30 years on from its release, we take a look back at Three Men And A Baby and the French film that inspired it...
In 1987, a comedy directed by Mr Spock with Magnum Pi, Sam from Cheers and the star of Police Academy was the highest grossing film at the Us box office. For context, it made almost as much money as Lethal Weapon, Predator and Robocop in that year combined. So where are all of its diehard fans?
Among the most successful films of the 1980s, Leonard Nimoy’s Three Men And A Baby stands out as a bit of an anomaly. Despite being hugely popular in its time, it seems to have faded out of the public consciousness without leaving much of a mark, and you’d be hard pushed to find someone who would name it as one of their favourite films. In fact, it...

The Signal Hill wrongful death movie reunites Jamie Foxx with Ray director Taylor Hackford.
Jamie Foxx will play wrongfully convicted Black Panther Party leader Elmer 'Geronimo' Pratt in the upcoming Johnnie Cochran wrongful death legal film Signal Hill. The film stars Anthony Mackie and will be directed by Taylor Hackford, who directed himself and Foxx into Oscars for the film Ray. The screenplay was written by David MacMillan. Signal Hill plans to go into production in January.
Johnny Cochran is best known as the lawyer who couldn’t fit gloves on O.J. Simpson. The legal strategy acquitted the former football star of the 1995 murder trial of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. In 1981, Cochran worked on the wrongful death case of college American football star Ron Settles. Signal Hill will centre on Cochran’s efforts to get to the bottom of the case.

The Wandering Soap OperaThis year at the Locarno Festival I am looking for specific images, moments, techniques, qualities or scenes from films across the 70th edition's selection that grabbed me and have lingered past and beyond the next movie seen, whose characters, story and images have already begun to overwrite those that came just before.***The camera’s brief tracking movements in Jacques Tourneur's Appointment in Honduras (1953). This filmmaker, to whom Locarno is devoting an extensive retrospective, is not a formalist like some of his more acclaimed contemporaries like John Ford, Otto Preminger, or Hitchcock, whose overt and idiosyncratic use of the camera makes far more obvious each director’s perspective on their stories. But that doesn't mean Tourneur didn't have formal flourishes, and none are so lyrically charged as the subtle and surprising times in his films when there’s a cut and suddenly the camera is floating...

Blackfish, The Act Of Killing - we celebrate the great documentaries distributed by the UK's Dogwoof...
Did you know that around 20 percent of the films released in the UK are documentaries? It’s a surprisingly large figure. I think the reason behind it might be that ‘documentary’ is considered to be a genre in and of itself. “And the Academy Award for best documentary feature goes to…”. They're all lumped into the same bracket. Also, they're relatively cheap to make and can be assembled independently by a team of only a few people. Success at the box office is often down on the priorities list for creators wanting to spread a message, tell a story or get a point across and, when they only need to recoup that small amount to be considered successful, documentary cinema becomes fertile ground for ambitions to grow in.

Stephen Moyer relished those moments when his character on Fox’s “Shots Fired” didn’t always keep his hands to himself. Moyer, who played the morally questionable Lieutenant Breeland, told TheWrap, “My character walks the line of, ‘is he racist, or is he somebody who’s protecting his kids?’ You never quite know where he is or where he stands, and so he ends up in this very ambiguous place.” One scene that was tough but also creatively fulfilling for Moyer to play was the one in which Breeland confronts an African-American football player. With the advent of the internet, we might be forgiven for thinking that outlandish claims and tall tales would be chased away by the might of Google or a website like Snopes, where myth-busting facts are but a search term or click away. Instead, the web has allowed creepy stories and urban legends to travel more quickly than ever, as they’re copied and pasted in forums, emails and social media posts - hence the oft-used term 'creepypasta', used to describe these strange,...

Red State may be marketed directly at fans of Jay & Silent Bob but it's his most un-Kevin Smith film to date
Kevin Smith is recounting the time he told Harvey Weinstein to shut the fuck up. "I open the curtain at the back and I see Harvey outside, talking," recalls Smith. It was the premiere of his new movie Red State at the Sundance festival and Weinstein, his former boss and mentor, had promised to attend. But instead he was checking the American football scores. "He's talking about the Jets. Loud as fuck. The opening of my movie, first seven minutes. Old Kev just would have gone, 'Harvey, shh, movie's on.' But it disgusted me so much. It doesn't get much more heartbreaking. So I fuckin' lost it, and I went out and said, 'Hey. Shut the fuck up!' And he looked at me with fuckin' hate in his eyes.
