FISH!
briezey27 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great episode! After 7 seasons, we finally got another literal "FISH!" moment of the episode, this time coming from Booth, which is how we figure out the murder weapon.

I think this is such a great episode because Parker is finally back. I think that they did a pretty good job exploring and thinking about how coming home to a new baby sister could have caused problems. I also loved that Booth told Bones at the diner that they all had to talk about the issues they were having because they are a family and they need to face things head on. I think this a just a good example of having open communication within a family. I also appreciated that while there was a little bit of confusion about what Parker was doing, there wasn't a ton of flat out miscommunication causing drama.

As for the actual case, I thought it was just a bit odd and kind of forgettable. I feel like the only thing I know about our victim is that he was shorter (5' 5") and that bothered him. Other than that, I felt like we didn't really get to know the victim and because of that, I had a hard time caring about the case.

There was also a B plot about Hodgins buying equipment over budget. This was a bit of a weird plot just because in the 7 seasons of this show, I can't ever remember hearing about Hodgins not sticking to his budget, and now all of a sudden he is buying a lot of equipment. I mean I know he is rich so maybe the writers were trying to play off the idea that he doesn't know how to budget because he has always had money, but it just felt like a really weird storyline that caused unnecessary tension between Cam and Hodgins.

Then, we had the even weirder ending where Hodgins threw a Founder's Day party in the lab using the equipment that Cam wanted him to get rid of because, for some reason, Hodgins was super salty that they weren't gonna have this party because of budget concerns. I just couldn't help but think how unsanitary this would be, like making food and drinks in equipment that they have also used to analyze worm guts and god knows what else. It reminds me of the season 1 Christmas episode where they are eating and drinking out of beakers, gross.

Overall, the case wasn't super interesting but we got to see Parker so I think this is a solid 8.

Best part: Bones saying "you can't stab someone with a fish, Booth"

Worst part: having to listen to them call their online video platform "wetube"

A Culture of Cruelty
Hitchcoc17 February 2023
A man of very small stature who has been bullied all his life is found dead in the woods. He has been stabbed but the nature of the weapon is quite confusing. His inability to deal with his shortcomings (bad pun, sorry) has led him to face off against his perceived adversaries. Unfortunately, one is a girl whose father is a sensei (she is a champion in martial arts). There is an insipid plot line about Hodgins using huge amounts of money to buy expensive lab equipment. Cam has to deal with it. I felt she should have taken about three of his toys and sent them back. The other plot is the return of Parker, who has his newly married other family confused over his actions..
