Performed by the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Peter Breiner, and recorded at BBC Television Centre, On Air will stream a performance of 'The Firebird' by Igor Stravinsky from 7pm GMT on November 17 2022. A ballet and orchestral concert work first performed at the Opéra de Paris on 25 June 1910, 'The Firebird' catapulted Igor Stravinsky to international fame. Although designed as a work for the stage, with specific passages accompanying characters and action, the music has achieved equal, if not greater recognition, as a concert piece. Talking about the show, Ian Maclay - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - explains "It was a wonderful opportunity to record the three great Stravinsky ballets and to have them presented in such an exciting and imaginative way. Working with On Air was a fantastic chance for us to continue on our journey to make orchestral music accessible for all, placing it at the heart of contemporary society."
