" you keep complaining about.

The episode is attempting to build momentum towards the finale. But its not a filler... it has some of the most dramatic character moments in all of Trek.

If you haven't watched, watch it. The large majority of us are clearly loving it. Then come back and give it a good review. Enjoy!

Lore of the Jungle
southdavid28 May 2023
Even this darker, more plot heavy episode of Picard manages to bring in yet another cameo appearance, in what is another good edition of this third run.

Now convinced that they are on their own, the crew of the Titan come up with a plan to try and capture the Shrike and her Captain. They are successful, but a discussion with Vadic (Amanda Plummer) about the reason for her venom towards The Federation convinces Picard (Patrick Stewart) that she's too committed to live. Data and Lore (Brent Spiner) battle for control of the body that they are stored in, and during Lore's time in charge, he releases the changelings from their forcefields and allows them to take control of the Titan.

A lot of dark fun to this episode as we delve into the motivations for everything that the Changelings have done so far. We learn how this particular variation of the species was arrived at, why their so dedicated on revenge and perhaps even what they plan to do with the remains of the original Jean-Luc. The Date/Lore stuff is fun too, as we see both brothers battle for control with La Forge's life on the line.

I feel like in each individual episode review I keep writing "no, really it's good" in a variety of different ways and each time more incredulous than the last as the record keeps up. We're getting to 'can it stick the landing' phase now though, which is another potential banana skin. We'll have to see.

Back to form...
bnevs1830 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally we get the true motivations behind the rebel changelings' actions. Vadek's problem was always she was too much of the one dimensional mustache twirling villan type; but here she's given a reason. Humanity's own ambition creates their own greatest dangers.

It used the "unwinnable situation" trope, thus painting themselves into a corner ever more relying on less believable paths forward to the resolution we all know is coming. Virtually all of starfleet is somehow compromised, and we are supposed to believe that they could pull this off with a base of 10 changelings while the entire Great Link with Dominion support could not.

But this is a larger problem with the entire season, this episode itself finally dispensed with alot of the fanservice to get back to what is best about SciFi, an exploration of the human spirit.

A nice reminder of DS9
Emrys_Lee31 March 2023
This is a nice episode titled 'Dominion' that brings about many deep thoughts regarding war and Federation, similar to DS9. DS9 was a different kind of Star Trek series, and I'm always touched by its deep thoughts on religion, war, crime persecution, race problems, and more. Even though it showed a darker side of the Federation, it also made it more realistic. The characters in the show always maintained their high ethical standards, even in the darkest of times. They had to make many difficult choices, but they always managed to give a decent answer. I hope this season follows suit. However, I am disappointed by the lack of clarity around Jack and Picard's mysterious circumstances. It seems like a cliche that has been used many times before in other stories. It remains to be seen how it will be handled.

Dominion
bobcobb3012 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The pace is a little better than what we got from some past episodes and seasons of the show as other users have pointed out, but I still find myself a little bit letdown with what we have gotten so far from the show.

The villains' behavior just never appears rational and they are forcing a father and son dynamic down the fans' throats that I don't know how many people are going to be truly invested in. This was a character that like Picard we did not really know much about so what is the point of trying to get us to care when this might be the last season? So many other stories to tell in that time.

Vindic = Rosa Krebb
davidffox-7292031 March 2023
Anyone else see the massive similarities between Vadic and Rosa Krebb? Both psychopaths out to kill James Bond/JLP. Other than that it's great to see a return to Star Trek form in this series after the major let down of series 1 and 2. I do find the conceit of pulling every available former ST character kicking and screaming into the plot both endearing and annoying. Marina Sirtis literally phoned it in, appearing only on video. Nonetheless, I'm enjoying the ride as it seems are most other reviewers on here. It'll be something else to see how they close this all out in a satisfying way. Right now, I'm hopeful for a blockbuster send off of JLP.

More Remember Berries
Badger121031 March 2023
This season is better than the previous 2 by far but it doesn't have much of a story so what it gives you is Remember Berries to tickle the nostalgia in your brain.

That said, I did like this episode more than the others, probably because Raffi wasn't in it but more likely, the "bad guys" reveal why they are doing what they are doing. The why does irritate me because they continue to make The Federation and the Star Trek franchise into a perversion of what it used to be and as such, the Federation is just as evil as everyone else. Thank you for showing our idealistic science fiction hope for a future is now nothing more than bleakness in the darkness of space just like the real world. But at least we have that nostalgia to tickle us.

Other than the reveal of the "bad guys", the show is filled with dumb decisions and contrived actions and of course, Remember Berries.

aaaand the stupid is back
sirfranzelot1 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A comicly moronic badie safed from a very stupid trap by pure luck, Forcefields that can't take punches, Picard and Crusher deciding to simply execute a prisoner (yes, the doctor!), the Federation torturing prisoners, the main badie delivering plot like a storyteller, the Titan getting taken over within seconds from enemies deliberately let in - these are just a few of the gems this episode contains.

