Warning: Spoilers
Peacock has been searching for its answer to Hulu's popular Only Murders in the Building and they keep coming close to finding it. The Resort was okay, this is more in the comedic vein and I think that is the right direction.

This episode ran far too long and considering future episodes are closer to a half hour than this I really do not get the decision.

Kaley Cuoco seems to gravitate toward roles like this just coming off The Flight Attendant, and we'll see if this series can get the buzz that that one did.

It needs to be better, but it was enticing enough to keep me hooked in for the full hour.

I like this series better than most!

You will not be disappointed but highly engaging.

So entertaining and I find the scenario is better than other series shows Acting a plus, set locations interesting as well.

A good series for marathon watchers.

I was continually surprised at the action in each episode.

The players' thoughts forecast will entertain you throughout.

Conversations were funny and interesting.

Casting well done.

"The revenge of the mind" is interesting as well.

Hoping you enjoy this series as much as I do.

Congratulations to Jason Bateman and all the producers, cast, and crew.

Entertaining
I thought I'd be turned off giving the topic and thought it was going to be like a documentary style series. I liked their idea of making the of the serial killer a podcast to attract an audience as a way to make money.

It has the right comedic tone and good acting.

So, after I watched the first show, Fortunately, the first season was perfect to binge watch. I then watched 2,3,4,5,6,7, 8 episodes and before I knew it, the end of season in one day. I can't wait until the second season.

They have the right characters playing their part. I would have made Kaley Cuoco look a bit younger for her role which quite honestly why I turned on the firsts how that attracted me to watch.

Not Bad But Seems Too Desperate
Thank God for Kaley- if not for her comedic timing, this would have been lost from the get-go.

Messina is trying, oh lord is he trying, but his timing is just, sort of, off.....he's not bad, but he did get better through the episode so there is hope.

The serial killer character is actually pretty good- he's actually likable and has a charm about him that's unmistakable. He plays the part well, seems to settle into the character with an air of confidence that's somewhat unsettling, that he's felt this psychopathy before.

The rest of the cast? Irritating, grating, obnoxious. Yes, we get that LA is filled with narcissistic megalomaniacs but every singe ancillary character? As an example, every single one of Ava's friends are having an affair? I get it could say something about Ava's character, but I don't feel like the writers are that deep. Or that there's people from out of state moving INTO California? Not likely. Pretty much anyone with the ability is fleeing in droves, so it's odd. The sister who can't seem to not be cloying and completely unhinged? Does every single character that's not the main characters have to be so pretentious and hateful? They're enough to derail this show.

Overall it's a 5; not great but not horrible, we'll give it another episode before making any decisions.

The Great American Artform

The Westside Ripper is a local serial killer targeting young women in LA.

Ava Bartlett (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan Bartlett (Chris Messina) are a married couple expecting their first child. They are struggling financially. He has lost his job as a tennis coach. She is struggling to sell real estate. It is putting stress on their marriage.

To get some plumbing done, Nathan does a deal with his charming plumber Matt (Tom Bateman) to give him tennis lessons as part payment.

At a bar with Matt one evening. Bartender Chloe Lake gets flirty with Nathan. She is later killed by the Westside Ripper.

Ava discovering the news of Chloe's murder. She suspects that Matt might be more than a charming plumber. Nathan wants to ring the police but she wants to do a podcast to help with their finances.

Based on a True Story is billed as a comedy thriller. It opens with a gruesome murder. It is also inspired a lot by Only Murders in the Building but with so far less comedy and less interesting characters.

I thought the first episode was hard going as it tried to establish the characters. Only British actor Tom Bateman stood out. I don't know whether he should had been pinpointed so early on as the likely murderer. At least it gathered momentum in the final 15 minutes which makes me want to see the next episode.
