Challengers star Mike Faist and Talk to Me breakout Sophie Wilde have a date with Chopard during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The luxury jeweler has selected the actors to receive the prestigious Trophée Chopard, an award doled out since 2001 at the invitation of the house’s Caroline Scheufele as a way to honor cinema’s rising stars. Faist and Wilde will receive the trophies during a glitzy dinner at Carlton Beach on May 17. As previously announced, godmother Demi Moore will take the stage and present the pair with the honors.
The winners are selected by an academy comprising previous winners as well as those who have served as godmothers and godfathers at the ceremony. Winners have included Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Diane Kruger, Niels Schneider, Florence Pugh, Jessie Buckley, Naomie Ackie and Daryl McCormack.
Faist can currently be seen on screen in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers opposite Zendaya and Josh O’Connor.

Sydney Sweeney is getting in the ring.
The breakout from, well, basically everything she’s done lately is set to play boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic directed by David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”). Insert your own joke here about being a knockout. The script for the untitled project was written by Mirrah Foulkes and Michôd.
Martin was the most successful female boxer of the 1990s. She signed with Don King and is the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Martin became welterweight champion — but that was about the end of the good things in her life. Christy was physically abused by husband Jim Martin, who was eventually convicted of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Christy Martin’s life is documented in “Untold,” the excellent series of documentaries by Chaplain and Maclain Way. Her episode is subtitled “Deal with the Devil,...

Exclusive: The in-demand Sydney Sweeney, coming off hit rom-com Anyone But You and horror pic Immaculate, is shifting gears again as she is set to portray trailblazing boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic which could be a knockout for buyers at the Cannes market where Black Bear will be launching.
Under the direction of Oz filmmaker David Michôd, known for visceral movies such as Animal Kingdom and The King, the currently untitled project will chart the true story of Martin’s rise to become America’s most well known female boxer in the 1990s — the “female Rocky” in the words of the film’s producers. A naturally gifted fighter, her life transformed in 1989 when she met her manager, and later husband, Jim Martin. Breaking boundaries, she became the first woman to sign with iconic promoter Don King, and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

After Netflix’s recent success with the live-action One Piece adaptation, the company seems to have acknowledged the potential of anime. Several Netflix original series have been released in the past few years, and the latest addition is Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf.
This no-nonsense action-packed series is very obviously targeted at fans of Baki, Spriggan, Kengan Ashura, and other original Netflix action anime. No one can deny the cult following these action anime have, and the company did not waste any time catering another series to this growing audience.

Sydney Sweeney’s latest foray into the superhero genre went down in infamy. She recently portrayed Julia Cornwall aka Spider-Woman in Ssu’s latest flop ‘Madame Web.’
Sweeney commented on her failed role with grace telling the inquiring press that she was only an actress in it and had nothing to do with what many considered to be a subpar story and an even worse idea.
Despite the negative reviews that the movie received, fans still wanted to see Sweeney in superhero roles, and she’s been fancast in plenty of upcoming productions. Now notable leaker and scooper MyTimeToShineHello stated on X have Sydney Sweeney has been cast as Black Cat in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’

Sydney Sweeney’s recent venture into superhero movies didn’t go as planned. She played Julia Cornwall, also known as Spider-Woman, in Ssu’s disappointing film ‘Madame Web.’ When asked about her role, Sweeney gracefully distanced herself from the criticism, stating she was just an actress and not responsible for the film’s poor reception and unpopular concept.
Even with the movie’s poor reviews, fans continue to support Sweeney’s potential in superhero roles, often suggesting her for various upcoming projects. Now, reputable leaker MyTimeToShineHello has announced on X that Sydney Sweeney has landed the role of Black Cat in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’

Elizabeth Taylor remains one of the most iconic actresses to ever grace the silver screen. And she knew it, coming out of a partial retirement to play the role of Pearl Slaghoople – the mother to Elizabeth Perkins’ Wilma and mother-in-law to John Goodman’s Fred – in 1994’s The Flintstones, an adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera production. But getting such prestige comes at a high cost. Like, a present every day she was on set-level of cost.
While Elizabeth Taylor isn’t in much of The Flintstones, her sheer stature put her in a position to demand just about anything she wanted, to which producer Bruce Cohen was happy to oblige. Kyle MacLachlan – who played Slate & Co.’s VP Cliff Vandercave in The Flintstones – remembered, “The cast was crazy. Bruce got Elizabeth Taylor to do that movie. It was amazing. She had to have a gift every day. A gift every day.

In every generation, there is a scream queen–an actress known for starring in horror films who comes to embody the genre landscape of her time. From Janet Leigh and her daughter Jamie Lee Curtis, Sarah Michelle Gellar to Maika Monroe, these women often originate a beloved character or star in a variety of cutting edge films, pushing the boundaries as cinema evolves.
The jury’s still out on which Gen Z actress will ascend to the scream queen throne, but Sydney Sweeney is making a strong case for her legacy. Though not exclusively known for horror, this versatile actress specializes in creating fearsome characters that break the mold set by her predecessors. With her wide eyes and angelic smile, Sweeney has a knack for luring us in with the perception of innocence only to shock us with a cutting remark or withering glare.

‘To me, that film was a building block,’ says Sydney Sweeney of the much-maligned comic book movie, Madame Web.
Considering she’s just starred in the film that will probably be remembered as 2024’s least loved movie, Sydney Sweeney seems to have deftly sidestepped any negativity emanating from Madame Web's dismal reception.
How so? Well, her breakout rom-com Anyone But You is still playing in cinemas, a pretty amazing feat considering that the film debuted at the tail-end of last year. That movie is proving to have real legs, and although Sweeney may have followed it with a supporting appearance in Sony’s maligned Spider-Man spin-off, she’s quickly following Madame Web with Immaculate, a fun take on the convent horror genre in which she plays a nun subjected to all kinds of peril throughout the film’s zippy runtime.

