When John and Ted return from seeing Jurassic Park in a movie theater, they go to a video rental store. You can see a Dazed and Confused poster in the background. Dazed and Confused was released in theaters in September of 1993 and so would only be released on home video in 1994.
The student making John and Ted's fake IDs said he could have made Ted Bob Ross or an UGG boot. In 1993, when this story is set, UGG boots were virtually unknown outside of southern California. They didn't gain attention outside of that region until Team USA wore them at the 1994 Winter Olympics, and didn't become ubiquitous until 2003 when Oprah Winfrey named them one of her Favorite Things.
