Cassandra's apartment was actually a suite at the Hyatt Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There was a 65-foot yacht in the backyard of the hotel, but by decorating and filming strategically, you couldn't tell.
The Fire House bar scene was filmed at a place called The Polo Club in Pembroke Park, located in the space formerly occupied by Casey's Nickelodeon, a storied late-night venue that closed in 2004.
The "Drunk Tank" holding cell sounds like it has heavy duty steel doors, but the whole set is actually made of wood. Sound effects are used to make the viewer believe they are made of steel.
The hoop that Brooke comes down from the sky on during the big performance scene was originally going to be shaped like an anchor, but due to counter weight balance issues, stunt coordinator Chick Bernhard had to come up something else. He had this new hoop developed and built by Cirque Du Soleil Orlando. The developers also came down to the set to rig and test it to make sure Amelia would be safe.
The scene where Callie and Jim slow dance was filmed at the Harbor Beach Marriott in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It took around four hours to film a scene that only lasted two or three minutes.
The synchronized swimming group is played by a professional water show group called The Dolphinettes of Miami which has nationally-ranked swimmers.
The mermaid tail worn by Cassandra Hudson was made by a specialty shop in Los Angeles, California. It was constructed out of silicone and weighed around 75 pounds. It took three costumers to get the stunt girl into it.