The writing is so bad, It feels like they couldn't handle the good reviews and decided to bring Alex Kurtzman back. In the end i can only blame myself for bringing my hopes up, this definitelly is new Trek again.

90s Trek Vibes Continue
guerrio31 March 2023
Something that post-Voyager star trek movies/shows failed at was (mostly those TNG movies) was really integrating the DS9 and Voyager arcs with TNG, despite the fact that they all take place in the same universe. This show, further more with this episode, is really driving home that everything that happened in those shows mattered and shapes this era in trek. I'm all for this, I want more of it. I want a new trek show that takes place in this time where previous cast members can make a quick appearance as a higher rank. This season of Picard continues to show us that the trek universe can move forward from Nemisis in a meaningful, well thought out way.

This episode wasn't quite as action packed as previous, but serves its intended purposes very well I thought. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and these writers are nailing this season. I want more. More of this modern trek. I'm sad there are only a few more episodes left, but with the pace slowed down a bit for this episode, it's only going to better from here yet it's looking like.

Awesome episode continues the masterful last season
gscharroo3 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure what all the whining is about, i thought this episode was amazing. It's not bad writing for them to have underestimated a completely u known force that was Vadic's ship and crew. And it brought the darkness of DS9 to the epic crew of the enterprise which I am all here. You're appalled that doctor crusher and Picard were down to kill her? Seriously? They were 100% right to this isn't some pitiful foe lmao, dominion war absolutely crushed the federation and the entire alpha quadrant. Vadic was actively trying to kill their son, themselves, and everyone they loved and had already succeeding in killing several. There is no talking it out, even Picard has his lines. I loved it.

The sins of Rome
chrschiffer30 March 2023
Finally Star Trek is showing the true face of the so called federation. Which of course is the continuation of the UN which in turn is the facade of Rome, the Vatican.

Beautifully, the victims of 'the Federation' manage to subdue our common enemy, so, I indulge myself with the hope to see the Federation destroyed ones and for all.

Clearly such hopes are futile, MSM would never allow that to happen, or that Rome didn't come out as the supposed 'moral victor' even though they commited genocide.

'The Federation' gets away with everything, always, or so they think. I wonder why the Federation is showing its true face though, what will be the brainwash in the end?

Dominion
Prismark1031 March 2023
With Vadic under pressure to capture Jack Crusher. It is Picard that decides to spring a trap on Vadic.

It does mean enticing Vadic and her crew over to the Titan. The bait being Jack but will the switcheroo work?

Of course no one saw the danger of the new unstable robot on the ship. Data is wrestling with Lore for control over his body.

It did made me think that Picard's plan was a bit daft. Vadic is on the ship and if she and her cohorts cannot remain trapped, then the gambit was for nothing.

At least Vadic did give some of her backstory. These new breed of Dominions were indirectly created by Starfleet. It is another allegory on the War on Terror.

It did feel like a weaker episode but still a solid one. Jack seems to have powers to read minds.

There was another bit of fan service at the start of the episode, accompanied with the theme from Voyager.

Going backwards
cezarstefan-921583 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For all the good things ep 1-6 did to the series we have the 7th now.

We're back to lens flare (which they overused), very low/ peripheral illuminated sets, Beverly forgetting she shotgunned aliens in ep1, Picard going shooting is the only way to overcome the problem, suddenly 1 android goes and takes over everything despite the time gap and systems difference just for plot convenience and we have again the Jack mystery box inside another box (I expect to be poorly explained or not at all by the end of the season) and so on.

The highlight was Vadik actress performance which made me not give it a 6 ; in addition seeing the actor for Tuvok was nice (even if it was a changeling) and Geordi's emotional plea was good also.

Don't get me wrong: I appreciate they are trying to blend TNG with Voyager actors with a little of a DS9 direction sprinkled on top so far but we're somehow back to the new movies direction - I really hope this ain't going to be like that until the end of the season because so far I was enjoying it (pacing, direction, fx, actors , script etc).

Poorly Directed
cterry-731 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The acting was fine, but the direction/writing was poor. At one point, it looks like the bad guys are defeated, then all of a sudden, there's plenty more?? The action didn't seem to elevate the suspense, and the bad guys just overwhelmed the crew, then took over the bridge as if it were a three-legged race. Additionally, it seemed like Lore was wasted - all he does is flip a couple of switches to just create "chaos" - come on? Disappointing! Missed opportunity to see a really clever reintroduction of Lore and an intense internal battle for Lore/Data, or maybe even an interaction with B-4. Hopefully, the next few episodes will make up for it!

Typical writing degradation
smiledaydream1 April 2023
First season perfect, 2nd malingering, 3rd is a retirement party and sad writing. No, a genius would not mix two technologies hoping for a magic outcome, um four but that part vanishes. This is amateur. Please don't do this to future Star Trek. Star Trek is quality and intelligence. Don't lower the bar. Ok. This is where IMDB allows zero character reviews but not 300 characters. Why is the series so darkly lighted? I don't mind it, but it is obvious. Now listening to Vadic give a Scooby Doo speech which is what we call it when one character suddenly discloses all the plot points in a speech everyone is there to listen to. All action stops to listen to the Scooby speech. Common in cop shows after the last commercial.

