Federico Zampaglione is returning to the horror genre with dark supernatural thriller The Well, which commences a 4-week shoot from March 6th, in locations around Rome; the principle location being a haunted house in Sambuci.
The Well stars Lauren Lavera, fresh from her lead role in the box-office smash Terrifier 2, as Lisa Gray, a budding art restorer, who travels to a small Italian village to bring a medieval painting back to its former glory. Little does she know she is placing her life in danger from an evil curse and a monster born of myth and brutal pain.
Written by Zampaglione and Stefano Masi, the film’s principal producer, The Well, a gripping journey into the depths of evil, also stars Claudia Gerini, Giovanni Lombardo Radice, Linda Zampaglione, Jonathan Dylan King, Lorenzo Renzi, Taylor Zaudtke, Gianluigi Calvani and Yassine Fadel. Zampaglione commented:

I didn’t enjoy Terrifier 2 very much, but I was very impressed by the performance delivered by heroine Lauren Lavera, who came off as a star on the rise – and who seemed like such a badass in her confrontation with Art the Clown, I could see her becoming a major force in the action genre, if that’s a path she’s interested in taking. As she continues on her way to stardom, Lavera has signed on to star in a supernatural thriller called The Well – and our friends at Bloody Disgusting were able to dig up some exclusive details on the project.
Federico Zampaglione (Tulpa: Demon of Desire) will be directing The Well and has also written the screenplay with producer Stefano Masi. The film will see Lavera taking on the role of Lisa Gray, a budding art restorer, who travels to a small Italian village to...

Italian musician and film director Federico Zampaglione has released his latest movie Bianca, a stylishly violent short horror thriller online to watch for free. Shot in lockdown in Italy on his iPad in three days and starring his ten year old daughter Linda in the title role and his partner, actress Giglia Marra, the film was co-written by Zampaglione and Gianluigi Perrone.
Federico explains how Bianca, which centres on the tense unpredictable relationship between a girl and her mother at home, came about:
My daughter was getting a little bored being at home for so long with nothing entertaining to do, so I suggested to her and my girlfriend Giglia, that we do a little film – have some fun together and stay in a better mood. It’s very important right now to stay positive through the tough times we are going through. On top of this I had the...

I am incredibly pleased to announce that one of my favourite giallo of all time (and I say that without a hint of sarcasm or irony – just go back and read my reviews of the film to see that), Tulpa is Finally getting a UK release! High Fliers Films and Jinga Films have this week announced the long awaited UK DVD release of Federico Zampaglione’s sensational neo-giallo horror – which is set to hit UK stores on May 9th 2016.
Italian rock star Federico Zampaglione burst on to the genre scene in 2010 with psychological horror Shadow, which was released by IFC Midnight in North America and Wild Bunch in the UK. Determined to de-throne Dario Argento as the king of Italian horror, Zampaglione quickly followed up with Tulpa, a homage to the aformentioned Il Duce of giallo. The film sees Claudia Gerini (The Passion Of Christ) stars as a successful business...

Italian actress Claudia Gerini is best known to UK audiences for appearances in The Passion of the Christ, Penelope Cruz’s Don’t Move and as a memorable villain in the TV adaptation of Kate Mosse’s Labyrinth. Audiences will soon be able to see her in the mad Italian sex-thriller Tulpa, directed by her husband Federico Zampaglione, whose previous film was the neat little horror, Shadow. A throwback to the classic Italian giallo horror-thrillers of the 1960s and 70s, Tulpa concerns a beautiful banker, Lisa (Gerini) whose life becomes a nightmare when members of the sex club she frequents begin turning up dead.

Audiences at last summer's Film4 FrightFest in London will have no trouble remembering the world premiere of Federico Zampaglione's giallo homage, Tulpa. From the cheesy sex scenes to the poorly dubbed Italian cast, Tulpa proved a highlight of the weekend, albeit for all the wrong reasons. However, it seems to have served as something of a wake-up call. Following the film's disasterous debut, Zampaglione took Tulpa back into the editing room and has reportedly excised 20 minutes out of it. Judging from the film's new red band trailer, he has also re-dubbed the cast, which might go some way to easing the problems of the version we saw back in August. The re-edited version of the film apparently fared far better at Sitges, San Sebastian and...

Our own James Mudge reviewed Federico Zampaglione’s sexy horror thriller “Tulpa” when it was playing the festival circuit last year, but for those of you who missed it, have no fear, it’s (probably) coming to a theater near you. That is, if your local theater is prone to showing Dario Argento-inspired giallo-inclined genre films. (You can read James’ review of the film here if you’re so inclined.) Jinga Films currently has the movie scheduled for a 2013 release date, and you can check out what they have in store for you by viewing the Red Band trailer for the film below. Warning: it’s sexy. And bloody. Sexy-bloody, if you will. A powerful stock broker frequents Tulpa, a sex club owned by a mysterious Tibetan guru. Unshackled from the pressure of her job she will do anything to attain a higher consciousness, but when her lovers are murdered in shocking ways,...

Directed by Federico Zampaglione from a script he wrote with Giacomo Gensini, based on a story by veteran Italo-horror scribe Dardano Sacchetti, Tulpa stars Claudia Gerini as Lisa, a businesswoman who leads a secret night life of sexual exploration and experimentation, centered on the titular nightclub. When her lovers start getting brutally killed, she undertakes her own investigation to avoid exposing her carnal activities. Michele Placido and Nuit Arquint (Shadow’s memorable villaing Mortis) co-star; Leonardo Cruciano created the makeup FX, and actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta (whose credits range from The Day Of The Beast to The Rite) was one of the producers.
Tulpa, which we first reported on here, screened last year at London’s FrightFest in not-quite-completed form. “We knew what worked in the genre,” Zampaglione says, “but we were also aware of its shortcomings, and that is why we test-screened a rough cut of the film to an audience at Frightfest.

Tul-pa (from the Tibetan): meaning a magically produced illusion or creation. The concept of a being or object which is created through sheer discipline alone. It is a materialized thought that has taken physical form.
Italian rock star turned director Federico Zampaglione made a splash in 2009 when his first film Shadow played to a packed audience at London’s Frightfest. Returning some three years later and after teasing the film at Frightfest Glasgow earlier this year, Zampaglione unleashed Tulpa on an eager and willing audience. Word of mouth had built the film up to be one of the must-see films of Saturday, and I for one wasn’t disappointed.

Without a shadow (pardon the pun) of a doubt the one film I’m personally very excited to see is Tulpa, the brand new giallo from director Federico Zampagiione, which is a return to the true roots of the genre – as Federico said it himself in my recent interview - “… black gloves, stabbing, the atmosphere is completely different. Everything takes place in Rome, and you can tell it’s Rome. So the mood of the film is different – more sick – there are a lot of murders, eight in total, and they’re very bloody and there’s a lot of sex too”
