Grand Teton National Park: Life On The Edge
jcolyer122916 April 2014
This documentary was shown on the Discovery Channel. I watched it as preparation for going to the Tetons for the 2017 total solar eclipse. Because there are no foothills these craggy peaks appear to rise from nowhere. It is a magical place. There are Jackson Lake, Jenny Lake and the Snake River. The Wyoming town of Jackson is the gateway to the park. Mountain men referred to valleys surrounded by mountains as "holes." Thus Jackson Hole, named after Davey Jackson, who trapped beaver there in the early 1800s. The highest peaks in the Tetons resemble a bosom. The word "Teton" derives from the French word for "teat," or "tit." So, the peak known as Grand Teton is the biggest teat while the smallest teat is called Nez Perce. Randy Wimberg did this film.
