Heart of Gold: Bonus
Cruising with Neil (2006)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Candid interview with Neil Young was shot while he was in the back seat of his car getting taken to the Prairie Wind premiere. Director Jonathan Demme is the one asking the questions with topics including the album itself, Neil's view of himself, working in Nashville and performing at the Ryman Auditorium. At just under ten-minutes there's not too much detail given here but I think fans of NEIL YOUNG: HEART OF GOLD should enjoy it as well as any fan of Young. The most interesting aspect is just hearing the legend talk about himself and how big he felt he was at 20 but today he sees himself just as a leaf in a river. It was also interesting hearing him talk about his love of Nashville and country music in general. Young also goes into great detail about doing shows at the Ryman and the different type of sound that it creates. In terms of visual or technical quality there's certainly nothing special about this featurette but fans of Young aren't coming for that. They'll be watching this for the man himself and there's no question that the topics are quite interesting as are the words spoken by Young. As usual he's easy to listen to and the stories make this worth sitting through.