By turns tender and raucous, Pamela Adlon’s feature-length directorial debut, Babes, spins the uneasy, unwelcome, weirdly cool corporeal realities of pregnancy into heartfelt comic gold. The film often feels like a kindred spirit or companion piece to Gillian Robespierre’s Obvious Child, with star and co-writer Illana Glazer stepping into the Jenny Slate role as a woman whose arrested development brushes up against the realities of potential motherhood.
Babes stars Glazer as Eden, a yoga instructor who’s Thanksgiving plans are waylaid when her bestie, Dawn (Michelle Buteau), goes into labor with her second child. After a chance subway encounter and one-night stand with a charming actor (Stephan James), Eden finds herself pregnant. Woefully unprepared and estranged from her sole remaining parent (Oliver Platt), Eden leans on Dawn and her husband, Marty (Hasan Minhaj), to help her through the pregnancy and transition into single motherhood. Before he started filling up the nation's drug store book racks with tawdry tales of romance and suspense, Sidney Sheldon was one of Hollywood and Broadway's most prolific writers. He could write comedies, musicals, musical-comedies, mysteries, dramas, thrillers ... just about everything short of slasher flicks (though he probably would've knocked out one of those had they been a thing during his 1940s - '60s heyday). Clearly, he had an ear for what worked, and he wasn't just knocking out quickie programmers. He won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for the Cary Grant-Myrna Loy-Shirley Temple screwball hit "The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer," and earned a Best Musical Tony for the Gwen Verdon-led Broadway smash "Redhead."
And when television came calling, rather than turn up his nose as many of his established film and theater colleagues did during the medium's early days, he enthusiastically picked up the phone.

Actress Sydney Sweeney became a household name after she played the role of Cassie Howard in the HBO drama series Euphoria. That role helped her bag bigger opportunities in the industry, including the role of Julia Carpenter / Spider-Woman in 2024’s Madame Web, which is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu).
Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter in Madame Web
Sweeney’s character in Madame Web primarily exhibits superpowers like superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, and reflexes, but Sweeney believes her Euphoria character, Cassie Howard, would easily beat Julia Carpenter / Spider-Woman in a fight. Madame Web, which also features Dakota Johnson, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced had a terrible start as critics have annihilated the movie with negative reviews. The film is expected to be a major financial loss for the studios.

Finland’s Tekele has announced that a second season of Yle original youth series “The Short Fuse” is in the works.
Directed by Jani Ilomäki, also behind police series “Roba,” it will be written by Pilke Salo, Milla Tuokkola and Janne Vanhanen and shot over June-July 2024, eyeing a 2025 release on Yle Areena.
Starring are Pyry Rautiainen, spotted in Selma Vilhunen’s drama “Little Wing,” Minttu Halttula and Elsa Lagerstedt.
“International interest has been very wide,” said producer Julia Elomäki, singling out French-speaking territories.
“Once again, the show is handling harsh and timely themes with honesty. Given the excellent reception of the first season, it proves there is a point in making ambitious series for younger audiences.”
Directed by Petra Lumioksa, the show’s first outing gained a lot of traction on social media as well.
“Especially on TikTok,” noted Elomäki.
“I have always considered the young audience to be important.

Sydney Sweeney stars in Immaculate, an upcoming horror flick from Neon that riffs on the concept of the immaculate conception.
Last year saw an interesting debate bubble up around the lack of new movie stars, with a wide-ranging survey discovering that most movie punters would only consider shelling out for a cinema ticket if one of the ageing stars who emerged in the 1990s such as Julia Roberts or Brad Pitt were headlining.
‘Where are the stars of tomorrow?’ was the oft-heard lament echoed by lots of think-pieces and whilst it continues to be a good question, there might be an equally good answer in the form of Sydney Sweeney.
Anyone But You, the romantic comedy headlined by Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell has been quietly guzzling cash at the box office, enjoying a run that looks to have been extended due to the film’s popularity.

General Hospital fans who watched Eden McCoy take home the Emmy Dec. 15 for Outstanding Younger Performer got quite the jolt Monday when they tuned back into the ABC daytime sudser; McCoy was Mia as character Josslyn Jacks and someone else was appearing in her place.
Turns out it is actress Courtney Fulk filling in for McCoy — a surprise development since Gh didn’t give viewers a heads up that a temporary change was in the works.
But rest assured, followers of Port Charles: a spokesperson for the show says McCoy is on a brief sabbatical and will return at the beginning of the new year.
McCoy’s absence may have something to do with the passing of her mother in early November; Michael Fairman reported that “since Gh is said to tape around six weeks ahead of air, McCoy’s departure would make sense during that time frame.”

Scripted by Andrew Lobel, Immaculate sees Sweeney taking on the role of Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains some spoilers for Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” — and the factual events on which it is based.]
“Napoleon” star Vanessa Kirby — cast in Ridley Scott’s sprawling, wild historical epic as the divine Joséphine Bonaparte, former wife of Napoleon (Joaquin Phoenix), former Empress of France, one-time Queen of Italy, survivor of the Reign of Terror, and that’s just the start — is ready for the big questions.
But, first, jet lag. The Oscar nominee is currently in Australia filming Ron Howard’s “Eden”. How about starting with something light? Like, when exactly did Kirby realize that Scott’s grand epic was also going to be, well, kind of funny? Pretty much from the start.
“I know that the intention was [for it to be], because of the extremity of the world and the intensity of that life of his, how dangerous it was, and how much risk was involved in all of it,” Kirby said. “I think, naturally,...