The Minuses and the Pluses. Still Great.
Pimilli31 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a dip in quality, but still better than anything in the first two seasons. Look all the series had less than great eps, so it's not big deal. I'm still on board.

I like that Data is a mix of all these personalities. It gives him range of performance as an actor and it keeps it unpredictable.

Hey when a bunch of villains invade your ship. Just beam them into the cold vacuum of space or the heart of a dying star.

Am I getting old or has my patience with arch villains with endlessly droning speeches reached a saturation point?

I can't stand Vadic. I thought Raffi was a poor character and performance but I just can't take Vadic. Look at No Win Scenario a couple episodes ago when she sees the Titan: "blah blah blah...when the prey....blah blah....runs.....blah something about the hunter....opens it's jaws....and blah blah....runs into....blah." Nobody speaks like this. Please stop writing this character like this. I literally skip over everything she says now because only about 10% of it is relevant. The rest is posturing, ACTING, arch villainy moustache twirling, cartoon ....scooby doo..."meddling kids" stuff.

I've had it with Jack's visions and red eyes. GET ON WITH IT. What is it so we can get on with the story.

I don't get the love for season 3...
jp-2063 May 2023
... I certainly get the like for season three, it's a hell of a lot better than seasons one and two of Star Trek: Picard, but it's nowhere near the TNG I knew and love as a younger Gen-Xer.

Amanda Plummer is chewing the scenery to the point of needing forcefields to hold it up. The writing is not great; I keep hoping there's going to are a turn and we're going to find out we've slid not to the mirror universe but rather to the stupid universe, because there is some decision making here that just doesn't make sense. Sure, let's just hook a schizophrenic robot into all the systems on the ship. Let's lure all the baddies to the same ship. And for god sakes, who dumbed down the transporters to never, ever working. They're down or inhibited or just not working so much now there's no way in hell I'd step onto a transporter pad again.

With all the mentions of Admiral Janeway, Kate Mulgrew better make an appearance somewhere at some point even if it's just on a view screen.

I appreciate all the nods to the original TNG and other shows in the Star Trek universe. It's a shame this season, while better than the previous two, is barely hanging onto anything that resembles Star Trek.

Timekiller
djdickson-46-92414424 April 2023
This episode had a few nice moments, but it plays like more of a time-killer and a placeholder than a real plot-driver. Lots of talk going, if not nowhere, then not very far and in circles.

The best moments are the most predictable-- the reunions of long-lost comrades from TNG, and a couple of hat tips to Voyager and TOS. The plot, such as it is, is pretty standard issue stuff: rule-bending, a break in, a narrow escape, a hostage, a wordy confrontation with the Big Bad (or more precisely, the Head Assistant Big Bad). There is, to be fair, one biggish revelation about Starfleet that moves the story along, and some good special effects.

And can't the galaxy's biggest and more important holiday be something less lame than "Frontier Day"? Everyone talks about it like it's so awe-inspiring, but it just sounds like there's going to be a couple of cowboys shooting it out in a mock duel on the dusty streets of Tombstone. Yeah, I get it-- there almost certainly will be a big shoot-out on the big day, but still....

Another dystopia
christianschumann3 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Unfortunately, this seems to end the good run of this season. From the beginning I had the suspicion, that this might go again in a very dark direction, but they managed to hide and balance that in most of the previous episodes. But here we go again with a moraly bancrupt starfleet. Maybe it is only section 31 (but even that would be to mich for ne at this point. I lived section 31 in ds9, but the idea has been ruined over the years), but then we see Bevery and Picard agreeing on killing a prisoner. This is a perversion of TNG, its characters and what it stood for. Is their decission human and understandable? Yes, from todays perspective, and as father. But this series used to be about a future in which people are better, despite their mistakes. But this episode shows that the producers want to have a show set in a dark dystopia future. The vibes were there the whole time, but I was hoping that I was wrong.

Also, the whole plan with the force fields was stupid. And it is a bit strange that we see nothing of Riker and Troi.

Bit I liked the beginning with Tuvok, and also the scenes with Geordie and Lore/ Data.

And we were gaslighted
m1a2lt1 April 2023
No wonder they only released the first six episodes to reviewers. I actually thought that Star Trek, the show that shows a hopeful future for humanity had been resurrected. But I was wrong. This episode is trash and Kurtzman Trek is back. Starfleet is an immoral organization that tortures and is completely unethical and all that piece of leathery flesh named Picard that flollops in front of the camera can say is "I didn't know". I had such hope in the first six episodes but this finally convinced me that Star Trek, like everything else we held dear, has been completely deconstructed and is dead.
